It's great on everything, but the food. The food is terrible!

It's great on everything, but the food. The food is terrible! It's not prepared right, and it's so bad, that we may have to move. When we came and toured, we ate there three times and it was great. The chef left and they hired a new chef and everyone complains. They need to pay for a better chef. The portions are so small, it's not enough, and she doesn't eat that much to start with. The place is clean and the people are great. The rooms are nice, but there is no room for a kitchen or anything to cook on, even for an emergency. They serve breakfast by eight o' clock and that's too early, then lunch is at 12:30 and dinner is at 5:30 and they are much to close together. Everyone complains about it, and they don't seem to care to fix it.

Over priced , Under Delivered on Service

The first 90 days of "care" as sold were not delivered as promised. Although the administrator promised particular services, the commitment was not conveyed to the care staff. Communication from the corporate office to correct the past errors was surly and transactional. More attention has been given to the wall paper, paint and rugs, rather than improving the food choices. On the positive side, there are many activities. My family member enjoys the variety of choices and the company of the residents and staff.

Level of care dropped

In the beginning it wasn't bad, it was kind of decent but then the level of care really dropped and he got dperessed so that's why we moved my father. The last time we went there and we finally decided to move him, we went and we walked in the room and his room smelled really bad, like old man smell. I walked in the door and said "Oh we need to open up some windows!" The smell just hit you. They weren't washing his clothes, he would go down and eat and come back to his room and lay down until it was time to eat again. It was the same things every day and when we asked him what he had bene doing he told us there was nothing to do there.

When You Run Out of Money You're Out

They go by The Terrace but their sign says The Classic. It's more like take your money and when you run out of money we don't have space for you and we don't have what you need. My father was there and he was appropriate but as soon as he qualified for medicaid he wasn't appropriate anymore. Their level of licensing is lower so they don't have as much knowledge of dementia.

We chose this community because the Alzheimer area is new and was very secure during our visit. We paid $5,600 dollars and my father was only there two days. He got out and ended up in a local hospital. We thought this location was really safe and secure but my father proved our thoughts to be wrong. We are now talking to them about getting some of our money refunded and they do not call back. This happened over a month ago and we have yet to receive a callback about any refund. We are very disappointed in this community and would not recommend it to anyone. We thought we would be at ease with my father’s care and we ended up worrying more.

The community is nice as it was set out to be however I feel like the corporate angle of things are not going well. I have only been here for a few month and they have had a few managers a lot of turn over in the dining area and some of the people from the cleaning people have left also. Some of them have been replaced but it seems worse off than before they left. The level of getting things done is not good right now. They have the opportunity to be a great place it is just that the management is not up to par at this time.

Going to get her a new bed for her back. Just wondering,. Is It a waste of time or should I just take her with me to get better care. She is meek and kind to everyone there. What should I do. HELP. Do not move your loved ones here

If you want a place where the nurses treat the family like they are bothering them, where the staff will blatantly lie to you, then this is the place for your loved one!! We were lied to about them checking on my MIL after she fell while on the phone with us. The aid said she checked on her but didn't. They administered medication incorrectly & lied about it. You pay all that money and get that kind of care. The staff very rarely smiles. We've moved to a place where the staff not only smiles, but interacts & cares for the residents. So glad we're out of there.

