My Tour Experience at The Reserve at Pearland

I didn't care for the community during the tour. The tour guides were nice. It felt the residents weren't as engaged as we wanted for our loved ones. During the tour it felt hot in the community and they had fans trying to keep the residents cool.

Most staff do not care about residents or their family

My father was a resident here from [dates removed] Unfortunately as a result of an incident with another resident he was pushed down and received severe head trauma. He passed in February. We hold no ill will toward the other resident but the response of the facility after the incident and since then has been atrocious. After my father was taken away by EMS they never followed up to ask how he was, and repeated follow ups to obtain refunds for money already paid have been met with mostly silence. We have also since learned from family members of other residents that they have allowed residents of the Memory Care Unit to escape the facility on multiple occasions without notifying the family. While my father was a resident the overall care by the staff and responsiveness to our family was almost nonexistent. Anytime that we visited they acted like we were a burden whenever we had questions about my father‘s well-being. I would never recommend this facility to anyone.

Management are liars, and make staff tell lies

VERY unhappy with management. I they agree to whatever you ask, then once they deposit your check your loved ones do not receive promised amenities.. And decision makers do not communicate with you, they have staff who can do nothing call you and tell you what they did. Do not trust management and they need to be replaced ASAP.

Watch your loved one’s closely

This facility was previously owned by Alterra. An employee dragged my mother in law to her bed (she had Alzheimer’s). Broke her hip and my MIL died within the year. We were not given access to police records until we hired an attorney. Which is how we found out what happened. Before we could sue, Alterra filed BK and the facility was reincarnated as Falls River Village.

Care at Colonial Oaks

My mom was a resident for about 3 months, my father had to remove her and bring her home due to the medical staff is not educated to take care of a person with diabetes. we were told Colonial Oaks would provide a diabetic diet and had a an RN on staff. maybe there was but we never saw her. My Dad went to visit my mom everyday and stayed 5-7 hrs each day. My Dad is 87 yrs old and he caught the staff medicating my mom incorrectly!! if you have a loved one there I would check their medication and diet, especially if thye are diabetic. The staff was very nice to my Mom. Its not their fault they are not trained or that the Director and asst. director said they would assist my mom's needs.

STEER CLEAR

I have not personally been to this facility but have heard horror stories from family members of residents at Agape'. Please consider other options before admitting your loved one to this facility. If you do decide to choose them, be prepared to pay significantly more than what you are initially told. They have some type of "care points" system that will result in substantial fees and the bill will be a total surprise to you and/or your loved one. Also, make sure to keep an eye on what medication is being given to your relative and ask questions. Keep in mind that side effects of many different medications can be worse in the elderly; for example, a medication that causes dizziness may result in a FALL if the elderly person is not supervised properly. Also, keep in mind that they are FOR PROFIT and that their bottom line is that dollar; not the people. They are paid to show sympathy and kindness in order to SELL a product to potential residents and their families. Once they've hooked you in, they will do or say whatever is necessary to keep your loved one there and charge whatever they want without seeking prior approval. Read the terrible reviews on Medicare.gov about Agape' in W. Columbia.

If your only choice is living out door or Colonial Oaks; then stay here. It's a low cost facility, and it's run like this. There is not adequate trained staff for number of residents. My in-laws had wait times of over an hour at times, after activating their emergency pendants. Food was adequate, but no fresh fruit. The management approach to tennants is, everyone gets same support, very little personalization, due to inadequate staffing. My beef is with the management, not staff, they did best they could with limited resources. The facility itself is nice and the apartments are spacious compared to similar assited living properties. As long as same management inplace, support will continue to be minimal.

It's Been a Nightmare Experience for The Family

I wouldn't recommend Falls River Court to others for their loved one. My loved one was there starting in the middle of a month in the winter. The family would have to send an email for any questions or requests we had, as they wouldn't speak to us in person. The head nurse would ignore the family whenever we would visit. One day I received a phone call about my loved one and they stated my loved one fell in the community. In actual reality my loved one was pushed down by another resident. My loved one ended up dying because of a result of this incident. The community is refusing to communicate any further about giving us a refund due to our experience. The family has documentation about the incident in the community and about our loved one being pushed in writing by the hospital. The community will not acknowledge this incident and how they plan to fix this in the future.

