The overall experience, and cleanliness has been just ok. The staff are very nice, they provide good care and have good activities. The meals and value for cost are not great. The people are very nice. Management has recently been replaced so we will see if the improvements stick. New management has made some positive changes.

We did not tour IL or AL. 4th & 3rd: More interaction between staff & resident on 4 than on 3. More activities on 4. Exercise "class" was often a program on tv. When someone was there it was great and they were good about getting people to interact. Little to no activities on weekends. Bathroom floor often sticky. Clothes hung up haphazardly like a 5 yr old might do. Incontinent needs not taken care of. 4th fl elevator is unlocked at night & noone down on 1st. If 3rd flr elevator can be secured, so can 4th. nice patio but to walk, it's just around the bldg. because of their location. Towels, washcloths, hand towels never got back to our loved one's room. 3 & 4 is a hard population to take care of. Some on 4 were very nice to our loved one. Someone on 4 moved their spouse a few months ago; we moved our person a month ago as well a month ago; know of 2 others looking elsewhere. Bill for anything beyond rm&brd: meds, incontinence etc.

The two stars are for the nice building and back garden and a few staff members who made an effort and ran some nice craft activities. Everything else experienced by our 2-person assist, 90-year-old mother in assisted living was terrible during the three months she lived here. The biggest problem: long waits for aides who were often rude and dismissive. Dismissive staff in general, including managers. The facility is staffed only to meet state regulations, not to address actual resident needs or fulfill care promises. Long waits for dining service. Complaints about food quality. High staff turnover. Some exercise classes are just parking residents in front of videos. They have a new executive director who promises to turn things around, but there is a lot of work to do. I would not place an assisted living family member here until/unless many improvements are made. We had to move our mother to a different place.

They don't use their own staff. It's agency staff. My mom was in memory care. Every time I visited her, the staff was different which was confusing for everyone. The staff often spoke a different language amongst themselves while sitting with the residents during mealtimes. All residents were parked in front of the TV during the day. They didn't want them in their rooms cause "they needed to keep an eye on them." So naps were in their chairs. There was no activity director for memory care during my mom's stay. All in all - beautiful facility but I wouldn't recommend it

My loved one was previously a resident at Sunrise of Edina and the overall experience was not a good one for us. The food was disgusting. The facility was not clean. Also, some major maintenance repairs that were requested were never completed. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Sunrise of Edina to others.

The facility admits anybody, even when knowing they are not qualified for the level of care that they can provide. For example, they will not accommodate any special diet such as for diabetics, but say they will when families ask on admission. Also, will admit dementia patients and others that need advanced care, when the facility is not staffed or qualified to meet their needs. The food is good sometimes, also sometimes terrible. Mostly the quality is average at best. The food is not worth the money. Individual rooms are supposed to be cleaned weekly, but it is often done every two or three weeks. Constant staffing issues and excuses for the neglect. There is constantly a big turnover in staff at all levels . They often hire marginally qualified, or outright unqualified people for some positions. Genuinely good staffing is spotty at best, but there are a few super people. The move in process was easy and smooth. This facility is beautiful when you walk in, but there are lots of problems underneath. However, it is under new management, and it looks like, at least right now, that there is some effort to work on some of the problems. I cannot say that I would recommend this facility, if people have any other choice.

In the short time my father has been a resident there has been a lot of turn over of staff including management. Care was awful in the beginning. . Sales pitch says that call bells are answered in 10 minutes but in reality it took them over an hour several times to respond to my father's call bell. It has improved since I reached out to the corporate office to discuss my complaints which were several.

Most of the staff are very nice and friendly. The place is clean. Food was disappointing. Poor communications. Increased our mom's care level without notifying us. No activities in the evening. They could not provide the care my mom needed.

We placed my mother in memory care at Sunrise of Dublin when the previous director was in place. It had great reviews and the employees seemed to have been there for a long time. I remember touring the facility and seeing the pictures of the employees on the 3rd floor with the years each had been employed next to their picture. When that director left and new leadership came, it seemed like half the staff turned over within a year. I know in this industry turnover is common but amount of staff that come and go on in memory care is confusing and concerning. The programing is almost non-existent. I'm not even sure there is a person in charge of programming for the residents at this time. Dan, who plays the piano is the only bright spot and is excellent! Every time I go they are watching TV. There could be things going on when I'm not visiting but the Smile pictures are gone now too so I wouldn't know. The most concerning for me is the total lack of communication. There is very little communication with the family or between the staff. If I happen to visit and happen to talk to a care worker I might find out that my mom has a problem with her Depends and needs a one piece that zips up the back. I might find out she needs an adult sippy cup or larger size clothes. It just seems like there is no one in charge. The staff doesn't seem to talk to each other. My mom recently fell and broke her arm. She is supposed to wear a sling that wraps around her body. She has never had it on when I visit (3X) and when I asked about the first time the response was "Is she supposed to wear it all the time?".

I was a resident at Sunrise of Metairie. I would not recommend this facility to others.

We had issues with the staff providing quality care to my loved one. She required extra help, particularly with hygiene, that often was a problem for the staff. They also started nickel and diming us. We ended up having to pull our loved one out. I would recommend the facility for people who do not need a lot of assistance and can get around on their own.

