Great staff but not enough, short staffed Not healthy food choices, too much processed foods and not enough for residents, Not all food groups for all meals. Promises outside activities such as bus trips, never seen it. If your loved one has dementia they do little to no interaction.

Not really what I expected

The food the serve to these people is way too 'fancy' And it seems like they serve broccoli veggie mix all the time. The person I have there is a picky eater and they say they offer something alternative. The alternative is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. They never have any cold meat such as ham or turkey to make a sandwich. Staff members are constantly complaining about how busy they are and under staffed. They complain to the person I have there so she feels like she cannot ask them to do anything for her, as they will get mad. I've sat in dining room while food is being served and aids sit at table with residences and are on their cell phones texting instead of helping residences or even talking to them. Went one time later at night and could not find any worker. Finally found two and they were both outside, one was smoking and one was on her phone texting. Overall I'm not very satisfied but feel like making a move somewhere else might result in same issues.

not real happy

My brother has been there a little while and I would have thought that they would have his routine down by now. I have asked repeatedly for certain things, and I just don't get them. For example, I have told them that when they serve him breakfast in his room, they need to open the milk for him as he has arthritis and cannot open it himself. They still do not do that after multiple requests, so he cannot even drink the milk they bring. Any time he buzzes for needing something, it can take an hour before they respond. Some of the staff there (particularly the higher ups) are very friendly, but some of the others act as if they are doing my brother a favor just for doing their job, rather than doing it cheerfully.

Only For The Independent Person

The Lexington is a nice place for seniors who can get around easily. But my Mom was interviewed and accepted there even though she was blind and dependent on almost constant help. Maybe the staff didn't fully understand her dependency, but they did when my Mom fell 5 days after she arrived, and ended up in the hospital and then a rehab facility. When I went to the Lexington to talk to the manager, she told me this was not going to work for my Mom, and gave me a list of other places that would be more suitable. We packed up my Mom's room and checked out, only to be told that we not only owed for the entire month that my Mom was there--5 days!-- but for the following month because we didn't give them a month's notice. They wouldn't budge and we paid, but will not recommend this place to anyone.

Unseen problems

My Mom was accused of wearing the same thing every day, when she has 3 of the same duster. The colors are only slightly different, but the patterns are the same. Also, When another resident was being a bully toward her, there was nothing done to intervene on her behalf. I believe that is because the "bully" was one of the Lexington's wealthier residents and the Lexington did not want to loose her business.

I was not impressed with this community. The building smelled. The staff seemed ok. I got the feeling that you would need to not know who you are when you get here. They were terribly unorganized with things, they didn't keep to their schedules for their activities or menus.

They were terribly unorganized with things, they didn't keep to their schedules for their activities or menus. They didn't have a packet to give new residents with a menu or calandar of activities, or anything, they told me it was posted in the dining room. They didn't keep to the activities schedule, one time they had a welcome gathering, I showed up and it didn't happened, they told me they forgot. They didn't know how to make a bed properly the sheets were kept on sideways. It wasn't that they weren't nice or kind but they were just so disorganized.

Thinking of Moving

The caregivers are wonderful. They are sweet, kind and compassionate. We've had no problems or complaints about the staff except for one person who I understand is no longer working there. I'm not sure about the value being that I'm doing her laundry and part of the cleaning and the food has been less than adequate. My mother-in-law has always had a health appetite and she said sometimes she doesn't even recognize what's on her plate. She's eaten lunch that she thought was some kind of fish and an hour later she threw up. We're thinking seriously of moving her but we paid a $2000 community fee and I would hate to think we would lose that. She's in a wheelchair but can transfer herself. She got up about midnight to go to the bathroom and fell and she laid on the floor for 7 hours and no one checked on her. That's the caregiver that's no longer there. It's not their fault that she fell but someone should have checked on her. I'm just really disappointed. We're having to subsidize food and laundry and change her seats.

