Unless things change, we are going to move our relative. If you do chose Calaroga, be sure that a relative visits your love one daily because the staff is not looking out for the best interest of residence. We have noticed others moving out. It is hard to staff to address our issue or answer questions, they are hard to communicate with because they do not return calls. The food is good and the staff is friendly but appear to be over worked and in crisis mode all the time. Do not move into the Care unit, they are having numerous problems, complaints, and turnover.

If you are considering moving to a retirement facility, be careful. We moved to Pacifica Calaroga Terrace in December. Services were promised, but not provided. After some research, we discovered the facility was under State of Oregon investigation for many violations and resident complaints. We are moving out this week at a great deal of cost and frustration. Before choosing a similar facility check with their state licensing agency to get up-to-date info.

We have had nothing but trouble with Calaroga Terrace. The food has been terrible, the waitstaff has been underpaid and under trained. The bed bug infestation has been terrible as has the slow rate of response to the continued outbreak. We have not had full access the all of the facility, yet the rent increase has been substantial for those of us on a fixed income. We have been through 4 executive directors and none have really had a command presence nor have they had the ability to correct issues, such as the poor food quality - despite constant complaints. The city, county and state have all been alerted and none have been able to receive adequate responses from the executive director. Recently I spoke with a nurse who works on the care floors and she says that they are extremely understaffed and that she would not recommend the facility for anyone needing assisted living - that says a great deal. The BBB has been contacted, A Place for Mom has been told, obviously the city, county health department, state ombudsman is very aware, many rooms are vacant (the only place in Portland without a waiting list - THAT should tell you something) and I strongly encourage anyone considering this place to go and see for yourself, eat the food, talk with residents, don't take the word of this resident without seeing for yourself. Ask them what they think about the "fitness" program and whether or not there is a trained and certified person in charge of it. I have no desire to either fabricate or exaggerate anything, please see for yourself! And then ask yourself why A Place for Mom would support it and what that says about this website...

I put my 101 year old mom here a year ago when she needed assisted living. I wish I had not. The place is dirty. Apartments are not cleaned regularly. Dust was deep in her room until today when I spent over an hour cleaning her bathroom, dusting everywhere, and vacuuming. We are paying for this service. The staff has changed several times while she has been here. We were told there would always be an RN or an LPN on duty but that is not true. Today is Sat of the Labor Day weekend and there is no one of authority on duty. I have contacted the State Ombudsman who was already aware of the problems here. Don't bring you parent here until there is a big change.

My mother in law moved into this facility several weeks ago and we are currently in the process of moving her out. The first three weeks living there, no one had removed her garbage so she's placing it in the hallway just to have it removed. She was advised to do this by other residents. Also, she asks for a shower since she's unable to shower unsupervised and she has went a full week without. [removed] As a diabetic, my mother in law is insulin dependent. When she missed her evening shot because the employee in the medic room didn't know what to do, she reported it to another worker. She was told, "oh well." This place has been, to say the least, a horrible experience. Cannot move her out soon enough.
