happy

we have been very impressed by their understanding of what elders need, and what makes them comfortable. the staff could be better coordinated, the food could be hotter, but the mood is outstanding

Response to Inquiry - Niles

We moved our mom to Alpine Campus from another Emeritus venue last summer. She was becoming more unable to care for herself and had started wandering outside the venue. At Alpine Campus she has a lovely room, attentive staff and can roam all four neighborhoods no matter what time of day or night. She seems so much happier given the freedom she has and the higher staff to resident ration. Being able to get up during the night and see a friendly face and have a cup of coffee has really diminished her anxiety and she is more relaxed and comfortable.

Everyone was very friendly and it looked clean and inviting. However, for respite care, the minimum stay of 14 days does not work for my needs.

A Little Too Elegant

It was very nice, but my mom felt that it was a little too elegant for her. We didn't get to see the Woodside, only Briarwood. They said that the Woodside is a little less extravagant. Mostly it is very expensive. The money was a huge factor. She is in assisted living, but she is not even at care level one. She would have had to pay extra even though she wouldn't have been receiving care.

No Kitchens

That was a beautiful place! The views were just breathtaking of the hills and the river and the city. The reason I didn't move in to that one is because there was no kitchen in the unit. You had to eat every meal in the dining room and there was no option on that. Sometimes you just want to make a little breakfast or snack or something. They had two burners and a mini fridge but I don't know what you could do with that.

Assisted Living and Memory Care

I picked Powell Valley mainly because it has the assisted living and memory care and they accept Medicaid. Those are two big pluses. They have been okay. They haven't been spectacular on the care. My mom is 100% dementia so they first went in to the assisted living and we just moved her to memory care, splitting my parents up. It was very discouraging for us to do that and we're still in the process of making sure that was the right move. In the assisted living there is not a lot of one on one care which I guess that was my fault for not looking into that before hand. Besides that it's been okay. I feel the assisted living part is really clean. I'm not really happy with the cleanliness of the memory care part yet. It's a little bit older and not as updated as the assisted living. I really do like the activities in the memory care. They're trying to get them to be involved.

Good For Active Seniors

This was a much larger community and they couldn't meet my mother's care needs. They're absolutely great for active seniors because they have all kind sorts of activities. They have a beautiful, big dining room if you feel up to that and then they also have a dining room on each of the three care floors. There is lots that is wonderful about them but once my mother needed more care they really couldn't handle it.

Very Friendly staff, salt in the food

Extremely friendly and caring staff, first name basis for all residents. I was very impressed with the staff. Very comfortable, modern, clean. Good hands on care. Our only problem was in limiting my Dad's salt intake, I was told the food was not salty. Never succeeded in getting a special low salt diet set up for him during his one month respite stay.

One of the most expensive places in town

I can't speak to the care services because my mom is not getting any. My mom likes the food better than the place she was in in Idaho. I think they're prices are a little high. It's one of the most expensive places in town so I think they could do better on the price. I worked at a facility for 3 years and they offered about the same things and were half the price of Emeritus at Springfield Campus. They have a lot of activities over at what they call The Meadows which is a block away. I'm not sure how they get away with that. I looked on the board today and out of 8 of 9 activities easily half of them were at the meadows.

Tour of Powell Valley

We had to do a virtual tour with Powell Valley which was difficult because I was not going to place my mom somewhere without stepping into the facility. There was nothing negative about it at all, it just was not going to be the right fit for us.

A nice tour

This community was second on our list. The staff we met were nice and the community was clean. They did offer activities for the residents. This community was just a little higher priced than what we were looking for.

Loud Music!

My tour of the Brookside Eugene Alpine Court did not go very well. The whole time I was touring, there was this very loud music playing, and it was very distracting. Also they did not have any openings at the time.

Awesome living but the food is awful

Calaroga staff were amazing when I was called on to help a friend transition from her home to a higher level of care. Leah [last name removed], Jody [last name removed] & Sharon [last name removed], Sam at the front desk are great-outstanding really. The rest of the staff and residents at Calaroga are fantastic. People are active, social, friendly and seem to love their living situation. There are lots of activities, the location is awesome and the apartments beautiful. The only negative feedback I have which seems to be consistent in other reviews, is with the quality of the food, which is poor, and the time it takes for residents to receive their meals. I have been there when it has taken an hour to have our food delivered and the food was terrible and my elderly friend reports she has waited 1.5 hours for an omelet. The wait staff are great but there is definitely a disconnect in the kitchen. Work the issues out in the kitchen Calaroga and you will receive 5 stars from us. Thanks.