[name removed] has been amazing for us and we recently began communicating with her, two weeks ago this score was lower. Cleanliness- stairwells could use some help. Chairs in the lobby are cloth and have many wet spots on them. Quality of care - aside from [name removed] and our cleaning lady, there could be improvement. Laundry is not done most of the time, bedding is rarely changed. Yes, we come every Sunday to help, but most of her needs should be met by staff and that's not consistent. Administrative staff-besides [name removed] , it's hard to get timely responses from Admin. Food - I think it's fine, [name removed] complains that she doesn't care for the food but no specific feedback.

Do not recommend

We moved my mom out of Mount View Lack of security, front door is always open. Anyone can walk in day or night, only one person on staff at night often. That employee could be upstairs helping a resident and anyone could walk in there and no one would know..Mount View went through three Director's while my mother was there. We meet with several of them with some of our concerns. Mount View was consistently short of help The help they did have was very good but they kept getting hours cut. One of the employees moved their mother out due to numerous violations. A Mountain View employee also falsified records, they were supposed to be doing bed checks. We set something up on the back of my mom's door so we would know if someone came in at night after three weeks of no one coming in at night to check. We went to the Director. The food was always an issue. They rarely had fresh fruit and vegetables until we kept complaining. Their idea of a meal was biscuits and gravy. Sometimes they have that three times in a week with no other options. I would not recommend Mount View to anyone.

I call staff and their voicemail is full. They never introduced the new medical director even in their newsletter. I think my loved one is being short-changed on the care my loved one is to receive but I can't be there all the time to watch.

A place for my mother in law

My experience at Desert Springs Senior living has been the worst experience. We went to talk to [name removed] she made the place seem that it was wonderful and that they were here to help. We ended up signing up my mother-in-law. [name removed]didn't offered us to see the apartment room. I had to ask her where the room was and the room #. She went and showed the room but it was not ready to be moved in. I ask her if it was going to be ready for Sunday and she said yes. Sunday came and the room was not ready. I told her I needed to speak to a manager, and it took 2 days to get a call back and that is because I went in to the facility. The food there is always the same thing. They need to have the chef make a different menu weekly. All the management seem that they care but they don't. .

Disappointed

My Mom was a resident here for 2 years. Within the 2 years, many things about Desert View went downhill. The biggest issues were with the food and the staff. It seems that once the upper management changed, the corporation cut every corner they could to save money. The food became completely processed, cheap and packaged. Nothing homemade. The activities became boring, repetitive, and non-engaging. The staff became lazy and uncaring. The upper management are like car salesmen, they tell you what they think you want to hear even though it is not the truth. The building and resident rooms need updated badly. There are many other places in town that you can place a loved one ~ similar in price, cleaner, newer, nicer, more amenities ~ so why choose Desert View...

Our Family's Experience

This place needs help. Most of the time, there aren't any management staff on site. Some of the staff are very friendly and then others are down right nasty. My loved one was in a wing that never got checked. I paid good money to have them administer her meds, but they didn't watch her take them. We found her meds under the cushions, under the sofa, and in the trash can. They yelled at her when I reported it. She called me saying they were mean to her after I called. Her meals were dropped off, and no one watched her eat. They never made her get in her bed, so she slept on her love seat the entire time she lived there. She never showered the entire time she lived there. They couldn't "make her". The story goes on and on. She passed away last May we believe was from natural causes.

Review for Desert Springs Senior Living

They were very friendly and talked a good talk when we were touring the facility. They said you need to be daughters not care givers. We treat our residents like our own family. They left my father in filthy clothes and underwear. They even either did not have enough staff or the staff didn't care! Like I said we were very disappointed. My sister and her husband dropped in several times and Dad was not a priority for the staff it was a terrible experience for us all.

Don’t care about people

When I first put my mom there it was locally owned and they were good. Then they sold to Ensign. After that prices when up a lot and were used mainly to dress up the facilities, not improve the care. When my mom passed away I did not get even a word of condolences and she was there almost 6 years. They disposed of her bed and other things without even asking me anything. It was like - she’s gone so next customer! Kaching! And meds were randomly charged as well. Even after I told them she didn’t need or want things they would still give them to her and charge her insurance or Medicare. And much of the time they don’t answer the phone or return calls. Bottom line - look elsewhere.
