Covid did create a lot of issues for a lot of people and families, with that being said our loved one moved into the community in January so it was still hot and heavy with restrictions. We were not able to see our loved ones apartment, but we were able to see a model which looked all good and stuff. So we had to go off a floor plan, and we told the community exactly how and where the furniture needed to be, but the apartment was flipped so the furniture did not work out. Also if our loved one needed help moving in we had to use their moving company that was "covid approved" which just meant the were covid trained with protocols which did not make sense to us. If we wanted to come visit we had to be deemed care givers, but they did not take the time to deem us care givers. Our loved one at one point had not be given a shower for 52 days, the director was very dismissive with all of our concerns. Also we had issues with the billing department, when the bills started coming we were getting random charges for things we did not understand. When we brought it to the billing departments attention they had no idea what those charges even were, and later we found out that the billing department had to go back into training because everything was so disorganized.

Air Quality: Not a smoke free building. Do not live here if you have allergy or sensitive to the quality of air. The vents do not work well. I have to agree with some of the reviews regarding the horrible times there are smoke in the air and apartments. Living in the building for nearly 4 -1/2 years, I suspect there are gaps in the wall concrete constructions and pipes beside the doorways and baloneys. The smoking hot air rises to all the floors, elevators, baloneys and into windows. Managers: I find [Removed] was not bad compared to the present manager 2017 [Removed]. She wants to get more rent money by rejecting your renewal lease and pushing you out if you do not give. She has little compassion and actually smiles for some reason, if she do not like you; when you tell her your son died. And quite a few older people died in the building and I have not heard a single news of concern or acknowledgment by her. And, I knew a disabled tenant who lived in a 1 bedroom and den was forced to move to a one bedroom smaller apt. by [Removed]. I mainly see her wearing a skirt and in heels busy talking to the constructed workers. Appearances of the building: Hallways are recently renovated and have new hallway chairs and decors, but not the inside apartments. The Inside have the 60's formida and wood trim cabinets; and lights with stucco walls/ ceilings. You only see a nice apt for renting guests here. Cleaniliness: The rest of the staff such as the maintenance, cleaning, and renting agent do their job well. They are friendly and respectful and cover up to make up for the manager's lack of character and poor customer - client skill. I am leaving soon and I cannot say it was a good experience to give any star rating.

It was a horrible experience. I wouldn't recommend anyone put your loved one in this community. We went to move my loved one out of the community, and there were bugs coming out of my loved one's bags. The staff was supposed to come in and checked on my loved one. My loved one was in the same clothes from five days before when we saw her last. Then they were soiled for a long time as well. They have recently been purchased by another group. They are cutting the staff's hours, instead of keeping them and improving the inside. My loved one had a chair that was taken out by a staff member. The residents had to give the staff favors to get things done.

The Peaks is presented as a facility in which professionals care for loved ones who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Nothing is farther from the truth. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER HERE IF THEY SUFFER FROM DEMENTIA!! After a professional from The Peaks visited the previous memory care facility where [name removed] was living and interviewed him and the staff that took care of him, our loved one was accepted with smiles and warmth and we happily moved him into The Peaks. Within 2 months time, he was asked to leave. The reason still remains a mystery as no staff member witnessed the event. A resident’s husband who said he saw [name removed] manhandle another resident made the claim. The story is unclear and conflicting as we were told the manhandled person was walking with “Bill” and then we were told that this person was in a wheelchair. The evening the event occurred, 911 were called and we were told after the fact by a caregiver, that [name removed] scared at least 4 firefighters. [Name removed] is an 83-year-old man who weighs 180lbs and must use a walker to stand. Oh… and he has Alzheimer’s disease. The caregiver made this determination because she observed the firefighters backing away when [name removed] became agitated. Her advise to them was to not back away and that they must stand their ground against him. The firefighters were exhibiting professional behavior regarding an agitated demented elderly man allowing him to calm down, whereas she did not have the training to understand this Best practice. He was then made to be taken to the ER for evaluation and was discharged several hours later. On return, he was more confused than ever. No investigation, no process, no discussion with us, the doctor from The Peaks determined he had to leave. The doctor has never met [name removed]. The Executive Director stated that she has a tenuous working relationship with this doctor. We heard from a caregiver that other residents and resident’s families are afraid of [name removed]. HIPPA violation? We observed the exact opposite response from residents and families alike. We were unable to move [name removed] immediately (we moved him within the week) and so his 83 year old wife who lives over 2 hours away was made to leave her dog home alone for two days and travel to The Peaks in order to babysit [name removed] during the day because The Peaks are understaffed. She was also made to sleep on a cot in [name removed]'s room overnight in a locked memory care floor amongst other residents. Liability? On the day of the move, the staff involved was conspicuously absent. We are very happy to be rid of this facility. We have learned that all the bells and whistles and prettiness can’t cover lack of training, patience and good care. Perhaps the ambiance is more for the family than the patient? Be sure to ask about the A La Carte charges. That’s a whole other ball of wax. Oh, one last thing… it wasn’t until [name removed] was firmly ensconced at The Peaks that we were informed that you have to provide your own toilet paper. Classy.

