Our visit to Brookdale was fine. It was not too good of a fit for my loved one, in terms of the atmosphere. The atmosphere seemed quite dreary and it was not an especially comfortable place to be. It was fine, but not my favorite.

The Brookdale Tulsa South was not a good fit for my loved one, during my tour, I noticed the place had a bad smell. The place also looked a lot like a nursing home and the residents were all just sitting around in their wheelchairs. The layout was nice, but it was not what we were looking for.

The Brookdale care and administration are friendly, professional and helpful in caring for my family member. The environment is attractive and home-like for the residents and visitors. Her room is maintained in a safe and clean manner conducive for assisted living. The reason for most of my frustration is a perceived lack of communication among staff members. Upon admission the family provides information regarding medical, social, personal and dietary concerns and basic care giving needs. I feel that the level of care presented upon admission is not what the resident may actually receive. Unless the family member is able to question the staff, certain aspects of care may not be given. As in many organizations, there may be a communication disconnect between management and the actual caregivers. Perhaps offer periodic team meetings with administration, nursing, care giving staff and family?

I had a loved one that was at Sterling House of Tulsa South for just a few days, but she then had a fall and had to go into the hospital. That being the case, my experience was very limited. The thing that I don't like is that they bill in advance. I just received a bill today for the month of May and my mother is not even there. They said they would give us a credit, but I have yet to see it. It seems like a fairly decent place overall, but it is very expensive and for the four days my mom was there the price is outrageous. I do like the way the place is designed. It does have a very home-like nice feel to it. But I definitely do not like the billing process. I do not mind paying for services rendered, but I would like them to be rendered first and to pay only for the services actually received.

Kari was very helpful. Mom needs a place with more residents in order to be as social as she is.

My sister only stayed for five days, in respite. Our main concern, was that it sounded good that you age in place before we got in there, but how that worked out was that most of the people who were there were just… just needed more care than we were expecting. There was plenty of parking and the food was decent to good. The administration was very friendly and helpful.

Overall our we've had a very good experience here, and we're glad we found the place. They have multiple houses and we chose to move our loved one into their newest house, which had just opened. One aspect we hadn't considered was that since this was a new house it would also be employees who hadn't worked together before. It was a little rocky and inconsistent to start, but things have settled down now, after a few weeks. Things have been so much easier now that her care is handled by the visiting nurse practitioner, and now that they are taking care of her medication needs. It's a very nice little community, and the staff have all been great.

My dad was in this community for about a month and I had to move him out. I just heard today that [Removed] has left Brookdale and I believe [Removed] has as well. The food was mediocre. They had a courtyard and it was locked down that helped with the memory care. What I hated about Brookdale were additional charges for everything including $47. For smokers. The facility was clean, the staff friendly enough, I did not like seeing my bill different from month to month.

I was able to tour this place and immediately knew this was not going to work out. The place was dirty and it had a smell like a nursing home and not a home. I was just not impressed at all. The staff was nice, but that was all.

This is a very nice facility, but lacking in many areas. This was not a place for my loved one to finish out life because of needing more assistance (memory care). It would have been nice to know that before we moved in. They assured us in the beginning this would be an end of life place for our loved one. Not the case. The food was good. Some of the staff was very nice and helpful. Also most of the time there was not enough staff. There were times that our loved one smelled and was wet. I recommend doing your homework.

Please remember when 'shopping' for a memory care facility - or any assisted living facility - that the facility's main goal is to get you and your loved ones to choose and move into their property. In short, they want your money. Clare Bridge verbally promised services and care that weren't in the written contract and, therefore, were not provided. For instance, they told us light housekeeping was performed on a daily basis, but that service wasn't in the contract, nor was it provided. Once your loved one has moved in to a facility, please make sure you stay involved as much as possible with their care. My mother was at Clare Bridge for 10 weeks before she fell and broke her hip. During that time, members of our family visited with Mom at least 4 times a week. Every time we arrived, there was something missing from her care - her room smelled like a dirty diaper or her oxygen set-up was not done properly, for instance. The staff was always friendly and accommodating when matters were brought to their attention, but we actually worried more about Mom than when she had been in her own home.

We pulled mom out of Glen Carr after 6 months because they used Depakote to treat her restlessness and agitation in dementia. We were shocked to see her change from a generally happy (though restless) woman into a fearful, sedated shell of what she was when admitted 6 months before. Reading "Depakote and Treatment of Agitation in Alzheimer's" by Esther Heerema, MSW, updated January 29, 2020, I learned many facts consistent with our experience. According to multiple research studies, Depakote was no more effective than a placebo in decreasing the challenging behaviors of dementia. These studies also found participants were at a high risk for side effects, including decreased blood platelets, increased agitation, gait disturbances, tremor, sedation and sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Depakote has advantage of flying lower under the radar in nursing home regulations, which are highly concentrated on reduction/ elimination of antipsychotic medications. Can't recommend GC.

I wouldn't recommend the community at all. There is no communication with the family about our loved one, and the staff aren't returning our calls, emails, or messages. If something happens to my loved one during the shifts, I don't find out about it after the shift has ended to be able to speak to the caregivers that were on that shift. The health supplies that I provide for my loved one, are to be lasting 30 days and the community can't tell me where the supplies have gone to after a few short days. The bad part is I can't move my loved one from the community.

They really pursued my loved one when he was at another facility and they knew he was going to be getting placed somewhere. They knew about the type of care he needed and assured us they would be able to monitor him. When he got into some trouble they evicted him and also charged us unfairly for a sitter and demanded our family come to sit with him. They could not prove to us that the sitter was ever even there. It was an incredibly unsafe scenario and they really dropped the ball. We would not recommend Brookdale Tulsa to others looking.

My mother was at this facility and we tried so hard to love it. We moved her in during COVID and could not see her room. After 3 months we were able to visit and realized some of her furniture and things were missing and no one knew where they were. Her clothes constantly got lost in the laundry, her wedding ring disappeared, and things from her room constantly disappeared. From there it was all downhill. Staff is more concerned with their phones than with care for their patients. We were told she would be checked on regularly, but after installing cameras in her room we realized she was hardly ever checked on. Her toilet paper would run out for days before they notice and restocked it. The staff does not speak kindly to the residents and commands them like children. It is not a comfortable and nice place to live.

Okay community, not what we were looking for.

They have good house keeping, but the individual care services need improvements. Sometimes when we go to pick up our loved one for the day they have not been showered.

We wanted to tour this community but were sent a video. There was no contact or follow-up after the video and it made us feel like the community was not inviting.

They do not tailor the activities towards the memory care residents, they are also short staffed. On top of that, sometimes people would call in which would make them even more short staffed. There are always new people coming in. The charge nurse who handles the medication is a big red flag she would get a zero rating. She set up our loved ones medicine wrong. As a nurse myself i know exactly what medicine she would need. They even sent her home for Thanksgiving with medicine that she was allergic to. The staff members are like a revolving door

My mom’s experience here still pains me to this day. She was there during summer of 2020–she was very old when forced to be there. A few very nice personnel but often hard to communicate with, other one not so great. . She was there 6 weeks. She entered with skin intact and left with bedsores, nondescript rash all over face, and the daily hygiene products I sent with her untouched. A very sad experience, particularly because she couldn’t let me know what was happening behind closed doors.
