We are really thrilled with Savannah Commons as a new home for our mother. She has been there two months now and says that she really likes it as well. They have multiple common areas where they gather for a variety of activities. Although Mom hasn't gotten into the routine of checking the monthly calendar and marking down the things she wants to do, or keeping up with the regularly scheduled activities yet, that will come with time. The restaurant is nice and has table service, although Mom has not been utilizing the dining facility as much as she is supposed to be doing. She has used the transportation services multiple times and seems to have no trouble doing so. The range of activities offered is really good and except to make purchases and go to appointments off of the property, there is no reason to leave the building. In the wintertime and during inclimate weather this is very important to us that she be able to still go and do things and mingle with others on a regular basis. The interaction between the residents and the staff always seems to be very positive. The only reason I gave it four stars for Care Services is because this is an "Independent Living Facility" and as such, the level of personal care is minimal, although they do monitor the residents comings and goings, and try to be certain to speak to or visually observe them at least once every day so they be aware of them on an ongoing basis. I visitied 6 different facilities before selecting this one, and I knew at my first visit that it would take a lot for any other residence to top this as my first choice.

Was very impressed with the facility and all of the amenities provided. Crystal greeted everyone we encountered and was greeted in turn. Residents told me how much they liked being there and that it was the best place in Savannah. Definitely in consideration for us.

My Mom, who is 80, has had an apartment in SC's independent living facility for almost a year. It was difficult at first, coming from her own home, but she has made many new friends and she enjoys the activities, including bingo and movies. To summarize, it has been wonderful for her and now she loves it. I've found the staff to be very, very concerned for the residents. They make the place feel very intimate. Some residents spend more time in their apartments; others get out and about and interact more, taking advantage of more of the activities and so on. So it depends on the person. The Executive Director's philosophy is to help people stay “independent” in as many areas of their lives for as long as possible. So if someone needs an extra service, they try to arrange to provide that service or have it brought in so the person can remain in the independent living facility as long as possible. This has worked very well for Mom, who needs some cognitive help but is really sharp in many areas and is in tip-top shape physically. Mom continues to desire her independence, of course, and it would be a shame to move her into a more assisted environment overall because of one or two issues. I appreciate SC's sensitivity to these issues. The design of the facility naturally sends residents off the elevator in front of the front desk whenever they go to meals, many of the activities, etc. This puts the staff's eyes on them multiple times each day, and the staff can be alert for signs of physical problems and memory/dementia issues and so on, very naturally. As the Executive Director said to me, “If someone has lived here for awhile, and they come to the first floor for dinner and turn right instead of left, that tells us something.” The staff go to continuing education to learn about these issues and what to look for. The staff all know my mom by name and I have come to know many of them as well just through our visits. Mom loves this place. It has a slightly gentile/Old South feel to it, in a very caring way. This Northerner really appreciates that! I can tell the staff love the residents and would do anything possible to help them, from the heart, if you know what I mean. The grounds may not be the most beautiful; there’s not as much natural walking space, which has always been important to my Mom. But as she says, “I can walk in the halls and in the parking lot. What matters to me are the people.” Amen, Mom.

I'm very pleased with the independent living here so far. The staff are great and, while I don't need any of the care provided, the activities are nice as well. This place also ended up being less expensive than when I owned my home! What really drew me to this community was that during my tour the staff were very upfront and friendly, and didn't act like salespeople during the tour. And while I was on the tour the residents themselves were very friendly, I had more than a few of them come up and say hello.

Sweet and concise but an older building and I was touring while the majority of the residents were in their rooms. It is the most economical of the choices and I loved the scheduled morning check ins. A little more peace of mind.

We were very pleased with the community. They took very good care of my relative that was there. Everything was first class. The attention, room, and space were all good. Due to the pandemic the only problem I had was the visitation schedule.

