Smell is horrible

I have been living here now for almost a year and the smell is the worst I’ve ever endured. I walk out of my apartment and it hits you like a ton of bricks. I have complained and complained but nothing is being done about it. I guess if you don’t live here then you don’t really care

Be involved and persistent.

Hopefully it will continue to improve for us. I fully believe it's only better because I'm there often and making sure changes are happening for my loved one. I'm not sure if this is true for those that have no consistent advocate. With dementia patients, change can cause major setbacks. If not for that I would have moved him. At this point I'm not considering a move. Unfortunately, I think the attitude of most memory care is the patient is unaware so it doesn't matter unless a family member makes waves.

A few services offered, not being fulfilled at this time.

Room spacious and comfortable but light housekeeping not very thorough. Food service slow and sporadic, food quality not always good. Bus is not in service and there have been no outside activities since mom moved in on Jan. Uber is called for Dr appts, but we are currently still picking her up ourselves. Tenants are friendly and mom is enjoying the company as well as activities that are taking place. Facilities are currently being refreshed and mom's unit was fully renovated before moving in. Cost is very good compared to others. Mom is not in need of assistance but while staff is on the premises they are very attentive. At 7 every night all staff leaves and everyone is on their own.

The Fairmont by Barclay House review

It was good. She no longer lives at the Fairmont. It was ok. Had a problem with cockroaches. Washer and dryers don't work that well. Before she moved she hardly got her room cleaned. She never ate at the dining room because food wasn't good per her. Window in her room leaked. People who work there are nice and they do a lot of activities for the seniors.

nice community with room for improvement.

Overall the facility is lovely. There is a new company that just purchased the facility and now it is Heron Point. Time will tell. All in all the facility is beautiful and hoping services will be better., services and food could use some attention and optimistic about new owners.

Problems at first but we got them worked out.

My mother is recovering from a stroke. She requires a Hoyer lift, wheelchair and a hospital bed. It took a few weeks to arrange the necessary physical therapy and medical services due to a staffing shortage, communication issues and the inability of their approved medical providers to accept her insurance. These issues have been resolved. Things are currently working well.

Overall experience has not been good

The common areas are not kept clean. The bathrooms are constantly out of order and no one checks on a timely basis to replenish paper products. I am a very easy person to get along with but when it seems the staff isn't concerned it is very difficult. Overall experience has not been good.

Things to know

Staff was nice, but the 3 months she was there, there was a continual admin staff turnover. The food was NOT good. She lost weight while there and we had to bring her food. She understood about restrictive diets; however, there were NO options to season food for those who could do so. Food was served frozen in center also. A facility renovation was begun...carpets ripped up, paint, etc. But then abruptly stopped...found out the reno crew didn't have a permit! Floors were left bare...unsure for how long since she only stayed for her 3 month contract. Facility was still mid-reno when she left. 1 elevator in the entire facility. It went down for almost 48 hours. Folks on walkers and other mobility issues couldnt leave their floor. Those on the upper floors were served food in their rooms. Upon arrival, the a.c.in her room didnt work, nor did her room key. Took almost a week to get these fixed.

Moving mom to independent living

The Regency changed hands and became Heron Point shortly after mom got there and tried to settle in. With no children close by, things were tricky. Just when we started to learn the routine and who to talk to about things, many of the staff left and new people took over. Food went downhill, maintenance contact was let go, there was no cleaning staff…it was a mess. After 4 months, things have slowly gotten better but it’s honestly been hard. Mom has made some new friends and is engaging in some more activities as she has become more confident and comfortable with her new place. For that, we feel we have made the right choice putting her here.

Review for Sunrise of Decatur

It is friendly and clean and pleasant and I feel my mom is safe there. But food is quite poor, very inconsistent; often poor service. I worry that my mom is losing weight. She has a microwave and refrigerator in her room she sometimes uses. We spend a good bit on snacks for her to keep in her fridge to take the place of meals. Staff is nice and friendly but they are woefully short staffed and very slow to attend to needs such as broken air conditioner or trash removal. Activities are very limited and often there is no one to lead them. My mom is still mentally sharp but most of residents are not and she has trouble finding stimulation. The management has been receptive to hearing complaints and think they try. But my family is growing increasingly concerned about what we are spending and fear her money could dry up sooner than we were hoping. We had hoped to receive more for what we are getting for the price.

Laurel Glen at Carrollton Assisted Living review

Public areas are well maintained. Clients rooms are neglected. They do occasionally run a mop over the main traffic area if the room. Under the bed (hospital twin) is always dirty. I do not believe they have ever mopped the Bathroom floor. I bought cleaning supplies and clean his room a minimum of once a week. I clean the toilet, shower and vanity. For the most part the caregivers are very nice. After the first six months the turnover rate was astonishing. Administration [name removed] is brash. They said they would help him shower every other day. As a rule he showers once a week unless I handle it. On four occasions after speaking with him on his phone after business hours, I called to ask for someone to check on him. My call was answered by their Memory Care staff who said they would pass on my concerns to the assisted living side. I had to go to the facility on each of these occasions myself. I did call once and was able to speak with the correct staff. The food tastes good. The meats are always dry and over cooked. They do NOT prepare diabetic meals and serve him sweet tea a sugar desserts. That is in the administration not the chef. The activities are lame and not designed for people with their limitations. Hearing and limited mobility mostly. There is no attempt to have residence participate. They are given a copy of monthly activities at the first of the month and participation is on them. Most have declined memory and are not able to attend without some assistance. This may not be a fair rating as I have nothing to compare to. I feel that [fee removed]/month is high. Caregiver staff has no training on how to manage a catheter or how to manage clients special needs. He has dementia but it isn't advanced. They let him stay in bed until 10 or 11. I can only assume it is easier for them. He always misses breakfast. I would not and will not recommend Laurel Glen to anyone with a family member who is not capable of 90% of caring for themselves.

Review for New Haven at Little River

Many improvements could be made in quality of care staff and meals. This is a difficult industry to staff, and I know management works hard to provide a positive environment for residents. They can't seem to find the right "chef" although they do keep trying. Residents complain about meal quality regularly.

Our Experience

I would recommend Silver Creek to others. I just hope that people understand the limitations of assisted living facilities in Florida and exactly what the costs are, for add on assistance. I have learned a lot in the last few months. They have made changes in the last couple of months, so we will see how things go.

Food is awful and the facility has tried several cooks. Food is repeated used over and over for different dishes. There are no off campus activities. It would be nice to have a change is scenery to allow residents to see a world outside of the day to day. The on-site activities are monotonous and repetitive.
