The AL side of this property is wonderful, however the Memory Care side is dark, small and sad.

They do not do the activity bus and other things that they said they were going to do at this community. There is no adapting with the activities and not everyone is able to participate. I would say consider very carefully another community and do not waste your money. They stated that this was the best of the best and if this is it, it is not good.

It's kind of a raggedy operation. High staff turnover so there's no career professionals working there. Nice building. Nice activity program. Smells clean. But sloppy in some ways. They never cut my resident friends finger and toe nails, they let them grow for an inch! I have to bring diagonal cutters and sneakily cut them myself. It's crazy but true. The cook job is also high turnover and somethings wrong, I guess it's extremely low paid and the food has been quite shabby on the few times that I have visited. So, it's not bad but do not expect good service. Just a minimum to get by.

Mom was safe but the care was subpar. Thankfully she had hospice coming in daily. She has moved on from Gold Choice to another memory care facility close by! We were grateful to have GC when we needed in an emergency.

I took a tour of Gold Choice Ormond Beach when searching for a Memory Care facility for my loved one. This facility was okay overall. The cleanliness and friendliness were okay. However, it was not what I was looking for in a facility for my loved one.
It smelled like pee the second we walked into the door and it was an immediate turn off. They had no covers on the tables in the dining room.

Bad experience. Family member left sitting on toilet for almost one hour, twice. Felt more like nursing home rather than assisted living.

I had to move my mother out of this community. She had out grown this facility, and needed more care than they were able to provide. There are not many aids in this community. My mother had an accident where she landed in the hospital. While she was there, they informed me they did not want her to return. This was no longer the community for us.

Everything promised up front totally unfulfilled. Told first month being July would be half off in honor of veterans was not. Asked administration about this she scoffed and stated said sounds like a whole lot of he said she said to me turned her back & walked off. Administrator couldn’t say much money would be debited the first month after taking a blank check to make a copy of it. Brand new expensive things were removed and never returned by staff from room and witnessed on one occasion. Medications transferred from previous faculty disappeared upon arrival so all new medications had to be purchased at our expense which couldn’t be done immediately. Does of heart medications necessary for health were missed. Took staff hours to answer call button to assist toileting so accidents occurred leaving client feeling ashamed with loss of dignity. Administration stated alert button wasn’t pressed it was witnessed it had been a staff was also witnessed turning it off. Roach infested.

I would give Gold Choice zero stars if I could. Our tour was not good. We didn't get tot talk to very many people. The facility was drab looking. It was so bad it didn't even compare at all to the other places we looked at.

Outside it looks like an awesome facility for the elderly population. I have a loved one that has moved here to be closer to family. We toured before Covid and we were getting ready to move my loved one in. I called and there is a whole new management team. I learned that they let their new sales person go to bring back the one that walked out on the position a few months back. I can’t recall her name however she was the first person we spoke with and we’re not impressed with in the very beginning. We were considering moving my loved one in after meeting and speaking with the executive director . Her name was [name removed]. She has since left and they now have a new one . This is a hard time for everyone so consistently would be a plus. Not very reassuring to hear about all the changes and the fact they would bring back someone that walked out a few months ago without notice is surprising. I live right outside Valdosta and the word of mouth is nothing positive. In fact it’s very troubling.

I went by the middle of last week and I will say the design and outside of the facility is beautiful. However the staff member I spoke with greeted me at the door .She said the lady I needed to speak with for information was not there but she would be back shortly. It was as freezing but I waited outside anyway as she made it sound as if she would be pulling in at any moment . I waited for several min.then I walked back and knocked and she came out of the side office with what appeared to be ufrustration in her eyes. She had on a mask so couldn’t see the rest of her face. I asked her for a brochure. She handed me a packed but when I arrived home I opened it and there wasn’t but one price sheet . So I still have no idea about anything and I felt like I was brushed off and to stand in the cold. She didn’t even ask for my contact information so someone could call me and talk to me about moving my mother in . I will definitely not being moving her in At The Canopy.

Have referred several to the facility. None have prosper in fact every one has experienced a decline in health since they moved in . Weight loss has been the most drastic. I have tried to speak with someone and everyone is brand new. It will be awhile before I refer anyone again. It’s unfortunate because the appearance is very nice but what goes on or need I say what doesn’t go on on the inside is what troubles me.

Very dirty, worn out and smelled bad. It was a surprise last minute visit, the 3 CNA's were huddled at the end of the hallway, one was sitting up an a rolling cart, they were chatting and having a good time. Never moved even when the [name removed] said she was giving me a tour. The residents were lined up in the hall just sitting in their chairs, none look well kept or happy.

This review is for the Ormond Beach Facility: I have waited to write this review so I wouldn't be upset and say things that were only based on emotion. My mom was in this facility which on the surface seemed to be a good choice. Living out of state, I usually would call ahead and let them know I was coming in town. One time I asked if they could have my mom ready and in the lobby as we had to get to an appointment. When I arrived I found my mom in her room in her pajamas- she told me she didn't have any clothes. That's strange - I had just bought her numerous outfits, new sheets, towels, etc. on my last visit a couple months prior. Staff told me they were in the dryer. I checked the dryer only to find one pair of pants and her comforter that reeked of urine the minute the dryer was open. I brought the pants to the then Director [name removed]- asked if she would let her mother wear these. She said they would rewash them. They did and then proceeded to put them on her bed - wet. How in the world could clothes that had been washed smell so terrible? The gal who did the laundry told me (and I saw with my own eyes) they were washing clothes in cold water. The gal also told me they use cheap soap that doesn't get clothes clean. After bringing this to the Director's attention - it was still happening 2 days later. Prior to my visit my mom had fallen- I was told she was fine & that they were required to call me. During my visit I noticed my mom was not using her right hand. She said it has bothered her since the fall. Come to find out when I asked the facility about this- I was told she was, in fact, not examined. Additionally, she had a roommate who was smoking in the room. She would keep 2 cans of air freshener near her bed and when we walked into the room saying "it smells like cigarette smoke in here" - she would begin spraying away. I was told by staff that they asked her if she was indeed smoking in the room and she said "no". So apparently that was that. ;-( Turnover seems very high. While there, the cook was fired or quit- [name removed] was in the kitchen making sandwiches for dinner - She had to wear many hats and worked very long hours. I feel [name removed] genuinely cares and does her best. I understand she is now the Director- so hopefully things will change. If the company continues to pay low wages and hire whatever walks through the door it would be hard for anyone to turn this into a gold choice.