Expect loved one to be left to acclimate on their own when entering. The move in coordinator met us at the door on the first day and we never saw or heard from her again. There is no individual support or outreach. Communication and coordination by the facility with the family is nonexistent. No integration or invitation to activities. Took 2 months to get us on the activities app. If my father did not have a medical regimen, we would not hear from anyone, ever about my father's wellbeing. Care plan is not reviewed with or shared with the family. No effort to ensure resident is getting the care level they need. My father had 1 shower in one month. When asked, we were told he refused showers. My father was not changed. Most staff are bothered by questions and requests. Some staff have privately shared with us they do not feel appreciated or valued for their work by the leadership. They are overworked. Call buttons are not responded to for hours at a time. Moved father with dementia who is in hospice care to different room without notice. The facility is not culturally or linguistically inclusive.

Be present in your loved ones care to make sure they're accountable for what they say they do... Communication has been a major concern. As of right now, I would not recommend this facility. They have a lot they need to improve on.

My Mom has been here for almost 2 years. She moved in during the Covid insanity, and while my mother was vaccinated, it was still work to get her into the facility. When she moved in the care was better than I expected for the first few months. I got status updates, and the people seemed to be working to make my Mom comfortable. Most of the senior staff when she moved in where 10+ year members, and many had been there since it started. Sadly the expensive Covid requirements, and the inability to find workers killed off most of the senior staff. They tried to carry the business until they gave up. Now this facility is not even close to what it was. The chain was bought out, and the new company is trying to save money everyplace it can from what I see. The food quality. With staff quality deteriorating, and more than a thousand dollars in increased prices in less than 2 years the value just isn't there anymore. At $[removed]+/mo for a small space, and crappy meals isn't worth it! Sadly...

Sunrise does not have the residents best interest in mind. I picked it because I didn't have the knowledge or experience to know better. It was convenient.

The physical building, room layout and design as well as the location were wonderful. Sadly that's all I can broadly say was good about our experience. We had major communication issues with the operations management staff. Despite trying to call them, they were never available and we'd leave messages that weren't returned. When we were there in person we requested to speak to management and they never replied despite our being told they were on site. We never received information as we moved our father in as to what items they provided vs. what we needed to supply, I.e. Kleenex, paper towels, toilet paper, so we never knew what we exactly were to stock for him. We weren't told what day his laundry would be done, when his room would be cleaned, etc. When we experienced issues with his laundry, bedding, clothing disappearing from his room and not returning for days, if at all, we were told it was in the wash, but there are numerous items that we NEVER saw again or received back. For example, we took 3 cotton blankets (like they have in hospital beds) and when we moved him out, there was only 1 in his room. We had issues with the cleanliness of his room. He ate meals in his room and the facility dishes with food would be left multiple days in his room or sink. His dishes for things we provided such as his coffee and smoothies would sit in the sink until a family member washed them. He always had food crumbs on the floor making it look like he went more than a week between vacuuming. He had trash overflowing. The staff was mixed. He had 1 care giver whom he truly trusted and we know took care of him. There were others who did not appear to be trained well enough to care for him or they had language barriers making it challenging for them to communicate with him! For example despite his asking them they would not use a gait belt when lifting/moving him. They repeatedly told him it wasn't necessary yet he was a big man at 250+ pounds with a severe fall risk. Not all staff seemed trained on using the Hoyer lift. Staff inexperience resulted in him experiencing severe bruising and ripped skin due to caregivers mishandling him when working with him. He had 1 nurse who we truly felt cared for him and strived to assist him. The Sales manager was responsive in most situations and seemed to empathize with our position when we discussed them. We asked on more than one occasion if our expectations were too high and were assured they were not, yet the disappointment continued. I feel the facility is severely understaffed and could benefit from additional training. They all seemed to have more patients to serve than physically possible and it was my father who suffered as a result! The slow or non-responsiveness of the staff resulted in him missing an entire dialysis session because they did not have him dressed and out of bed when his contracted (by us) medical transport came to pick him up. Additionally, due to their staffing shortages there were days when he went as late as 9:45 AM before being brought breakfast, yet he is diabetic and hadn't eaten since the night before. On multiple occasions I had to call them due to low blood sugar alerts because they had not fed him yet. I could go on, but feel this is demonstrative enough to the care he did or did not receive. I would not recommend this facility due to its current staffing and experience level!

The facilities are lovely. And the care staff is managed well but the overall tone is not able the residents experience it's about what upper management wants. The executive staff made the friendliness of the staff lower then 5, but the care staff have been excellent. The nursing care however has not been up to par.

Toured In the spring and again recently. One floor smelled very strongly of smoke and the manager told me it was being taken care of. Toured again months later and there was no improvement. Common areas were clean if dated. Pool area was uninviting and needed tile repair Food was ok, but can’t picture eating it 3x a day Heard from residents that there is a high YoY rent increase

Care for my mother has been less than acceptable. It will OFTEN be hours before someone responds to her bell. The communication amongst staff is horrible and no one knows what the other is doing. There is almost NO activities for the residents. It used to cards, crafts, games, movies etc. now it’s just bingo and the occasional “trivia” which consists of a staff member reading questions while no one answers. For $[removed] you would expect more. The director, [name removed], is utterly useless and is always in her office on her computer. We used to have tons of family events with lots of good food and now sometimes we don’t even get notice of events. The food is inedible and they are always out of something. It shouldn’t be hard to have food in house for the residents.

There are not enough words to describe the anger and frustration we've felt since my mother and father moved there 3 years. From not being taken out of bed all day, to not having my dad's diaper changed within the 3 hours since ringing his buzzer. Not being showered in 3 weeks because he didn't smell! The list goes on and on and we've been bringing all these issues to the Manger who tells us this is unacceptable and will be addressed until it happens again.