Not the Last Stop for Your Loved One

Our mother, age 96 at the time, was one of the original residents in the assisted living area of The Bridges when the facility opened in Spring 2017. Not long after she moved in, the Director [name removed] was pushing for her to be placed into the Memory Care unit, when she really pretty functional at about a level 2-3 of the disease, and not ready for that extreme level of care. After about 1 1/2 years, she had dropped to about a level 4, and we made the decision to move her to the Memory Care unit, where she quickly went downhill both mentally and physically. She wanted to stay in her room and rest (age 97) rather than be forcibly locked out of her room all day for all meals and to deal with the noisy conversation, multitude of activities, and physical intrusion by more severely ill patients. Unfortunately, she fell several times, the last fall resulting in a brain bleed that dropped her into near end-stage dementia. Any one who has read anything about this horrible disease knows this stage is marked by aggressive behavior, mood swings, and poor sleep patterns / muscle control. As all this was happening, we were told by both the Director and the then-head of the Memory Care unit that our mother's behavior was the EXCEPTION to anyone's else's they ever encountered in their years of dealing with Dementia patients, when we as her family knew this was actually classic textbook behavior for this level. They refused to deal with her and told us to get round the clock aides to watch her, which more than doubled our monthly cost for the apartment. In addition to trying to accommodate the demands of this facility, we had to deal with the completely unaffected head of the Memory Care unit, who was so lacking in compassion for my mother and us, and made it a point to call my sister daily, many times more than once, to report her aggressive behavior (not unlike getting a call from the school principal!). Once our mother's level of cognizance diminished, it was quite obvious that The Bridges was not a place to give proper care to anyone suffering from advanced Dementia, even though they advertise to care until end stage. This review is to warn prospective caregivers and families that this will not be the last stop for their loved ones, and their policy in the Memory Care unit of locking very elderly and mentally disabled people out of their rooms all day to be in a full time "community" setting where a few low skilled aides can keep an eye on them and force them to do crafts is not a suitable environment for everyone; each resident needs to be treated as a worthy individual, not an inmate. This is truly sad, as anyone knows that a change in environment is detrimental to Dementia sufferers, and if forced to move from Bridges to a nursing home can be traumatic at best, and in many cases such as our mother's, result in her great suffering and imminent loss.

However, attributing to her lack of participation in many of the social activities (she was 96 and did not have the energy to be involved in so many events each day), the the Director of the facility deemed her as a candidate for the memory care ward, and tried to push her into that unit within the first few months of her arrival, despite the fact that at that time she was still in the "bridge" stage of dementia. We resisted the move until it became truly necessary about 1.5 yrs later, when she was in stage 4 of the disease; her treatment in this unit of the facility was poor at best, as the staff was truly uneducated about the plain fact that she was cognizant enough to not want to be in the same room all day with the more severely disabled and intrusive occupants of the unit. (So you are aware, the policy for the memory care unit is to lock residents out of their rooms ALL DAY to supposedly encourage socialization, but believe it is driven by the fact there is a small staff and they want everyone visible in a central location.) So my mother withdrew more to her apartment for peace and quiet. This disturbed the head of the memory care unit greatly, and her reaction concerned us as her family, when it was quite obvious no one at her advanced age and level of tiredness could sit out in this very noisy central gathering area all day with no naps or rest time! Unfortunately the story gets worse, as within a couple of months in the unit, my mother fell several times, with the last fall resulting in a head trauma severe enough to knock her down to stage 6. Her behavior, very typical of this near-end stage, was more aggressive physically and verbally, with lashing out, hitting, crying, etc; the head of this unit and the Director of the facility then called us into a meeting to announce that our mother was the out of control "exception" to anyone they ever encountered in dementia care, when we as the family knew it was very typical behavior patterns for anyone at this stage. They demanded we get full time aids as they could not deal with her--this was truly baffling, as The Bridges clearly states on their website to care up through end stage dementia; the fact that they could not and more importantly, would not, was so disheartening, and the fact they told us our mother's behavior was exceptional was not only untrue, but utterly revealing in their lack of knowledge about this disease. The last thing you want to do is move someone in that stage to another facility when every move is traumatic for them. So we hired full time aids and still received multiple calls every day telling us of our mother's bad behavior (not unlike a school principal), as if anything could be done at this point! In addition, the head of the unit was absolutely so void of compassion and had such an acute lack of education about dementia, it was shocking. If we had known this facility was not able to take care of my mother through to end stage dementia as promised, we would have never moved her there. Please note this will not be your loved one's last stop if suffering from memory illness.

