A Place for Mom has scored Oakmont Management Group with 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 1,233 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Oakmont Management Group has 4,231 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
Positives are that the common areas very clean, the staff are kind and the building and grounds are well maintained. Looks great from a distance. Negatives are it's badly understaffed, difficult to reach management. Very slow to respond if at all. Residents rooms are not secure and residents (my mom specifically) has had belongings go missing in the middle of the night! Also residents are allowed to isolate.

My family and I would not recommend Ivy Park at Playa Vista to anyone any longer. When my mother first moved in, the staff, food, activities & facility were great. After about three months there was a slow change in everything. There was a major turnover in staff (and NOT for the better) and the quality in care, food and activities declined. The individuals who are now in the management positions act like they are only there for the money. Very impersonal. If my mother didn't pass, we would have definitely moved her to another facility. We feel terrible for the families who still have loved ones there.

Bonaventure has a few major problems. The majority of them stem from the fact that their staff is on a revolving door. Everyone is always new and still training, so care tends to be hit or miss. Staff rarely wear name tags, and they don't bother to introduce themselves, so you never really know who you're talking to. The food quality isn't very good, and the portions are usually very small. The tables and arms of the chairs in the dining room frequently have dried food stuck to them. After a recent snowfall, they waited until the next day to shovel the sidewalks, so residents who own dogs and the ones who smoke had to slog through several inches of snow. There is one gentleman who clearly needs assistance eating. They leave him unattended in the dining room for hours after meals. The new nursing director decided that my dad needed help transferring (he doesn't). She was going to raise his care plan charge $[removed]/month. This wasn't so he could call them anytime he needed help. It was so that IF he needed help during one of the times they happened to be there to check on him, they would. They have a memory care unit. (Imagine how disorienting it is for the residents there to have the staff changing continually.) Because of this, all of the exit doors have locks and alarms. The residents have RFID fobs to open the doors without setting the alarms off. The alarms still get set off regularly. When those alarms are set off, what is supposed to happen is that a staff member promptly goes to check to make sure no one from memory care has managed to get out the door. Those alarms will go off for anywhere from five minutes to over an hour before they get turned off. When they do get turned off, staff usually don't bother to look outside to see if there is someone out there. There is a sign on the door to the nurse's station that says that the door needs to be closed and locked when people leave. It's usually left ajar, and I have seen residents rummaging around in there on more than one occasion. My dad was unable to take a shower for three weeks because the end piece of the water dam had come off, so the bathroom floor would flood if he took a shower. After waiting over two weeks, I finally put the piece that needed to be reglued on the front desk with a note asking, again, for it to be fixed. It was finally done the next day. My dad enjoyed their trips to Cripple Creek. The first one he went on, the van broke down, so this group of elderly people was stuck on the side of the road for hours. The next month, they didn't give my dad a calendar of events, so the trip was over before he knew it was happening. He did go on the third one, but after that, they stopped having them. All of the activity rooms are upstairs. There are two elevators, one in each wing. The one for the assisted living wing was out of order for several weeks. So these people with mobility issues had to either hike to the other end of the building, or try to use the stairs. My dad only lived there for five months. In that time, my overall impression was incompetence and indifference. They're expensive for no good reason. there was no housekeeper for the assisted living wing for a couple of months, so rooms weren't being cleaned unless the family did it. Supposedly, the caregivers were supposed to be helping, but they didn't.

During our first visit, we noticed that the staff seemed unmotivated and not very helpful. Make sure to pay attention to the staff when you visit. When we approached the assisted living desk to ask about our mother’s cleaning, bathing, and laundry schedule, we were shoved a three-ring binder with no explanation or guidance. There was no attempt to walk us through the information or answer our questions.

The facility is very old and the company is more motivated in making money than taking care of the disrepair... I have worked with state licensing board to get old frayed hallway carpets replaced that are truly a tripping hazard. The fact that the licensing board had to demand it tells you how motivated they are to do any updating or deferred maintenance. Staff seems nice, but the turnover of their executive team is much like a revolving door. If my Mother wasn't so attached to her friend group I would move her.

The room is tiny. The meals were not as promised for almost a month. The activities were non existent for almost a month. There was no way for her to reach staff for several days after moving in. The staff isn't very attentive. The leadership gives good lip service but everyone is new and isn't aligned. The website is contradictory to the contract in several areas. We still haven't been able to get her hair done. There is a lot.

Everyone was super nice before and during the enrollment and the 1st couple of days but after wards the attention level dropped and so did the care and attention. I do NOT recommend this place at all. They also keep billing you for months after they are no longer there. Once they pass or leave you can not get ahold of anyone nor will they give you a refund. I had to close the account so they would stop charging me.

