There are some bugs in the care services that need to be worked out. I'm giving management time to address the family's concerns.

I toured Brookdale Woodside while looking for a community for my mother-in-law, but we found that it did not meet our needs. They only have memory care there, and it seemed to me that it was for people who can’t come around, those that have advanced needs, and I didn’t think she would want to live there. She wanted to feel independent. We wanted the same; we didn’t want her to feel like a prisoner there, so we chose to move her elsewhere.

Though I liked the dedication of the staff to the clients, I was not too fond of the shared room situation. The space of the individuals actual private space was large. Almost too large for my father. It would be too far to the bathroom for him to walk too at night. The actual layout to the main rooms for eating and entertainment seemed too far away from the room available for my father. I saw no way for staff to be able to tell when my father needed help, because of how far the rooms were from the nursing station. The place was a bit big, the pricing a bit confusing and I did not like the shared room situation. My father would hate sharing a room and he would drive his roommate crazy.

I want to specifically praise [Removed] (now gone) for being so friendly and helpful at the front desk. Likewise, [Removed] has been extremely helpful with my mother's transition from IL to AL. My mother has lived at Calaroga for almost five years now. Unfortunately, the quality of service has gone downhill during that time, but with the new Director in place and a new chef in the dining room, things seem to be improving.

i did not get a good insight of the community. It was a brief and short tour. I was showed an apartment but didn't get a sense of the activities during the tour. I also did not get a good feeling, if it were more brief it would have been better.

The community is kept clean and they have activities but at times they don't inform all residents. The staff could improve on being more informative and caring. My mom says her meals are 50/50, and her main complaint is being left in the dining area for 2-3 hours. She eats but has to wait to be returned to her room, this frustrates her. I believe they do provide care and safety.

I thought that the staff really get to know the residents and do try to offer a personal touch and connection with them. There was a lot of turnover though, but we got to know the new people and they seem caring and kind. The billing was always screwed up, but at the end of the day we were just glad she was in a safe place.

The food is what my father use to call "Wisconsin Truck Stop" meaning it was pretty uninspiring. That was the biggest drawback, he lost a lot of weight there. We liked the apartment and the people, but the food was big problem.

We have had some problems with some things being stolen from my mom and had some problems with the staff there in recognizing that she has dementia and often times things are misplaced, but things have definitely been taken and the way they deal with that has not been well. On a positive note I have spoken to the director and I believe things have been resolved in that area. The activities have not been consistent, but they have a new activities director so things will start to stabilize.

The staff is extremely nice. However, they are very understaffed, and that makes a difference. It takes a while at times for things to get done, and the care services can sometimes suffer a little because of lack of being adequately staffed, etc. The food there is also not so good. Not a bad place, and certainly wonderful people, but I just think they need more staff.

We have not been pleased with their ability to promptly provide the adequate care schedule needed for our loved one. After a month and a half, we are still giving the facility an opportunity to improve on this aspect. We have faith that they will eventually be able to provide the care that she needs.

Calaroga Terrace was nice, although under remodel. The elevators were extremely slow and would be a confusing maze for my father. The parking situation is not at all good for visiting families. The memory care area was in need of sanitation because the smell was a little overwhelming. The studio apartments were much smaller than Russellville and the price was a little higher.

We toured Brookdale Eugene Alpine Springs while looking at options for my mother-in-law. I really didn’t like the community. It was so close by. It was also new and beautiful, but it was just so big. We walked through the place, but we could not find any staff. We did find someone to help us eventually, but when we went on our tour, the person who was guiding us did not know the answers to our questions. We also found out that they only want people who are independent, but my mother-in-law needs some supervision. We toured on a Thursday, and I returned on a Monday to hand in some forms and ask a few more questions, but I arrived at the office to a note on the door – NO ADMISSIONS. I tried to find out what the issue was since we had toured so recently, but all I was told was that it was some paperwork issue, and I couldn’t get any other feedback. Overall, our experience here was not positive, and we ultimately chose another community.

Managment is having real problems here. Medication timliness is an issue as well as staff turnover. The management problems trickle down to the residents and make for a disruptive living situation. The staff is not capable and cannot care for residents in a supportive and productive enviornment. Very disappointed.
