Didn't really like this one. Seemed too big for our Grandma's needs. Rooms were really nice...but I think she would not leave the room to participate in social activities. Staff presented themselves in too laid back a manner...and they said they wouldn't more than nudge a resident to go eat more than one meal a day.

Not Impressed

Father admitted to the Memory care unit about 2 PM and by the time we returned home he had fallen and was taken to the hospital. We then supplied 1:1 caregivers for 24 hrs but Atria said Dad did not need them during the day so we had caregivers scheduled for eves and nights. On the third day he fell again (they were short staffed and did not call us) and was admitted to the hospital for a brain bleed. He was ultimately transferred to Hospice from there and he died about 10 days later. Initially impressed with services they said they offered but did not see these happening again while we were there. Mostly the residents sat in a small area and watched TV. My father was only there for a total of three days. In those three days he was sent to the hospital twice. They wanted me to pay the full fees for admission and the entire month's stay. Avoided phone calls. I had to call corporate office just to get any replies from local Atria. Would Not Recommend memory care unit.

Problems at Atria.....

In a month when (1) the residents were quarantined in their rooms, due to a wide-ranging GI bug, and nobody could go out or come in (without a mask); and (2) there was a flying ant infestation in one wing that displaced residents from their rooms so that exterminators could spray, they actually charged me $3 extra on the monthly rent for a "tray fee". (presumably asking to have a meal brought to the room while rushing out to an event or an appointment.) Rather than giving us a discount for the quarantine days, or the displaced days, Atria decided to charge extra for a very small favor they did! I hadn't wanted to publicize these problems, but just couldn't handle the irony of the increased rent after the inconveniences of the last month.

There are some staff that care about the residents but not all. Starting with the administrators all they care about is making sure they cover up mistakes. None of them really care about the residents or what goes on. The blame is always on someone else. They really need to look into the menus for these residents & get opinions from them--they all complain about the food but it gets ignored. They don't care who they hire to take care of these people as long as they have a body there. A lot of the good employees are overlooked & taken for granted. These residents need more than just a place to live--they need more attention & care for their needs. The building itself is very nice for these residents. The activities are also great-there's a lot to do & the activities director is great with these residents. Its just to bad that the administrators (starting with the director) doesn't have enough compassion for these seniors. They're so sweet & deserve more.

Please remember that this organization is lead by a sales team. Our experience was one of hope in the beginning but due to health concerns of our loved one we did not think this facility could manage the many issues which were going on so we never took occupancy which was a very expensive lesson as no refund was allowed. The staff is very pleasant and friendly. Those residents who we came in contact with seemed very pleased with their surroundings. Please consider carefully the needs of your loved one before signing a contract. There are no refunds. Overall this would be a nice place for someone with minimal health concerns.

Review for Peregrine Senior Living at Onondaga Hill

The food is fine, activities could be better by pulling people out and engaging. My moms at the higher functioning level and not as needy as others. I have heard from others that they are not as on top of making sure residents are showered as often as they need to. my mom is not happy there mostly because she is at a higher functioning level and the people at the lower functioning levels scare her with their behaviors. We are not 100% sold on whether this is the best fit for her, but on the other hand, we know that my mother is not accepting her condition and that it will not improve. She does not understand why she's there.

Beautiful Place but expect healthy residents

Peregrine was a very attractive facility. I made arrangements for my late husband to stay there a few years ago. He was accepted there, and I moved his belongings there from his previous facility. His first day there turned out to be only a few hours. He had a bed sore, and they said he couldn't stay there with a bed sore. They sent him to the hospital and the hospital sent him back to Peregrine. Then Peregrine sent him back to the hospital. He was in the hospital for several weeks while Peregrine held his room. When it was time to go back to Peregrine, they didn't accept him but charged him for two months rent, with a small refund. So he paid a huge sum for only a couple of hours at peregrine.

So sadly disappointed

While the facility is lovely and staff are wonderful, the food quality went downhill shortly after my parent arrived. It seems like a big company came in and bought up the Peregrine and now the food quality is really subpar. It’s so unfortunate.

Disappointed

There were issues after she moved there, sounds like change in how place was being run. Mom's condition deteriorated more so that didn't help either. We had to move her out and into another place several months ago. Peregrine was good to start, but really seemed to fall off, cost was getting excessive for what was actually provided and needed.

Review for Peregrine Senior Living at Onondaga Hill

There was a much higher ratio of patients to staff. There were a few staff members who were wonderful with my mother, but others who were not. They tried to accommodate my mother's vegetarian diet, but we had to bring food to supplement to be sure she was getting enough food/protein. As a whole there's a difference of night and day between our current facility. Not to speak badly of the Peregrine, because the differences also has to do with cost.
