Do Your Homework before moving here

My parents moved to Red Hills about three and a half years ago. It was the best place in town then but has continued to go downhill. The food was good initially but has continually gone downhill since. Many residents complain about it but nothing changes. The home office sent a manager down a few weeks ago and he stayed in his laptop computer all the time and didn’t even attend the community meeting to hear complaints about food and other problems. My mom’s apartment is so bad she has to keep Damp Rid bags in both closets to keep the moldy musty smells out. Her neighbor has the same problem as I’m sure many more do as well. They have no seated service dining even though they have said for three years they were going back to that. They force all these folks, many of whom have walkers or wheel chairs to go through a buffet line and carry their own trays to their table. They have one maintenance man for the entire property and he can’t keep up with all the issues.

A terrible experience

Do not be fooled by the beautiful grounds. The terrible management erases anything positive about this place. I just moved my mother out after four months because of a series of negative interactions with staff. 1). Management would walk into her apartment without knocking or without prior notice. Naturally, this is a huge invasion of privacy, and she was genuinely frightened that someone random was going to walk in at any given time. 2). Her “housekeeper” actually told her that she was also a realtor, and she took my mother off grounds to look at houses. She had her “attorney cousin” get my mother’s bank info so they could see if they could sell her a house. My mother was afraid for this housekeeper to return to her apartment. 3). When we moved in, my mother was told to select a paint color because they had to paint in between tenants. Now that we have moved out, they have charged her $[removed] for the shade of white she chose. I could go on. The grounds are pretty. People awful.

Make sure you understand exactly the operation of this facility. My wife and I visited Pebble Springs in Lady Lake Fl. in August of 2023. Our experience started off well until we signed a rental agreement. We felt pressured into to signing a contract as the sales person kept saying how they were filling up fast with people moving in. We signed the contract (rental agreement), paid $[removed] upfront to cover security deposit, rental and other fees but we kept thinking that maybe we acted too quickly. We called them within 18 hours of signing the contract and talked to the sales people and asked for a refund but we are told it is not their decision. They have referred us to a person called [name removed] but we can’t seem to get him to call us back. We are posting this to let people know to be “very careful” when dealing with the company that runs Pebble Springs. If we can get a positive resolution from this company we will post it here.

Traumatized

Horrifying experience here. Got thrown out the front door for bringing in my 4 LB. Yorkie in my backpack to visit my mom. Im 62 and The worst part is, my poor special needs brother was trying to hold her and didn't understand the dog needed to be " hidden" from a dog hating resident. They ([name removed]) lie to get you in, tell you its fine to bring the dog in, then tell you that you are "breaking the rules" . Nothing in writing! I was traumatized incredibly. My 87 yr old mother is sick over this and we are moving her out as fast as we can. They were NEVER clear on the "rules", nothing in writing. The corporate site says small dogs welcome. I was able to sit in the dining room with my 4 LB Yorkie in a stroller, with sales manager [name removed] blessing. Then they tell me on wed that only service dogs with papers can come in. Of course this rule just happened to go into place. The day before, [name removed] told us they were having meetings to explain to the residents why emotional support dogs were fine

I live here andI am telling all retired people : I am so disappointed living here the things they promise are not here! We do not feel safe, we do not have activities as promised, things that are not working are not fixed, and we are going to move out! For example: today is friday and no one is in charge til ? No one can help us and the gates are open and we are not secure. We moved here for safety and like companship. We are not getting what we signed up for and we are paying [amount removed] a month.

Look elsewhere

My mother has been living at Robinwood for 4 years. At first this was a lovely place. Food was good, activities etc. It has totally gone downhill. The food is horrible, bad managers that have since been fired. Hopefully new managers will be better. If things do not change, especially the food, we will be finding a new home for my mom. If you’re looking right now I would look elsewhere. I ‘m going to give staff a 5 since bad management is gone. Everyone is friendly it’s more that the food is horrible.