If you are not a smoker don’t rent here!! We were on the 2nd floor and smelled cigarette smoke in every room even though we don’t smoke. Electric was $180.00 per month we never paid that much even during the summer. We have even rented a 3 bedroom house before and didn’t pay that much. Be careful maintenance will enter the apt. If don’t feel like answering the door. They walked in on us making us feel unsafe in our apartment. Afraid if they were entering when no one was home.

This place in my opinion sucks, They have high turnover there and dont seem to care about anything but the money. My dad lived there for 2 years. Ive tried to complain and was told by a staff member there that they didnt care. The goodman group is the management company that rins this place.I tried to go to the ceo [name removed] of the goodman group and he never returned my calls. We spent over 150k there.. I have taken my dad to another place now and he is very happy. I would given it 0 stars if there was an option too.

This facility has one worker who was worth talking to, and the rest are only interested in making money from the residents. These people made promises to help my parents for all their medical needs, their livable requirements from day to day, and great meals. there was also supposed to be assistance helping my transition into memory care and help get the state aid required for it since we as a family didn't have the resources. All those promises were broken. Now they are trying to sue my parents for monies they say are owed, but after a state investigation of medication mismanagement, after false [Removed] allegations against my father, now they want more. Leave him in peace. Write it off!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY HERE!!

Do not place your loved one here!!!! The management staff has a very rapid turnover. The staff that is in place now all seem very nice and concerned about their residents but don’t let that fool you. They do not care in the least. There are a few caregivers that have been there for a long time that are very sweet and caring but they do not make up for the unethical management staff. Our mother has been in the Memory Care here for over 5 years. Their advertising states “Alzheimer’s specialists work hand-in-hand with families, loved ones, and the Inn at the Amethyst staff to ensure that residents receive the comprehensive treatment they need. Memory care is different from the care provided in assisted living, requiring a team that is professionally trained in memory care.” I always wondered what kind of training the staff receives in dementia. Talking loudly to residents who are not deaf but have dementia (!) does not help. The staff treats the residents like they are either stupid or deaf….it’s shocking and unbelievable to me. I do not think they get very little, if ANY , training on Alzheimer’s. To state that they have a team that is professionally trained is ludicrous. There are many ongoing issues with this facility mainly the understaffing. There have been days when there was only ONE caregiver to take care of all the memory care residents. When you then wonder why your loved one keeps getting bedsores, it is probably because there is not enough staff to change them every 2 hours (as is there policy) and they are sitting in urine soaked diapers for 8 or more hours! That is called neglect! Sometimes an hour goes by before I see any one around. There is very little supervision of the residents. I could go on and on and on especially about the food. It has improved but either is served cold or scalding hot. Where is ALL that training regarding dementia patients?? Would you like your parent to be given scalding hot soup when they have Alzheimer’s and don’t realize what is hot or cold?? Very thoughtless, careless and downright dangerous. We have moved my mom out to a place where there are more staff and more care. The bottom line is: Do not let the first impression fool you……this facility is not one I would recommend to anyone, even my worst enemy.[removed] AVOID THIS PLACE!