Beware, Minimal Staffing, Horrible Food Service, Mixups

Mom is safe there and able to get assistance from a call button. Sometimes it takes too long. The food has gone downhill. A corporate dietician determines meals. Now using a menu system. No written menu. Witnessed nursing aides telling residents what is on menu, 2 main choices with alternative being a hotdog, hamburger or deli sandwich. Last time I saw mom eating one of their sandwiches the bread was so stale she was having difficulty holding the sandwich without it falling apart. One night they were offered entrees of pizza or turkey pot pie (Amish style). Mom chose the pizza as did the other 2 ladies and a side salad. The salad bowl was very small, the size of a desert bowl you may see at a all you can eat place. The pizza was 1/2 of a frozen personal size pizza, served cold and cold after reheating. All ladies complained. One telling me the food there is lousy and wont do any good to complain. "Dietician" is not providing balanced meals. Diebetics shouldnt be having a meal of carbs and lettuce. Normal dining room staff gone, aides taking meal orders, serving and cleanup. Think there is a staffing issue. No Director yet. And management team changes. 2 people have been there for the time my mom has been there. Others in nursing, overall Director, Activities Director, and Marketing Director have changed several times. Problems with coordination of medications between facility and OMnicare has not been resolved after repeated attempts with both parties. And mom is being charged for their mistakes. Have had issues making sure mom's care has been provide correctly from the beginning. Mom had no running water to take a shower and then no hot water in first week. One aide has been repeatedly rude to mom, one ignored moms page when she fell recently and was standing outside her door, one pulled off mom's sheets from her bed as a way of encouraging mom to walk to her meals and returned them without laundering them. More and more problems. With the change in personnel in critical positions, difficult. They also keep all records manually including contact info. Have repeatedly contacted me on the wrong phone number. No database or central computer system for patient records. Have witnessed staff working on records like it was an urgent project. Should be done daily. Moms laundry is not done weekly like she is paying for it to be done. What I have heard from other family members, they have transferred family members to Broadmore becuase of the same thing happening elsewhere. When I read positive reviews I can only assume that family members are not there enough to witness these things or the resident simply doesnt speak up. Someone at mom's table last night told me the food is lousy and doesnt do any good to complain. She ate her pizza cold. Horrible! For rent well over $3000 plus a care package, residents should be offered better meals at the very least.

Not Happy

The food is horrible and the portion sizes are small. My parents have both lost at least 20 pounds since living there. The cook needs to be replaced and they need to get a new source for food. Thanksgiving was a joke. For the price they are paying I would expect top notch food. One of the girls working there needs to have a dress code. She looks like she's been working the streets.

Misrepresented Care

Care services are misrepresented. Information provided by the manager relative to ability to care for my Mother was not accurate. Coordinated services to move Mom from the hospital back to East Lake were horrible. Left in the ambulance for hours returning to East Lake was unbelievable. No medicine, no hospital bed and no personal care components were ready. We had contracted with a local Nursing Home following Mom's last hospital visit but were convinced by the East Lake Manager that they were more than capable of managing her care, obviously not true. Mom died later that night.

Assisted

Emeritus, I've heard did a good job, however, with Brookdales takeover I'd suggest that interested party take a closer look a the assistants provided. We recently, without question, moved my dear father-in-law to a assisted living facility where they understand the definition of assisted. If one should look closely one will find what you get at Brookdale, for over $100- a day, is little more than what you get at and average motel, i.e., room cleaning once a week instead of daily, laundry once a week, and three, average at best, meals a day.

Run don't walk from this property

Wow - where do I begin...we were minimally promised and they have managed to under deliver from there. Staff - the worst aids I have ever encountered. Untrained - no customer service, no real care for their residents, they seem to run the facility as management other than sales people are never around or off site. management: revolving door - my mom has been there for two months now and their have been their directors, two nursing director changes, aids director changes and the best is that they don't work weekends and all management comes in after 9:30 So most activity for aids is between 6:30 and 10:00am and they have no supervisors there... so third world aids that don't speak English - just do not care at all. - Really not a complaint but a verified documented observation for the last 8 weeks. Poor care - poor food - no activities to speak of... and staff all hate each other...

Looks nice but does not provide competent care

The facility is beautiful and clean, but staff can be curt and short to clients who are having adjustment difficulties. More importantly, their nursing staff are undertrained and are definately not equipped to recognize or respond to medical emergencies. When my mom became critically ill, staff did not monitor her vital signs and totally underestimated the severity of her illness, resulting in my mother not receiving the care she needed.

Would not recommend

Facilities were old and air conditioning broke in the middle of summer. No air conditioning for weeks. Elevator from 1st floor to lobby broken for months. So those unable to use the stairs need to be taken out through the basement through a door that was often unlocked which was a safety hazard for residents. The nursing manager was horrible and I got calls from an ER doctor complaining about his attitude and lack of professionalism. We were billed for services after my father had moved out. I often found patients crying in the hallway. They may have had dementia but it was an open ward so.....