BAIT AND SWITCH

Family members residing at Capital Oaks. Amenities were at time of contract Shuttle free for appts and shopping excursions, 5 days a week. If unavailable Uber available at cost to Capital Oaks. Shuttle now very limited for appts; not 5 days a week. Uber cost now on occupant not Capital Oaks. A professional chef supposed to provide meals. Line cooks cooking. Meals are very small in quantity and disgusting. Leftover food rebranded into a “new” meal several times a week. This is not the food described in their brochure or menus from a professional chef. 3 options available for dining service to include delivered to room on china with silverware in uniformed server. (Notice brochure online). Meals delivered in styrofoam and even contained flies in meals. Dish TV service is out with every cloud that passes overhead. Prices raised $500/mo this past year, yet services have diminished or remained the same. Understand a new Capital Oaks in area just opening. Buyer be ware!

Management problems

After the many communication issues with management, I moved just a few months after moving into Vickery Rose Retirement in Roswell GA. The issues were constant and my family grew frustrated quickly with the management. My place was not cleaned for several weeks after moving in because they "forgot to add me to the list" and the washer and dryer that were promised to me in my contract were not delivered until right before I moved out. These are just two examples of many communication issues. It is poorly managed.

Management Issues

I moved my father into Vickery Rose a few months ago and it's been exhausting staying on top of things. It has been an incredibly frustrating experience for me and I'm moving my dad out. A few examples of my experience: He was promised a washer and dryer, weekly cleaning and several other services in the contract but months after he moved in - I'm still asking weekly about his washer and dryer. When they finally brought the washer and dryer after several months- they let me know it was being delivered minutes before they wanted in the apartment! I had to continually ask why his apartment was not being cleaned... over a month after he moved in they finally got around to coming by weekly. From the start - all of the initial things to get him settled in were put on me. No one told me about the moving carts or key card access to move more easily, or where trash is... I've continually emailed and called to ask management to contact me and they can't be reached.

Because People Flush Items Down The Toilet And They Turn Off The Water To Fix The Problem, Other Residence Who Live There Are In Your Business And If You Need To Talk To The Manager, Not Happening, I Have Tried On Several Occasions To Talk To The Manager, But To Get To Her You Have To Go Through The Assistant Manager, But Every Time I Was Told She's Busy, And There Also A Female Resident Who Lives There, I Have Seen Her Sitting At The Assistant Manager's Desk When The Assistant Manager Is The Restroom.

Very disappointing

This place is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. The reason I only give it 1 star is because we had an unfortunate situation where my mother fell and broke her hip a week after we had put up $3466.00 for her to move in the first of June. We contacted them immediately to let them know about the injury and to let them know that we could not move her in as planned because she would need a few months of rehab and the fact that her alzheimer's diagnosis was a great concern that we would appreciate a refund. (They are not a memory care facility) They would only refund $1733.00 of our money! I felt that regardless what their contract says about refunds. Our situation should have been viewed differently due to a unforeseen situation that we had no control over. My mother is not well off and every penny counts.. It has been a real hardship for our family and I was greatly disappointed in Red Rock for not being a little more compassionate and understanding .

Horrible management, would not recommend

Our experience with Stone Oak Retirement was a very poor one. The facility itself is fine, and the general staff were friendly, but the management is horrible. They only want "ideal" residents, and if your loved one shows any sign of needing extra help there's no working with them to figure out a solution, they just ask you to leave. I really would not recommend it just based on how inflexible and unfriendly the management staff is.

I had to write this commit due to the fact when I entered the front doors of this " WONDERFUL ESTABLISHMENT" As I see others writing about first of all the staff had to write those things because no one else would go in and talk about this place as they have . I went in and talked to the people that live there and they told me some stories that would make you run and run fast !! First of all the turn over of employee's is horrible and the "Chef" that one person wrote about well he walked out because the people that manage this place are Rude, Pushy, and always on the employee's. Now remember all of this is coming from the residents that live there. I would not put my parent's here after seeing first hand the uncaring ways the upper management handle things. I had one very nice woman ask me if she could help me and show me around she was the only one that did not work there she said but does work for an agency , And they provide care for who ever needs it and I explained to her some of my concerns and she said to me Sir , I can tell you this is a very nice place and the people are very pleasant here and she apologized for all of what I told her and assured me this was a good place I told her if you were the manager than I would put my parents here because i can see the passion she has for these little elderly people and how much they know her and love her. I would not come back here and who ever owns this place needs to get on the ball and have a good look at who and what works for him.

