My experience in the beginning when we had taken the tour was good but when the time came to drop our mother off things were different. She was not being showered wearing clothes that weren’t hers had fallen out of bed 3x each time being assured they would do something well the last time she endured a hip fracture and and OLD wrist fracture would never ever recommend Linden Village. My mother now will never walk again gets around now in a wheel chair

When we went into the community, they promised a lot of things. As long as your loved one can do things on their own, and know what is going on...the community is great. If your loved one can't assist themselves, then the community won't help. The community left my loved one alone in her room. They didn't help my loved one feed herself, do her laundry, clean her apartment. My loved one's room was like a cyclone had hit the room, when I was finally able to get in. There were clothes everywhere, no sheets on the bed, food everywhere, she smelled, her eyes and nose were crusty. I couldn't believe it. My loved one hadn't been out of her bed for almost a week. There were things missing. I couldn't even speak to the community the day I was able to see my loved one's room. My loved one ended up passing the night I decided to take my loved one home. I blame the doctor and the community for this development. Come to find out the doctor wasn't even seeing my loving one. The doctor gave my loved one six months to live, about a month before my loved one passed. I feel the caretakers were spiteful. The staff were getting frustrated with my loved one. They would take approximately 25-30 minutes to go see my loved one. They didn't know what she was using her buzzer to get their attention or other assistance. They didn't seem to care. The community refused to allow me to go in to pack my loved one's properties. I didn't get to go in. The community through things into boxes and they didn't wrap anything of my loved one's items. Her items were broken, tangled, and there was a special jar that was missing. There was also a basket container that was missing. They rushed in getting the room cleaned out. They didn't care about my loved one's items. Her clocks and music box were wrapped properly in her clothes. I wish I would have taken pictures of my loved one's room when I was there. I wouldn't recommend the community to take care of my dog. I tried to talk to the manager in change, she kept assuring me that they were taking care of my loved one.

I would not recommend this community at all. They didn't have enough staff. People were always in my loved one's room, and didn't have any supervision. The food I brought in for my loved one, was stolen along with her clothes. They cancel activities all the time, and didn't have structed activities. They put I love Lucy on every night. There were several behavior issues in the unit, that my loved one was in. There was a resident who kept coming up to my loved one and touching them. The administration would put on a good front, and was friendly. The nursing and staff weren't even a qualified MA on each unit. The staff was more like food service qualified. They didn't have any memory care training as it appeared. They couldn't keep anyone.

My family and I went to tour and the community was very clean. They knew we were coming and cleaned. Then the care went downhill after my loved one moved in. You could smell urine from the moment you walked in all the way down the hallway. The staff never emptied the trash. The nurse said that it wasn't my job, that is the third shift's job. My mom fell and the community said they didn't know what happened. She was bruised on her face and black and blue down to her collarbone. The head nurse was lying for the nurses. Once when my loved one's insurance called because they were worried that my loved one's blood pressure medication hadn't been ordered in over a month. The nurse and head of nursing said that wasn't right because I gave that to her on Sunday. The head of nursing, stated she didn't know who was supposed to order the medication for my loved. [name removed] who was in charge of activities was wonderful. She was correcting the residents to make sure the residents had their walking assistance (wheelchairs, cane, walker).

Arden Courts was depressing, it smelled of urine and the residents all looked like they were walking dead. I realize it is exclusively a dementia and Parkinson's site but I would never consider placing my mother here.

In the process of talking to attorneys and reporting this facility to the state for lack of care my mother received at this facility... in less than 3 months she lost 7% of her body weight, had bruised wrists, was medicated up and suffered a fall fracturing her Pelvic ring. She went from being only having dementia although physically fine to a wheel chair wearing diapers and not being able to feed herself in less than 3 months at this facility before we removed her. This facility doesn't follow HIPPA laws or Legal procedures for POA & Guardian Guidelines.

