Sonida Senior Living

My Mom had to go to the hospital on Oct 17 and her doctor would not release her back to Oakwood Hills as they did not have the care she needed. We still had to pay another month's rent and they will mail the security deposit back at the end of another 30 days. I don't understand that with a doctor's note--they would not release her from the contract. THe glasses were not properly cleaned--some of the food was not cooked all the way through. You pay enough for a good facility and you don't even get what they promised you.

I had planned to move my spouse in and on the day I started the shared bathroom was smeared in poop - floors, toilet seat, toilet - I could not move my spouse in to share a space with this being the case. I was told housekeeping was aware the resident was regularly missing the toilet. If they knew they should have addressed it. Carpets were filthy throughout. Staff were loud and bickering not paying attention to memory care residents.

Room size etc was fine Care not so much. Often laundry was piled up Many missing items. Most of staff sat around on cell phones while patients slept in chairs and ignored. You always could smell urine throughout facility. We often were told they would address our comments but----all talk no action Wish I could be positive but-----We took him out of there

The place has gone downhill. Some of the best staff has left. I’ve been told 7 residents moved out last month and 7 have left this month. Staff members have told me at least 17 residents are leaving. The management is awful. Unfriendly and a terrible egoist. Blames everybody but herself for the problems that happen. I will be moving my wife out soon

The one waitress won’t wait on you right. You tell her the menu. You just get the main meal nothing else. She’s kinda rude. Other people noticed that she skips people. Like she doesn’t want to work. The others are great.

Admin staff is nonexistent. No communication. I have hired outside staff to care for my parents. They have had several complaints and have closed 3 cases with the ombudsman. Do not recommend.

My mother has been at The Addison 6 weeks and is yet to receive all of the items in her documented service plan. All of the residents report the food is generally "terrible". I have had multiple meetings in person with the director with no satisfaction. Staff after office hours is non-existent. Mom reported a forceful push into her room in the night by staff! A place for mom recommended the Jasper of Meadows Place (formerly [community removed]). The name was changed when it was purchased by a new management company(Sonida, Dallas, Tx) My wife was a resident from [dates removed]. My wife has been steadily declining and on hospice all this time. Originally, we were told that my wife could "age in place". My wife was summarily presented with an eviction notice, and threatened with a lawsuit that would have her "removed from the premises", Over time, quality of the facility, dietary, activities, and staff steadily declined. The turnover of staff at all levels was extraordinary. Replacement staff were always less skilled and caring. The staff (aides, med techs) are not required to be be credentialed/certified or fluent on English. The facility claims they have an "emergency electrical system". However, the generator does not produce enough power of the resident's room. On average, we lost power every 8 months. Not a place for Mom.

My experience was one of the most emotional, mentally and financially exhausting experiences of my life, and I am still recovering from it. There were serious concerns regarding safety, communication, documentation, and how changing care needs were handled. When additional support became necessary, I felt there was no clear care plan or strategy, which resulted in significant unexpected expenses. Ultimately, we were told the community could no longer meet our loved one's needs. Had this been communicated earlier, it would have prevented a great deal of emotional and financial stress. I also found some members of the care leadership to be insensitive and difficult to work with during an already overwhelming situation. When you trust others to care for a vulnerable loved one, you expect compassion, communication, and support. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. This was an extremely difficult experience for our family, and I would not recommend this community based on what we went through.

Our experience with the community was very disappointing. We had concerns about safety, attentiveness, and whether individual care needs were being consistently addressed. We also did not feel that staff developed the level of connection and understanding we had hoped for. Ultimately, we they did not meet our expectations and we regret our time there.

This facility used to be great. There are a few isolated great ones still left and the chef is dedicated, food is good; lost their director and facility manager, and there is literally no one in charge on site currently. They say they send someone who is in an acting role, but you never see that person. The kitchen abutting dining room is absolutely filthy with disgusting food splattered all over the cabinets and sink and the fridge/freezers are disgusting and you can never find a working icemaker. Then cannot find staff there are only two on at night and there are over 60 people residing there. Young girls who run away and hide from requests. They will have somebody leave and ask another employee to do both jobs but not give that person any extra compensation. Their poor employees suffer until they can take it no more and they leave. They try not to because they love the residents and they have lost so many good people who are there for the right reasons. Dumbest corporate ever.

The visit went well and will serve as a basis for looking at other sites so I don't have a good idea yet about what else is available.Our guide was very helpful and answered all questions clearly.This site would provide good care.

I actually took my dad out of there after 3 days. Management was incredibly disorganized to the point that my dad received no care during his first three days. None of his medical stuff was set up so nursing staff weren't able to hold his medication and no one explained to him how anything worked so my dad didn't know how to ask for help or even when meals were etc. Other people seemed happy and the room was nice. Just couldn't keep him there in good conscience

This is a great place to be if you don't require any help or care. The facility is beautiful, and the NON-nursing staff is great! But the nursing staff doesn't provide the care services that are being paid for by the residents. Most residents aren't bathed. CNAs don't properly clean up after residents. The nursing staff will complain and retaliate if you ask them to actually do their job. Management knows it and does nothing, and still charges the residents. I know more than one resident who has had health issues because of the poor quality of care given here.

I paid [Amount removed] for ten days of service and they are trying to charge even more. The nursing staff couldn’t even detect that I was ill but when I transferred facilities, they still charged another month’s rent and drug care saying they could take care of me even though I needed more care.

Be aware, The Addison of Port Orange has turned into a dumpster fire. The cost cutting and staff turnover has completely ruined what was once a family friendly, highly professional community. Since Sonida Senior Living acquired the business from The Benton House, the management and overall decision making has introduced health risks to every resident. My mother was given the wrong medications and once it was brought to the leadership’s attention, it was denied and not dealt with appropriately. Medication schedule varies daily. Morning meds can be given as late as 12 noon. A neighbor of my mother’s calls out continually for help with absolutely no response from the staff. Weekend staff presence is dangerously low. Staff members that have had to clean up bowel accidents have been sent to work in the kitchen immediately there after. I cannot recommend this facility, particularly for residents requiring a high level of care. My family member was assessed before admission and placed at a higher care level, which we paid for accordingly. This included assistance with eating, dressing, bathing and getting in and out of bed. The facility did not have enough staff to provide this level of care and my loved one ended up in the hospital due to a fall. A caregiver on staff that day said it was due to being short staffed. If your loved one requires consistent, hands-on support, I would look somewhere else.

Dirty, old, smelled pot and the guide said at one point she thought it was an employee. It was extremely unimpressive.

My LO was residing here in MC. They were unable to get her to take medication as prescribed and her behavior reacted to no medications. She was sent out 2x to the hospital and then psych facility due to behavior. Not once did this facility reach out to contact me that LO was not under their care. Both times they only responded when I reached out to ask them how much longer they would wait to contract me. Do not put your LO here as they will ignore issues happening within facility and with your LO due to ‘being too busy’. They continually didn’t do things needed before my LO even left the facility but I let that go hoping that care was better than cleanliness and other issues. Realize now it was a whole host of issues.

I am extremely disappointed in this facility. First and foremost to be told that some of the caretakers are rough, mean and throw the very people around that pay their salaries is terrible!! If you don't like being a caregiver find another occupation. Then there's the cleanliness. It was absolutely gross! Floors haven't been mopped, bathroom was dirty and don't get me started on the plumbing issues!!! Do better for the amount people pay to live here!