America's Next COVID-19 Hot Spot

In the midst of a global pandemic, the facility will not have residents wear a mask when in common spaces, despite advice from the CDC and direction from the Governor. The straw man argument that the "entire facility" is their home is jeopardizing the lives of hundreds of people in a high-risk population. Humanity aside, it endangers the profits and reputation of the facility and the company that owns it. They don't seem to care about either. Requiring masks when in the public spaces is the most caring, compassionate, and sensible thing a place could do. They are neglecting to do the bare minimum and it's shameful.

BAD PLACE FOR THE SENIORS

This is not a place for your love one. The summer is coming and the forth floor has no a/c. This has been going on for three or four weeks now. The hallway is extremely long and there is only two elevators. So why do you have individuals on walkers or wheelchairs on the forth floor when the only other way out is the stairwell. This place isn't good for anyone but more so for a senior citizen.

EMERALD OAKS COMMUNITY Dishonestly Marketing Elderly Health Care

Emerald Oaks Retirement Community (Senior Living) used misleading marketing techniques to promote 24/7 onsite doctor/ nurse medical team services. In fact their website states: "...We always have a doctor on call to handle adjustments in medication, continued consultation, and urgent medical needs when they arise." Emerald Oaks promoted these services as essential for them and the medical team to process the application for Long-term Health Care on our behalf. When in fact, Emerald Oaks is "NOT" a licensed Long-Term Care Facility. First alert... When I had a little trouble getting out of the car and asked for some help the front desk concierge told us to "Call EMS (911)!" When asked; "can you get someone from the medical team? The response was; "the medical team does not work on the weekend." Not long thereafter, I was subjected to the lack of medical assistance again, for a COPD breathing treatment and they called 911! An ambulance paramedic gave a breathing treatment - returning breathing to normal - but took me to Baptist Hospital where I was admitted without any records as a 'new patient' with 'new doctors.' Beware, this can happen to the best of us. I am a retired Professor and Physician, MD, DRPH, MPH. When it comes to trust in health care providers, reliability and proficiency are vital. As you will see elderly health care comes at a high price. Published Elderly Patient Medical Studies have resulted in new standard protocols to avoid unnecessary expose of elderly patients to hospitalization, repeated assessments, or changes to medications, needless testing procedures and exposure to hospital contagions. A team of 'Unfamiliar New Cardiologist' gave their 'New Patient (Me) a 'Beta Blocker', whose heart rate went down to 30 and stopped! After reviving me two cardiologist informed their new patient of repeated heart-stopping caused by the Beta Blocker and recommended surgery to insert a "pacemaker!" While heart-stopping episodes continued on a daily basis, Tramadol, an opioid which contains codeine and morphine; resulted in a near medically induced comatose state, the inability to speak, to concentrate, confusion, unusual weakness, plus loss of control of bodily functions. Codeine and morphine are listed as drug allergies on patients' medical records for nearly 30 years. In summary, 1. Patient remained in speech therapy for about 6 weeks, even after hospital discharge. 2. Patient's right arm and hand became dysfunctional, inflamed, burgundy in color, edematous with severe pain due to prolonged IV insertion. The damage appears permanent and disabling. 3. Patient's bed sores were painful and perplexing throughout hospital stay. 4. Patient developed pneumonia the last week of extended 30 day hospital exposure. Emerald Oaks and the medical team failed to provide 24/7 service as originally promoted and promised. As for 3 meals per day... I missed them too. Additionally Emerald Oaks kept our deposit. Emerald Oaks management and the Regional Director of the Medical Team readily admitted to the use of 911 Public EMS as essential for their risk mitigation strategy to avoid liability. Further stating it is a common practice throughout the industry. Emerald Oaks Staff uses the Medical Team to promote Emerald Oaks Long-term Health Care Services; when it is in fact "NOT a licensed Long-Term Facility, providing 24/ 7 Doctor and Registered Nursing Services?" At the very least, it also appears to be an exploitation of San Antonio's public Emergency Medical Services (EMS) by corporate health care providers and its improper abuse of taxpayer's public funds to avoid responsibility.
