I gave the cleanliness a 4 only because it is an older building and could stand an update to the walls (paint), floor and carpet as well. And food, sometimes limited options are not to my liking. Not that...

I would say that overall it's pretty good, but there is no activities director, which is really a bummer. It's taking a long time to get a new one. The food is not always very good, it's not made with the healthiest of ingredients. Some of the workers are really great though and the cleanliness is pretty good.

There some definite gems in the facility, but we've had issues with communication between med-techs and the staff nurse. Conflicting calls as to the state of my mom's condition. They have repeatedly not called the primary or secondary contact at all. This was during an emergency situation. My biggest concern is inconsistent medical care.

I picked this community because of ,location, price, view and diversity of residents. They need to improve the, maintenance of the building , food and communication with the residents I would not recommend it to anyone.

You have to be proactive and involved and make sure that things are happening the way Evergreen indicates they should be. The staff are positive and responsive when I come to them with concerns. Overall the facility is good, although they're having staffing issues with housekeeping, which has been one of my biggest issues.

We had negative interactions with the staff in the first couple of weeks, even after the assessment they still had no idea how much care our loved one needed. The staff and administration need to improve on their internal communication with one another.

The care services are sometimes a hit or miss and the activities are very limited on the memory care side . They could work to improve on their med checks in the residents rooms more frequently and also for the price we are paying we really think they should provide things dental cream, tooth paste, shampoo, conditioner and clean towels. We want to visit to visit and not have to worry about what is getting done and what is not getting done. We thought the assisted living part was well done, get library and rec room with a pool table. They have outdoor activities and BBQ-ing

I would tell others that there are some staffing challenges. This has recently been improving over the last few months. I'm hopeful things will be better. My loved one likes the variety of food offered. It would be nice to have more healthy options available for the residents to choose from for meals. The activities are limited due to the pandemic but getting better.

Based on our tour, I thought Van Mall was okay. The place was a little older. And it felt like the group who lived there needed more assistance, which wasn't a good fit for our loved one. But it was decently located and close to the mall.

We moved our friend into Calaroga Terrace February 2020 and were initially pleased with the facility. However within a month Covid related issues began to expose problems. The working staff from the front desk to those delivering meals to the residents were obviously invested in their work and caring for the residents, but there was immediate and continual turnover in management. We eventually tried to move our friend from independent living to assisted care within the facility as her dementia became worse, but we were unable to communicate with administration despite physically going to the facility to meet with them in person on 2 occasions. Her health and safety required that we move our friend out of Calaroga Terrace in February 2021. We found a wonderful family home in Vancouver, WA where she received incredible care and personal attention. The dedication of the working staff can't compensate for disappointing management. We can't recommend this facility.

[name removed] led the personal tour and she was very knowledgeable, kind and positive. We loved the spaciousness of the unit--2 brs, great design, granite, etc--but my mom needs to be on the ground;) The building is like a skyskraper.

There are some bugs in the care services that need to be worked out. I'm giving management time to address the family's concerns.

I toured Brookdale Woodside while looking for a community for my mother-in-law, but we found that it did not meet our needs. They only have memory care there, and it seemed to me that it was for people who can’t come around, those that have advanced needs, and I didn’t think she would want to live there. She wanted to feel independent. We wanted the same; we didn’t want her to feel like a prisoner there, so we chose to move her elsewhere.

Though I liked the dedication of the staff to the clients, I was not too fond of the shared room situation. The space of the individuals actual private space was large. Almost too large for my father. It would be too far to the bathroom for him to walk too at night. The actual layout to the main rooms for eating and entertainment seemed too far away from the room available for my father. I saw no way for staff to be able to tell when my father needed help, because of how far the rooms were from the nursing station. The place was a bit big, the pricing a bit confusing and I did not like the shared room situation. My father would hate sharing a room and he would drive his roommate crazy.

I want to specifically praise [Removed] (now gone) for being so friendly and helpful at the front desk. Likewise, [Removed] has been extremely helpful with my mother's transition from IL to AL. My mother has lived at Calaroga for almost five years now. Unfortunately, the quality of service has gone downhill during that time, but with the new Director in place and a new chef in the dining room, things seem to be improving.

i did not get a good insight of the community. It was a brief and short tour. I was showed an apartment but didn't get a sense of the activities during the tour. I also did not get a good feeling, if it were more brief it would have been better.

The community is kept clean and they have activities but at times they don't inform all residents. The staff could improve on being more informative and caring. My mom says her meals are 50/50, and her main complaint is being left in the dining area for 2-3 hours. She eats but has to wait to be returned to her room, this frustrates her. I believe they do provide care and safety.

I thought that the staff really get to know the residents and do try to offer a personal touch and connection with them. There was a lot of turnover though, but we got to know the new people and they seem caring and kind. The billing was always screwed up, but at the end of the day we were just glad she was in a safe place.
