Activities are great. My dad doesn't like bingo or "entertainers clowning around." They have weekly Catholic Mass, rosary, and communion during the week that he really appreciates. It's not a Catholic...

Mom had a nice respite stay at this older community. The community was well taken care of. She did not have her own restroom. She was at a different care level than most of the other residents. She loved the food and they took good care of her while she was there.

I had interviewed 11 Assisted Living Centers from Augusta to Gainesville, NC to Blairsville and Ellijay. I received information about each facility except the Oaks at Ellijay. I thought this was unusual. The initial interview with the marketing person was positive, the location and price were within the parameters I set for my decision for my sister's next home. Oftentimes the communication was not optimum. I had to hunt employees down once I entered the facility. Rarely was there someone at the front entrance to assist me as a family member.

My mom says the food is just ok. I still have to get food for her. Also, the quoted price is not what I am paying. I am paying about $[removed] a month more. Thus far, no one can explain why though I have asked. At this point, I feel another move would be too stressful for my mother, so I am trying to get these issues resolved. On a positive note, the staff who provide care are attentive, kind and patient.

Communication with staff is not what I hoped it would be. No particular staff person is assigned to a resident so I don't have a person to communicate with regarding my family member who resides there.

They do not give the care that you pay for. If the resident has disabilities , family MUST oversee!! My mother is legally blind and hard of hearing plus wheelchair bound I have to be there EVERYDAY. Today she had no water.

The facility is dated and falling apart. Most of the staff are ok but some don't seem to care about the quality of care given to the residents. Some staff care about their job and genuinely care for the residents. Other staff members should not be in charge of feral cats, let alone seniors. The facility is very poorly run. Do not recommend to anyone.

I visited my friend there and the staff was very cordial and very inviting. However, certain times of the day apparently is stressful for staff. They are rude and very short on the phone when initiating a talk with a resident. Z----- needs a coarse in people skills when you are responsible for the care of lived ones.

The med tech and nurse techs are great! They keep me up-to-date and abreast of all of anything that impacts my Mother. They take special care with my Mom which I really appreciate. They treat her very well. I would like to see more organized activities to engage the residents, especially those who are in Assisted Living. We were told in the beginning that they have activities throughout the day, but I am not sure if that is still the case. The quality of food is fair, but the quantity leaves my Mom hungry.

Some staff don't have experience with residents that exhibit cognitive impairment behaviors. The respite/temporary apartment has an unpleasant odor. Don't expect healthy homemade meals. Had to remind staff to deliver meal to resident. Staff and residents are nice and friendly. One staff told a resident she couldn't eat at the men's table even though it is 1st come, 1st serve.

Visit facilities in the good better and best range. Don't eliminate a facility simply on cost and don't be afraid to ask hard questions. I would recommend the Oaks but again ask questions of any facility director of issues that are of concern to you and your family; I.e safety, medical accommodations; activities,

I picked this community because I saw good reviews. They made all kind of promises. A pharmaceutical company put five bottles of boost in your refrigerator. I did not order them. My wife did not drink them. They were still there when I left, and the people at the at the assisted-living would not help me a bit.

They say they have craft and other activities like field trips, but I'm not sure she has had a single one. The majority of their patients have severe dementia and difficulty communicating. Our grandmother has dementia, but can still care for herself and communicate well. She just forgets what she talked about. There is a separate, assisted living type area in the front of the building and the people within that area had much nicer furnishings. I'm sure much much nicer food, but they were also able to speak and talk and remember. That area is more expensive and I'm sure it's all out-of-pocket there. The price is great, but the staff and management seem to careless. We asked them to add a light bulb to the fixture in her room by adding a working bulb, it had not been taken care of the last time I was there (about 2 to 3 months or so). It still hasn't been repaired despite speaking with upper management. Her room has been very dull and kind of depressing. You are also responsible for bringing your own furniture that includes the bed and dressers any side tables any furniture that comes in there and you're responsible for bringing your own bed linens and towels. There was a cabinet hanging off of its hinge in her bathroom that I'm not sure has been repaired yet. We discussed that concern multiple times with no follow up. It was just above the toilet, so if you were not careful when you stood up or sat down the corner of the cabinet door would hit you in the head. It literally just goes on and on. I gave in and took her glasses to her and they are gone. The facility has no idea where they are. BUT! We are about to get out of there! Amen! I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

The Oaks at Ellijay is a nice looking facility and the staff are friendly. The meals are adequate. However, I don't feel that my mom always gets the assistance/attention that she needs. She is deaf, but most don't take the time to adequately communicate with her which makes her more confused and irritable. My mom is stubborn about asking for help and I think that's taken advantage of, at times. My biggest complaint is the inability to reach anyone after 4:30 or on the weekends. I've had serious concerns about mom, which seem to come up after hours and I'm unable to reach anyone. You can't even leave a message. I have complained to management about it, without any improvement. I have experienced similar situations with nursing rehab facilities, so it may be an industry wide problem.

The Oaks at Conyers is a very clean community, but the levels of care and meals could be improved. According to our loved one the quality of the meals is not that good and they can be flavorless. Being on the memory are side the activities can be hard but we do feel the staff members are trying their best to keep the residents involved in things. With these improvements, we would recommend Oaks at Conyers to other families.