I'd like to voice my most honest opinion about this facility on 9270 W Union Hills Rd... I cry nearly every single night b/c of the care, or lack of care that my dear elderly mother is receiving... The website states 24 hours care. However, it is a bold face lie.. The facility is 90% understaffed. They're supposed to "check" on my mother every two hours but that doesn't happen. She's a Dementia patient and when she can't fall asleep at night, the staff allows her to wander the halls alllllllllllllll night and their response is, "We can't make her lie down and as long as she's not falling, dehydrated or vitals are fine" she's ok... Really??? It's ok to allow an elderly health challenged resident wander the halls alllllllll night? When she doesn't feel like eating, they just let her go hungry. Oftentimes when I check her bed linen, they're not clean. They has been times where I had to seek out a staff, to clean pooped stained shoes that were in her closet where her clothes hang. Her window seal was filled w/so much dust that it made me sick!!! There was a time when I came to visit her and she was coming out of another (male) resident looking confused. Yet this is supposed to be 24 hour care!!!! There was another time a male resident was sitting in her room in a recliner chair! How devastating is that??? If I call to check on my mother, no one follow up on calls or return calls.. At night, they will not answer any calls... I would never, ever, refer ANYONE to this place!

This community is not able to provide care for severe Alzheimer patients. They are not caring for my father very well. We have to really be demanding and fight for the right care for our father. We have spoken with the director and he has made some changes in the staff. So we are giving the community 30 days to see if things improve. At this time I would not recommend this community.

As a family member of a former resident who lived in their Pearl Garden memory care floor, we had a terrible experience. The nurse rarely comes out of the little office up there, the staff unfriendly toward family members. We were very hands-on for our moms care and we often found her left in the original chair she was placed in early morning at noon. Multiple times per week we found her in soiled clothing - so told us no regular visits to the bathroom. [removed] I cried! Our mom required 100% assistance so could not walk alone, eat alone, etc.; yet the staff chose to blame our mom for "somehow" doing these things to herself. The community is beautiful - they have earned awards for activities - but really? Should a community be allowed any award if they can not deliver residents their most basics of needs?? When we would reach out to the nurses, they literally became angry rather than anxious to help or intervene with training of caregivers. We took mom home - it was no easy task but at home was treated with dignity and compassion.

When you visit Amethyst Arbors, it looks amazing. The place is clean and bright. Don't be fooled though. They will promise you the world and NEVER deliver. My mom was here less than a year. The communication from the staff to me was horrendous. There were numerous problems, including getting her medications given AFTER a meal - which didn't happen. One of the caregivers lied to me about her eating and then getting her meds. It is very disappointing when you think you are getting proper care and are paying for it, and then finding out that you are NOT getting the minimum that you are paying for and that your loved one is being neglected. The worst part of this was that I contacted not only the Assisted Living Director, but also the Executive Director with my concerns and they were ignored by both of them. Please don't subject your loved ones to this abuse by a facility. There are a few good people working here, but if you have any concerns, I guarantee that they will NOT be fixed by upper management. Spend your money elsewhere!!!!

My mother has been at Amethyst Arbors for 5 months. The food is pretty good, a nice variety - and overall the staff is very friendly. My concerns are that they have a hard time retaining a nurse and care givers so my mother's medication was constantly wrong. This is SO important. The current nursing staff there is very disorganized. The place is clean for the most part - the entry way of course is very clean, but the building is old and showing signs of wear. Maintenance is lacking - it is not kept up very well. Communication seems to be another downfall of this place. No one seems to know what another person is doing - become VERY frustrating. People say things are taken care of, but then they are not, then you tell someone else, and it's not - communication is severely lacking. As far as retirement homes goes, I would say this one rates better than most - but if you place a loved one there just a couple of things to note: The sale people are your best friend until you move in - then try to get something done.....stay on top of the staff as far as medication goes. The grounds are nice, but watch out for the scorpions (they have a problem there) and don't worry about the food. The chef and dining hall is the nicest I have seen. One more thing - no smoking signs everywhere, yet the Executive Director and other staff members openly smoke in front of the building. Not good.
