Memory care needs help

Seems like memory care is segregated from the rest of the community. When we moved our loved one in we were told it was one big community. Seems like they cater to IL and AL They have wonderful food and dining for them. Memory are does not get the same quality even though we are paying the most to live there.some management has acted unprofessional to the point of telling some people I’f they don’t like it there then we could get the f out and she would have boxes to help us pack! There's a lack of certain things in regards to servicing. My loved one was there for at least a year in assisted living. Communication is lacking; how they deal with clients and families is subpar. We had to move her out because she was not being bathed properly. She was difficult, however, there was no explanation to that. Cleaning in the room was inconsistent, there would be dust under the bed and on the side tables. My loved one was supposed to be on a restricted calorie diet, and that was not taken care of. She was 50 pounds overweight, which shows there was a lack of concern in nutrition. In regards to the staff - I told the Director of Care Operations that when we tried to move my loved one from assisted living to Light Bridges, we never received a call from the General Manager for reassessing of pricing. They wanted more money, but never reciprocated the information we needed as to how we can navigate that. They were unprofessional and their communication was as well. I understand that they have to make money, but you can make a profit and also communicate with clients and prospective sales. It's a beautiful great looking building, but I would not recommend the property. I wanted my mom to stay in Reston, but the organizational structure is lacking. They have a lot of turnover. They lack culture, you need a positive culture in a professional organization like that and it's lacking.

Our experience

We like the people, other than a couple of sharp replies to my friend when kitchen staff were stressed. We were disappointed to find that there were no disposals or ice makers in the fridge. I didn't think to look for that. I know the logic of the management company, but it's cheap economy. She had all that and a bigger apartment in Birmingham, do us a bit dissatisfied. The food is not great, average at best. She hasn't participated in many activities due to health. They seem fine. The value probably is as good as it gets in Raleigh. They are basically good and most staff and residents are very friendly. Many people we met love it there. But some improvements are needed.

Pretty Facility, Needs Help With Staff

I think the facility itself is fine if you were putting a friend or family member in the independent area. If you were thinking about the memory care wing, I would not suggest it. Management is really good about saying hello and how are you. The aides in the memory care unit are unskilled people sitting around on their cell phones. I don't see a lot of interaction between the aides and the residents in the memory care area. If a manager turns a corner, they all jump up. If no manager, they are all sitting around.

Visited this facility on [date removed]. Nice facility. Updated but not overly fancy. Staff was friendly enough. We were greeted by a resident in her wheelchair coming out the front door with what appeared to be no supervision. Staff when alerted seemed familiar with this resident and her tendencies and was not alarmed. Somewhat disconcerting to an unfamiliar guest though. Toured the Memory Care portion and seemed pretty typical from other facilities. Another resident was sitting in the floor as we were led on tour past his room. He appeared fine but the individual who was showing us around did not seem overly concerned but after we walked past twice and I actually showed some concern, she did not offer the resident any assistance at all, but did alert the nursing staff. It's a nice facility, clean, etc., and appeared professional. The incidents with the residents may have been coincidental, but did not give me a feeling of proper supervision of residents.

Compare Retirement Homes Carefully!

This place will not open until January 2017 and I feel there are still a lot of unknowns about this place. They say one amenity is smoke detectors and sprinkler systems. These are required by law. The room prices are very high for what you get when compared to other homes nearby. What will their financial future be? Will money be handled wisely? Will this place stay or fold in future because of financial difficulties? You are paying for 3 meals daily- if you decide to eat in your room you are paying for food you bought too. If I went now as a resident I would be paying for assisted living which I do not need.

MAYBE the place for a healthy Independent Senior

The Artisan at Hudson MIGHT be OK for a Healthy Independent Senior...IF they enjoy real-life guesses + mystery (i.e: How many more days will this same salty soup be served? or “What part of our contracted Resident Agreement will be changed this month?”) and IF they not have high blood pressure, diabetes, special diet, or need much attention. The Artisan has not prioritized resident needs over making a profit if you check their Dinner Menu, you can decide if you can afford it. Communication is POOR = On the past THREE holidays a special meal was advertised, then changed literally at the last minute as guests were arriving “because the Executive Chef "didn’t know/wasn’t prepared for it”! When current Management changed our original signed Residency Contract, we were told if we didn’t agree to their revised contract terms we could move…so we did! Some residents couldn't physically make the move, so they are now in a difficult situation with unmet contract terms.

Clean, but not enjoyable.

The management team does not strive to improve their responsiveness and communication with residents and attend to the needs and concerns of the community. There is not a diverse range of activities offered to residents that are engaging, stimulating, and cater to a variety of interests. It's a cycle of repetitive and mundane activities. The activity director to does not engage with residents to foster a sense of connection and create a welcoming and inclusive environment. There have been many complaints about the food quality which has never been addressed. I would not recommend Hunter Woods.

