Our family was able to do an in person tour because it was before the pandemic, and the tour was just okay. The community is a little older and what we did not like about it, was the communal bathrooms. We wanted our loved one to have their private bathroom.

Determine your needs.

When searching for assisted-living one must decide what their needs are. This facility meets our needs very well. We were not looking for trips abroad or nightclubs in the facility or a swimming pool. Our needs are met at a 4 of possible 5.

Good only if your relative can care for themself. Father had stroke, uti, went to hospital and rehab. Talked to director because of his condition. Was assured they went to 4 levels of care and then hospice. Paid to hold his room. He returned over month later, at level 2 care. Numerous occasions found him in room, door closed, no lights, t.v, not even fluids beside him. Room very hot, he would try to take off clothes. Returned to hospital, : uti, dehydration. Got call from head medical, he could not return to morningside. They were not qualified to care for him. After cat scan, discovered he had another stroke morningside failed to recognize. When we moved him, several personal items were gone from his room. Director never contacted me. Some employees were great, others quite unpleasant when dealing with them. They need to know their limitations

Ready to go!

We never got to move our loved one in. The people were really nice and helpful. Candy made sure that all questions were answered. The whole family was happy about this move. Then when it was the day of move in the community said that they did not have her for a move-in. Also they went up in price dramatically. We just could not afford it at that time.

They were very nice but they just said they couldn't handle the wound bac. It was a very nice facility, smaller, which is what I was looking for, and daddy had a friend who had been there before and he asked me to look at it. They just flat out told me they couldn't handle the wound bac but it was a very nice facility, clean, very pretty, looked like an older antebellum home.

Hard to reach, but good intentions...

First, I'd like to point out that this review is being done because SeniorAdvisor.com sent me a note saying it would be my last chance to post. My mother has only been there a month. At my initial tour and follow-up, everyone was friendly and seemed helpful, but since the very day I signed the paperwork, I cannot get anyone on the phone anymore. I've left messages and texts and get no call backs. Sometimes when I call, it just rings and rings and rings. This is distressing. I visit at least once a week, so any issues so far have been handled then. When I've visited, Mom's hair looked unclean and her "depends" diaper was long overdue to be changed. They also have been doing improvements to the building, and one day the chemical smell from some glue they were using was so strong I became nauseous. I could not believe the residents had to deal with it all day. I'm pretty disappointed so far, but I'm also willing to give it a chance (3 to 4 months) to take input and make corrections.

We looked at the memory care here. It's very tight, and the people are just sitting in their chairs in the hallway. They have alarms so if they try to get up at all the little alarm goes off, so someone can make sure they are sitting down. It just doesn't feel good to me, but they all seem to be about the same way.

Ok, but disappointed

The caregivers staff are what make this place special, however; they are grossly unstaffed which impacts the overall quality of care. The leadership team lacks experience and communication with family members unless you request information or updates. The place has a very strong oder which could be managed but again, the lack of appropriate staffing levels makes this difficult. There is a lot they say they will do but it does not happen unless you persist which is annoying when you're already dealing with the stress of having to place a loved one into a facility. Having then to worry they they receive the appropriate level of care makes the stress even more challenging. It's sad that our country has accepted that it is okay to not give the best possible care to our elderly because corporations only care about profits and not people. I hope my journey in life does not require me to live in one of these facilities. It makes me depressed every time I visit my family member.

Our family's experience has been a difficult one.

The food is lacking according to my mother. The hairstylist is unreliable. The apartment is cute, good size. The staff, outside of [name removed], are great. I believe the activities are plentiful. It's a clean facility. Staff needs training on how to change out Dexcom device. Our family's experience has been a difficult one.

Has room for improvement.

Staff was friendly and helpful, but the place was sorely understaffed. My husband was left alone in his room for hours at a time with no one checking on him. At one point he fell onto the floor and laid there for over an hour before someone realized what had happened. Food was mediocre and it took a very long time to get served because caretaking staff also served the food and there were not enough of them to get meals in a timely manner. There seemed to be adequate activities offered. It's just that my husband did not participate. My husband was there at The Oaks in respite care. I expected him to get more attention than was offered. We ended up having to hire our own sitters to keep him safe and avoid falls.

A few upgrades needed

I liked the place because it was close to where I live. However, the place needs upgrading, medical grade beds, better food, create a system to wash clothes so they dont get lost or given to another patient. Actual activities and not just ones posted on a calendar. Work on staffing, they were consistently changing staff. Making it difficult to build a relationship to make sure my loved one received good care. Good thing he was always clean and in clothes.
