Village Place Retirement is ok. My dad seems happy there. I've been disappointed by them concerning something that was promised, but I was misinformed. The care is ok. The facility is clean. It doesn't ever smell when I walk in. Overall this facility is pretty good.

Nice place, overall

My loved one was only here a brief time before increased care needs necessitated a move, but our experience here was a good one! They've got a great staff here, everyone was very friendly. The rooms seemed a little on the smaller side for the price, but it wasn't a deal breaker.

Everything is great about this community! The price is high, but all of the options in the area were around the exact same price, so it's comprable. My loved one hasn't complained about the food. It's not gourmet, but there's nothing wrong with it. They do lots of special things too - they go out to lunch, go get slushies, take trips to get pie... There was an issue with some healthcare related tests, where they really just didn't happen. We will give them the benefit of the doubt though, and just hope it doesn't happen again. Our choice came down to two options, and the courtyard and outdoor area really set this one apart from the other!

We toured this location when we were looking into options for our loved one. We were very pleased with everything here! The staff were friendly and professional, and it looked like the care and activities they provided would be very food! One problem we noticed was that although the common areas and front entrance were nice, the hallways and rooms looked a bit shabbier, and could probably use recarpeting.

I toured this senior living community first 4 years ago for my Mother in law..Not a good fit for her.. In the mean time we started looking for my mom, It is a perfect fit as she has some loss of memory, she is in a room that she can see people passing and she enjoys that.. Staff is very nice..

They were a little more institutional than the one we chose. If you had a severe stroke then it would be a good situation, because they were very well supervised. It seemed more medical. If you do need that level of care then this would be a good location.

We were greeted at the door by Gigi who ushered us into the private dining room where we were served a plentiful and tasty meal. She addressed all of our questions. The place looked clean and uncrowded. We met other staff members and were greeted warmly. None of the residents approached us and we did not visit with any of them. We were given a tour of the ALF and Memory Care Center and then she drove us to a Villa which was empty. There is a waiting list for these and the smaller units. They were spacious, clean and well maintained. The landscaping was kept up. There are no physical fitness facilities on campus but a bus takes residents to local facilities. There was a screened porch overlooking natural wetlands she said are protected so the place will remain isolated into the future. The Village is 5 years old and there are only 89 residents. There are no plans to expand. There is a 30 day trial to decide if someone wants to live there. There is an intense interview/orientation program upon entering the Village. There are Village planned activities daily and the residents also plan group activities. Family and friends are welcome to visit and dine with residents at no charge. There is a w/d in each villa and full kitchen. Everything is monitored and residents wear alert buttons. Anyone can leave with a 30 day notice, otherwise there is a one year lease that can be broken. The village is located just outside of Bunnell but is within Palm Coast city limits on a through street to much shopping and restaurants. We liked it and will include it as one of the facilities to show my parents.

We visited and it was really, really good. I don't have anything negative to say about them. The only thing is that they are too close to where I'm living to be perfectly honest. The last thing I need is my mother right around the corner so it was just the location that I didn't like. I'm not sure what their costs were but I think they were in line with others.

Good Activities and Food

My mother hasn't been there long. She was there for about a day and a half and had to go to the hospital and then she was back for another day and had to go to the hospital agian. Hopefully she'll be able to go back and stay. It's a pretty good value. It's clean and there's stuff for people to do. In the morning they get everybody out of thier rooms and get together and socialize. My mom won't get out on her own but once she's out there she's fine. They have therapy type stuff and take them shopping if they're up for it. She had a couple of meals there and she likes the food.

Overall would recommend

I think they promise a lot & don't always deliver on that promise. Very friendly sometimes too much/fake. Meals look good, eating times are a bit early (4pm for dinner). What activities they have are nice but I don't consider a movie or a dish of ice cream an activity. I think something more low key but moving your body would be an activity. And value was fine but they just raised the rates. I'm not sure what I expected, but because I'm a nurse I think I anticipated a little more. The communication isn't always great but maybe no place is any different. Mom can't really tell me since she's in memory care. This has been a very difficult & overwhelming few months & transition. Again, not sure what I expected or anticipated but I just have felt a little lost . It is very helpful knowing the girls there are very kind & sweet.

Grand Villa Boynton Beach review

We chose Grand Villa of Boynton Beach because of the price and location. The room sizes here are ample. The food here was institutional. I think others should know that I do not think the residents are given enough fluids, the fluids they are given were high sugar such as apple and cranberry juice which creates yeast. She needed to be changed more often because this lead to yeast infections. Other than that, I really liked the socialization and the activities they provided. I think they were a little short staffed in the evenings. I would suggest that a family supplement fluids, something with electrolytes and they can have that on staff to provide to your loved one.

My Experences

I would look at other places. One of the problems is that they have respite and my mom took and went there instead of looking at other places, she might have liked it much better. The clout that was built, was that it was right down the street. One example is that my mom was having problems with diarrhea and that they can only give medicine by the doctor's. I had to deliver the the medicine, and the nurse was playing a game and told my mom that she would be down in a little bit to open the bottle of medicine.