This was not an appropriate facility for my mom, we were looking for short term respite while I went on vacation. The rooms are so small that there was no way to place her wheelchair next to the lounge chair to do a transfer (we tried). The bed is pretty much right next to the door. There is no shower in the room, everyone uses a single shower down the hall. There is no TV in the room. The only TVs are in lounge areas which had no comfortable chairs for my mom to sit in. The chairs were either overly hard slider rockers that she can't even transfer into, or very oversized cushioned chairs that were so large she could not sit back into it. There was an activity going on in the activity room but they also had a TV blasting very loudly in the same room. Also most of the residents there were not in wheelchairs, and when I asked an aide what's the worst physical condition of a resident she's had to work with (to see if they could handle my mom), her answer was just "oh, they're all good" then a confused look, which doesn't provide any confidence that they could handle my mom's current condition.

At first I thought this place was a godsend but after two years I am anxious and concerned about my mom's well being. The staff can be caring and kind, however they seem to be stretched very thin and I have noticed a lot of turnover. They do the bare minimum of keeping your loved one fed properly and cleaned. The corporate line claims that Arden Courts sees each resident as an individual and will cater to their particular needs, but I have come to know that this is not true. I have witnessed agitated residents being yelled at to "quiet down and just watch TV" by staff. I've also seen a resident fall out of their chair and be in high distress, a caregiver nearby but too busy with the dinner service to help. The resident was on the floor for a couple of minutes distressed and struggling. My mom has had ingrown toenails, has been put in double diapers, and developed a nail fungus. Her diet has caused severe constipation and led to painful hemorrhoids. She is often in clothes that are not clean. In my experience, the Executive Director does not respond well to the concerns of family members when approached for help. Her manner is defensive, obstinate and cold. She seems more concerned with appearances than the actual substance of meaningful care. Perhaps this location did a better job in the past.

I thought this atmosphere was very depressing and was not impressed at all with what they had to offer for my mother. The building was very old and run down and all of the furniture seemed aged and dated. They just need a lot updates and improvements throughout the entire property. I also thought it was crazy what they where charging because it was the same price as some of the newer assisted livings that where a lot nicer.

The Executive Director will promise that they can take the most complex patient and turn their symptoms around. This is not true. My relative was not sleeping at all in a bed during the night. That hasn't changed. Has declined since he got there, and can no longer walk much. There are only 2 caregiver's per 16 patients, unless someone calls off. The other night there were 2 caregivers for 60+ patients. The communication between staff doesn't exist. (we had to tell the nursing staff not to crush medication that was a time release medication, something nurses should know). Whenever a new MD order came in, the caregivers (who are not nurses) weren't aware, nor the nurses. The caregiver my relative has, doesn't engage any conversations with the patients, nor even smile. It's the visitors that talk with the patients. My relative has fallen 13 times since being admitted there, with multiple lacerations, bruising, swollen extremities and hospitalizations. Their solution to us is to hire a 24hour caregiver from a home service to stay with the patient all the time. Well, after paying $6,500 a month plus medications and supplies to stay at Arden, who has money for a caregiver from an agency, which cost $20-25/hour in addition.. (The home is not covered by medicare, nor outside caregiver agencies,), it's all out of pocket. The 2 caregivers are supposed to do everything for the patient, but they don't have time, as they also have to do all the laundry and wash the dining room floor and do the dishes. The caregivers complain of the lack of help and lack of raises. They are to check the patients every hour when the resident is inside and every 15minutes when they are outside. This does not occur. They will tell you is absolutely does, but it doesn't. It takes 2 caregivers to give each patient a shower, so during that time, which is longer than 15minutes, the other residents are by themselves. The nurses are unlike hospital nurses. There is no urgency in care here. They take a residents blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate and weigh the patient only once a month. So it is not a daily visit, other than giving them their medications. The family has to point out all the new symptoms, pain, that they should call the MD, what medications they should give them. Initial meeting with the Executive Director make everything sound wonderful. You fill out forms so they can know what is best for your family member and to personalize. But no one knows or looks at this, or follows it to form a plan of care. No one seems to know! Our family even had another family meeting to go over all our complaints and issues, and we were told 'they would handle it', and 1 month later, things still weren't done, and they forgot we had told them. The concept of the memory care being free roaming for the residents and the layout is great, except for the tile floor in the Bistro (too hard for falling patients). They know how to redirect patients while keeping them calm and not elevating they to combativeness. Also, once a resident becomes a 2 person assist on a regular basis, they can no longer stay at Arden. We will be moving my relative out.