Artisan has a culture that treats tenants like subordinates

I have been a resident at the Artisan in Hudson, MA, since their opening. In that time I have witnessed many physical malfunctions (i.e., heat, lights, etc.) a rent increase of 6%, and an attitude from kitchen staff that they don't have to match the food with the description in the menu. WE ARE PAYING FOR A PRODUCT DESCRIBED IN THE MENU; THEY ARE NOT DOING US A FAVOR BY SUPPLYING IT. If you enjoy being subordinated, this is the right place for you. Tonight I ordered a dish descried in the menu as containing 5 scallops...it came with only 4, and I pointed the discrepancy and was told they did not intend to make good. If they ever do produce the missing item I will tell them what they can do with it.

Beware looks can be deceiving!!

Please beware of brining your love one to Lumina yes they will show you a beautiful facility with what they call state of the art technology. It is all a lie the tempo system they use is useless it will alert the care staff that a resident is in the bathroom for too long and in all actuality the resident is sitting in the dinning room or in there room watching tv. Also the care staff is over worked and under staffed for example there could be one medication technician and two caregivers for about 26 residents depending on what side you are on they will tell you staff one side 6 to 1 but to my calculations that is 8 to 1. So 3 staff member one being the medication technician who has to pass meds is responsible for getting residents up for meals taking orders serving them cleaning up after them. Ask yourself this can 3 people handle all of that without something going wrong? There are other facilities I would say more but can’t this review is only allowed 1000 characters. Just do research

Wouldn't send my dead dog

Moved in [date removed]. Everything great at first. Then, we noticed things: medication not given correctly, few activities except daily happy hour, staff turnover was an epidemic! 6 complaint-related investigations of this facility by VA Dept of Social Services in 2 years. Most recent was from what ultimately led to my father-in-law's death. Supposed to be monitored nightly (per Dr’s orders) for CPAP compliance. Went to bed around 9 PM. The investigation revealed that the facility could only prove that they checked 14 out of 25 days. The [date removed]day he left the facility permanently. He had fallen the night before and couldn't get up. When found the next morning, he was already in organ failure from being on the floor all night (still in street clothes, not pajamas). He had fallen prior to going to bed and no one checked on him all night. 9 days later he passed. So far, no one has told us of any corrections. [removed]

Frightening journey

Very sad Journey for my loved one and me. Medications not always given on time, or missed altogether. Residents are not taken to the bathroom enough. I was promised stimulating activities for my loved one in memory, like daily baking, yet very little activities ever happen. Day after day memory residents just sit and do a lot of nothing but watch tv as their main source of interaction. What's written on the daily activities board is not what always happens. Some staff are very kind, while other staffers can be rude to residents and their families. One staff CNA often yells at memory care residents constantly to sit down. It is a loud environment, not peaceful for memory care residents. Workers rarely engage the residents or talk to them. Memory residents are not allowed to access the AL dining area,, even if accompanied by family. Cameras are allowed, but staff continuously keeps moving the camera. The food is okay, some days very good others days average.

Do not trust this place

My mother's experience at Edgeworth Park at New Town was terrible. In December 2021, as my sister and I did not live in the area and needed a short-term (one month) place for our mother before moving her to North Carolina, we trusted Edgeworth Park at New Town to provide her with safe care and paid for full support in a one-bedroom unit. When we came to pick her up, we were told she had become incontinent and probably had a urinary, so we should take her to the emergency room. Beyond being surprised that the facility had not taken the initiative to have her checked by a doctor, we were horrified to discover she had spent the entire month sleeping on the couch, as the bed was too high for her to climb in unassisted. As a result, her legs were seriously swollen and covered with sores, and she was no longer able to walk. The only comment from the person who was responsible for daily care was that she (the "care" giver) hadn't been at work for several days. We immediately took our mother to the emergency room and mov

Look elsewhere for a memory care unit

It was a sad experience visiting this memory care unit. There were no activities for the residents to do. It didn't appear they had a activity director. The residents seemed to sit around idle and watch TV for all day for their recreation. I only saw two CNAS in the memory care unit assisting with the residents needs. I saw several residents needing assistance with cutting up their food but no one assisted. My search will continue. I would not recommend this facility. I left very sad and melancholy.

Problems w/Financial Issues - a refund

I contracted for an apartment @ the Reserve as POA for an individual in late December under their EOY financing special - 50% off the community fee & 1st 3 month's rent - paid in advance. My individual's health dramatically declined and she had to enter a nursing home in late January. She never occupied her apartment nor did we move any furnishings into it. I canceled the rental agreement in late January and asked for a refund of the unused rent for February & March - they waived the 30 days cancellation due to my individual's health issues. Once we were no longer a prospective tenant their responsiveness declined dramatically. Calls weren't returned, emails weren't responded to unless prompted, and they became evasive about the refund - passing the buck to corporate. When I did get a refund it was slightly more than 1/3 of what it should have been w/o any explanation of how it was calculated. A very disappointing end and not what I expected based on how they had presented themselves.

Very poor care

Very poor care. Always short staffed. Unknowledgeable administration regarding the safety and laws regarding an elderly population. Medications are not given on time or missed altogether. Lack of daily activities and outings. Please do your research and visit this facility (unannounced) prior to moving your loved one here. We are moving our loved one to another facility. I don't feel my family member is safe here anymore. I fear the lack of staff will continue to create a very unsafe environment for the residents.