Terrible experience

My husband was only here for 2 days. They did not know he had passed away, my children had to find him. They charged us [price removed] for only 2 days because they charged him for the next month. We were not able to get any type of refund or lower cost because they said it had to be shared with A Place for Mom. It was a terrible experience.

Our tour experience

Our family had an in person tour and we were so excited about the tour, however we 100% hated the experience. We put down a deposit for our loved one, and we ended up getting refunded later because they never lived up to their promises. It was very "car salesmen like" which we did not appreciate. The lady giving us all the information was all about business. The outside of the facility is very clean, and nice but the inside is the completely opposite. That is how they suck you in. It is not as clean as it appears, and it does not seem safe for those in wheelchairs. I would not put my best friends dog in Greenhaven.

Falls River Court (Memory Care)

I would not recommend Falls River Court. From the moment we moved my Dad there ([date removed]) we were disappointed. My Dad walked with a walker before he arrived there. He was put in a wheelchair at arrival and kept in one until we moved him out [date removed]. He did have PT while there but we were told he was at baseline and they couldn't help him any further. The Director of Nursing (not longer with FRC) was a fan of sedation. If you keep the residents sedated and in wheelchairs they are less a "problem". We were told that my Dad was agitated a lot. They wanted to keep him medicated. Many times there is not enough staff to be able to care for the residents safely. On Christmas Day evening there was one med tech for 36 residents. This happened frequently. We have since moved my Dad to a smaller residential home. He is one of 6 residents. He has been taken off most of the medication that he was on while at FRC. We've been told numerous times that he is always happy and has not been agitated one time. We are so thankful to God for helping us to find the new place and would highly recommend it to anyone. While there are several staff members at FRC that are kind and loving to the residents it just wasn't / isn't a good place for Dad.

My grandfather was a resident at Colonial Oaks at Pearland & he wore a pendant around his neck to call for staff when he needed assistance. It always took at least over 2 hours or more before anyone would respond & they seemed more concerned in turning the alarm off on the pendant when they came in the room, than finding out what my grandfather needed. The food portions were quite small and if he wanted seconds, it was denied as he was always told there was no more food left. If he wanted food after meals, he was required to keep snacks to eat from what family brought in or what he could buy if they ever went to the grocery store. The trips outside the facility were frequently canceled that were suppose to allow residents to go shopping for groceries or personal items or even go to a restaurant but the one van they had available was broken so often that inevitably the trip would not occur. The main occupation was Bingo, & it had no real outside grounds to walk around. The little central outdoor courtyard they have, did not have any lounge chairs set out or any outdoor activities scheduled there. (Mealtime Service at Colonial Oaks in Pearland: Unreasonably Long Wait For Service) It was a common experience for my grandfather to go to his table and be forgotten. If you're lucky, a busser might pour you some water, but your server is busy elsewhere and the manager is either dealing with some other issue or simply out to lunch (even if it's dinnertime). There you sit with no drinks, no acknowledgement of your presence. Sure, things get very busy. But five or ten minutes of sitting and talking amongst yourselves is more than enough. It was not uncommon for residents to have to wait 30 minutes to an hour before being served when they had shown up on time in the dining room. It was much too long of a wait for my grandfather. The cable provided was quite basic with very limited selection, and my grandfather had no ability to fast forward past commercials, or to record any programs as it was not standard at Colonial Oaks at Pearland. If you wanted that kind of service for your TV, you were expected to not only pay for the exorbitant Assisted Living fee but also pay for a separate TV subscription out of you own pocket (essentially paying twice for the cable service)!! The cost charged at Colonial Oaks at Pearland is quite pricey for a place that seems altogether understaffed or at least with a staff that does not seem highly motivated. I would recommend looking elsewhere for your loved ones if you seek attentive care.

Don’t move here

First of all we are no longer Brookdale we are Embark. And the quality of everything has gone down down down. I would NOT recommend moving here!!! We were without hot water 5 weeks. I have been needing repairs since the day I moved in a year ago. The Bistro is horrible! The new owners and staff talk down to us. They really don’t care .

Do not move in here

I’m moving my mom out! It’s sad to see the new management has turned against long term employees. The moral is so low. It doesn’t look like anyone’s happy or cares anymore. Do not move your family member in here.