Our Mom was a resident of Savannah Commons for almost 5 years. While there, she experienced the Independent living in the main building, the assisted living building "The Springs" and the secured building "The Arbors". She considered Savannah Commons as her home due to the sense of community fostered by all the staff-nursing-aides-housekeeping, maintenance and most of all by the residents who became her close friends. [Removed], director of Nursing and [Removed], Executive Director were sensitive to the needs of our Mom as she declined. They were compassionate, and professional in explaining to our family the decline they were seeing and gently guided our family through these changes as well as recommending the necessary moves to the various levels of care. Savannah Commons provided autonomy, dignity, understanding and support to our Mom as she changed. I would recommend to families in search of a loving, supportive, professional environment for their love ones to tour this excellent facility. Our Mom passed away peacefully surrounded by the caring staff and family on January 6, 2018

We are blessed to have my 75 year old mother living at Savannah Commons. I can't say enough about how pleased we are with Savannah Commons. The buildings are clean, well-maintained, and are equipped to house a range of care levels-from independent, to assisted and memory.care. The staff at Savannah Commons (from the receptionists to the management, to their nurses, janitorial, and dining staff.) are friendly, helpful and attentive to the residents' needs, care, and safety. From the minute you walk in, you know that the staff truly cares about their residents. This responsive climate is directly fostered by the Commons manager, Joyce Crowder, whose heart is 110% into providing the best environment and care for her residents. Savannah Commons has gone above and beyond to make sure that my mother is well taken care of. I would recommend this community to anyone looking for a retirement place. Thank you, so much, Savannah Commons, for your attention to my mom and her needs, and giving us such a peace of mind!!

My mother-in-law who is 92 is currently suffering from dementia. My wife and I looked at Savannah Square and had placed a deposit on an apartment in their independent living section which we thought was absolutely beautiful, but after seeing my mother-in-law's condition when I went up to New Jersey to bring her down here we realized very quickly that she was currently unable to be truly independent. We found the assisted living facility at Savannah Square not up to the five star rating that I would certainly give their independent living facility. The assisted living building at Savannah Commons was more what my wife and I thought the assisted living facility at Savannah Square should have been. To be honest, it was a difficult decision, but I think we have done the appropriate thing for my wife's mother. My email address is listed below in my name field should anyone wish to contact me.

The staff is so lovely! We always see the same pleasant faces. The building is CLEAN - and its smells clean. The dining room is cheery and the food is varied and cooked well (albeit maybe not exactly like Grammas). There is a lot of effort to keep residents active. Medical and pharmacy needs are Ssslllooowww... (Although routine care is excellent.) But if you need anything of an urgent nature (UTI) then carry them to urgent care. Otherwise you are at the mercy of labs that take days to run.

Memory care is limited with the services they can provide. Most residents there are high functioning or have family members who visit every day. I had to move my mom as her health declined because their solution was to increase her bill because she needed a higher level of care. They also had a difficult time keeping staff.

We've been happy overall with Thrive. It took a while to understand all the procedures, rules, and how to get things done but now that we know those things we're able to work within the system well. They could use an onboarding guide or something to tell the family and resident how to check out meds, get laundry done, get seen by resident doctor/CRNP, etc. Staff and food are great and my Mom is very happy with both. Meals have two mains choices and the food has always been very good. Lots of activities during the week but that goes down to just a few on weekends and holidays. Facility is nicely appointed, and pleasant. Apartments are also nice, large baths and closet. It's not a big place which is a plus - easy to navigate. Price is competitive for the service level.

Thrive has recently changed their administrative leadership so hopefully things will begin to change for the better. They definitely need to improve on the food and beverage and the administration. The person running the billing office is terrible. The left hand doesn't always know what the right hand is doing. Many things are frustrating, but my mom seems very happy. The large $$ increase has made us have to come up with a plan B for continuing care; her resources are not endless, and therefore, if she needs memory care, we will have to move her. My mom is on the welcoming committee and often takes people to lunch/tour who are looking at Thrive as a potential home! The front facing people are wonderful and treat my mom like family. She's very happy and takes part in many of the activities and has made a nice core group of friends. Thrive has got to be one of the most expensive places in Bergen County though.

Everything has been good except the food. They have new culinary staff, so hopefully that will improve. We especially like the enclosed courtyard where our loved one can enjoy being outdoors. So far we have always seen staff available there to let her out.