The atmosphere was cold and uninviting. The staff did not appear to be well trained on how to approach residents with dementia. The staff was loud when attempting to re-direct behavior rather than calm and soothing. I saw residents that were not engaged in activities nor engaging with each other. I am a veteran teacher and when I see an environment like this, it is a reflection of poor leadership and lack of direction or purpose.

Although I have nothing but praise for the staff that cared for my husband until his passing, the doctor who signed his death certificate listed Parkinson's as cause of death. My husband never was diagnosed with Parkinson's. I cannot recommend this facility as a business. Administratively, Silverado is a nightmare. They are priced higher than other assisted living facilities here, but I was promised the best possible care. As soon as I signed on, I learned that in order to REALLY get the best possible care, I needed to pay for a number of additional services--PT, OT, one-on-one, etc. Every time I spoke with an administrator, another additional service was recommended. All were expensive, some were ridiculously inappropriate, and I had to refuse them, due to the cost. My husband fortunately had long term care insurance. I paid Silverado for 42 days when he first arrived at Silverado. In order to recover the money from the insurance, a receipt for payment has to be sent to the insurance company. I have called Silverado at least a dozen times, the insurance company has called them twice, and in spite of the fact that I have been reassured by phone and by email that the fax had been sent, nothing's actually been done. I can't even imagine how difficult to deal with this would be for a care-taker who is frail and overwhelmed. My husband passed away 3 months ago. Whether I'll ever see the $3600 I'm owed remains to be seen. The irony is that Silverado owes me no money, they simply have to fax a receipt to the insurance company!

I was satisfied that I was given numerous places to check out for my Uncle by "A Place for Mom." However I did not appreciate my phone number and email address given to these numerous places without my knowledge or permission. I kept trying to explain that my elderly Uncle needed more care than an assisted living facility, but kept getting pushed to check them out for him regardless. Finally we did choose an assisted living facility, Arden Court in Livonia, MI., in the memory care section, even though my Uncle does not have a problem with dementia or memory problems. He has no one to communicate or socialize with because the residents there have serious memory, dementia, or Alzheimer's problems. My Uncle is terribly miserable, and we are struggling to find him another place to live. Plus, we have to give them a 45 day notice before we can remove him from this facility. Otherwise we still have to pay them rent! And please do not contact me to help me find another place. I would not recommend your service to anyone else. Your employee completely disregarded my Uncle's needs and recommended a place that does not meet my Uncle's needs. The staff does not seem to go out of their way by any means to help, engage, encourage, or assist anymore than they have to.

[removed]. The Care Givers are certainly a very caring group. It is unfortunate that the management staff doesn't show enough appreciation for the work they do. They surely are the most under appreciated group at the facility. Often times they are left working shot handed due to staff shortages or someone calling off. The Care Giver turnover indicates a lack of support for group. The kitchen staff does a very good job and prepares some very good meals. NOW, to the management staff. Some of their directions to the "worker bees" are, at times, show a lack of undestanding what needs to be done. The nursing staff have offices which keeps them from seeing what is happening on the floor. One can learn more by observing than by sitting behind a desk. The Executive Director shows a lack of compassion in dealing with family members. There is never enough time to communicate with families. She has given notice to three families to send their loved ones to another facility. Whether or not this was a directive from corporate headquarters, the fact is that she carried out those directions. If she wants to espouse her nursing and Christian values now, how is it that she ignored them for so long?

Please, please do not consider moving your loved one here until you are certain there has been a complete overhaul of leadership. Leadership has shown time after time that they are not suffciently knowledgable in terms of how to intervene appropriately with symptoms of disease progression, nor are they sensitive to the tremendous grief families are experiencing. It was a nightmare. In another facility now, and blown away by how much stress has been lifted from my loved one and our family- because we are surrounded by competence.