They routinely lose laundry. Food is basic at best. Hot dogs, instant mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese. They obviously don't have a dietitian to address any eating or health needs. They haven't had an activities director for a while, so 90% of the time nothing is happening. Most everyone is in their room sleeping. This is Not a lively environment. They are short staffed. Pagers go off indication someone is requesting help and she could be off someplace else, with the pager buzzing in their work station unattended. The room are small, typically setup like a bedroom than a living space for family or friends to visit. If you want mom to be bored, this is the place.

My mother (86) has been a resident here for less than 2 months. The initial tour was wonderful. [name removed] was incredibly patient and very helpful. She explained the process and showed us several options for apartments. Facility is clean and contemporary. As a non-resident, I have tried to eat in the dining room several times; the food is disgusting. Unbelievably, the people who live there seem to like it. The dining room service is so slow and the people who work there are covered in tattoos and piercings--servers and Med Techs alike. There is not an orientation when you move your family member in...so tons of things are unclear. The response time when the "pull cord" is pulled is unreliable. I am told "all of these places are like this" and that Ivy in SB is "the best of them". Manage your expectations. I wish I had. THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MED TECHS, [name removed]. SHE'S AMAZING AND DESERVES A RAISE.

Do not move to the Ivy under any circumstances!!! It has declined so much over the past nine years my parents lived there. All its services are poor and is just a money-grabbing, depressing place to live. Now it’s been taken over by a corporate giant that squeezes every drop of money out of its residents. The food and services have become so poor, and with staff turnover, no one takes any responsibility for all of the problems. If you end up needing a caregiver, they double-dip— you have to use their caregivers along with your own. It was costing upwards of $[fee removed] to take care of my mother due to the extra charges. We’ve had to pay for cleaning and laundry that never got done. My mom was bedridden for a while, and they were supposed to come in to check on her regularly, but they did not. Food would be delivered and left in the kitchen where she couldn’t reach it for hours while she waited for someone to come in and give her her meals. The staff is turning over constantly, so no one r

dad's room was near a storage closet for used diapers. the intake staff was wonderful, but I had particular difficulty with one of the aids and had to file a complaint twice. they have great advertising and if they actually cared for their residence the way they advertise it would be great. There is a big disconnect between what they say and actually do. . There administrative staff talks out of both sides of their mouth. It is all about the profit and they don't seem to be aware of what is actually going on. I signed my dad up for activities and they never materialized. it is all about the profit. They don't live up to their claims and they are very expensive. I found much better care for my dad at Care home for much less. When I moved my dad from Ivy Park, he had been on hospice, not end-of-life hospice. So there was a hospice package left for him. Strangely enough, the morphine was missing from the package when he was transferred my dad was never given morphine for anything they had no explanation for it. It's a beautiful facility, but there are too many issues with the administration of care. It is unfortunate

If a family member is looking for independent living for their loved one than I give it a 5. If the family member has any type of dementia or cognitive impairments, and they want to put them in Independent living and they tell you they have someone who watches them, take to meals, etc. I would tell them to find another place that is an assisted living. If I had to rate it, I would give it a 2. And make sure that the facility will take their insurance, If they don't and something happens to their loved one the doctor on staff will not treat them.

This is just an introductory review as my mother in law has only been a resident at the memory care facility at Ivy Park in Huntington Beach for 6 weeks only- however we are extremely concerned that our family has made a bad decision- There seems to be absolutely Zero accountability as the staff is all too willing to "pass the buck"- IE- no off campus activities because driver is sick- What???? How about a Sub?? Same goes for activities- no leader available so no activities- What???? No one is willing to honor or relay to family members exact shower/bathing dates- Thus far it seems frankly horrible and we only hope with another meeting with head staff and if need be Oakmont Senior Management that we will not regret our decision- i will update this post to let you know progress or lack of satisfaction with this facility- Responsible and trustworthy elderly care is vital for our loved ones!!!

The staff to resident ratio is too low. It is a beautiful facility, but gets expensive very quickly if your loved one needs additional help. This facility is suited best for loved ones who are still independent and mobile. If they are wheelchair dependent, the care is less desirable. Also, CNA turnover is high, which makes it difficult for those in memory care.

A family member moved into Ivy Park and we were made a lot of promises like there would be low sodium meals. There would be vegetarian meals that you could eat anytime of day and the experience is different. There are hardly any vegetarian meals. There are probably not any low sodium meals at all. The person cooking didn’t seem to even understand what that meant. And a lot of the staff isn’t as friendly as they could be. they try to rush you out of the dining room when you’re not finished eating, if it’s not in the time that they think it’s appropriate though we were told you could eat anytime of day. the housekeeping has been minimal And indifferent and the housekeepers not very friendly. staff hasn’t really been available when you have a concern you want to talk to them about so I would say that it’s kind of questionable at this point. I’m assuming things will improve as my family member get used to the routine And there are good things.

We find it very disconcerting that 6 key members of the Administrative staff have left in one year's time. They have huge problems with handling any maintenance issues (a small dept. that has lost two key employees). The follow up from Administrative staff is horrible. If moving wasn't such a huge ordeal for my elderly Mother, we would be relocating.
