Mixed experience

In terms of the people and the service provided I think they do a wonderful job at Sunrise. The facility is attractive, has a warm friendly feeling, and the people could not be nicer! They also do a great job with the food! However, when my loved one moved in there were numerous maintenance issues with the apartment, some of which we've resolved and some we are still working through. They're trying to be helpful and get these issues handled, but it is still taking some time.

Nice place, could use more activities

So far things have gone well with Morningside House at Satyr Hill. It's a nice looking community, and the staff seem friendly and professional. However, my loved one has been having a bit of trouble socially. He says the population is on the older side, and the activities aren't quite what he was hoping for.

So far so good. But advocates always need to closely watch, anywhere.

Don't know yet. Seems fine so far and mom is adjusting. Had to catch some pretty bad prescription med errors within the first week. Mom might not have made it unless family closely monitored that situation. But we did. Family, advocates, loved ones need to do this anywhere. Staff is friendly, things seem good so far. Wish we'd done this quicker. I am so sorry for families that cannot afford these facilities as the toll on caretakers can be horrid.

Needs more offsite activities.

My mom moved in about 2 months ago and is doing very well there. What I liked most about Cedar Hill was the onsite physical therapy that was offered, the way they handled medication distribution at the correct times and amounts. I rated activities a 3 because I was a disappointed in the offsite activities they provided. It would be nice if there was an activity once a week, but there is only a bus that comes twice a month.

Overall very positive, but some inconsistent care

Generally we're very pleased with the care here. Some of the staff are amazing. The activities are great, there's enough to keep everyone busy and active all the time and Ashlee, who takes residents on their trips, is wonderful. The 3rd floor care manager, Karen, is excellent. When she is there everything is ship-shape. However when Karen is not on duty we've noticed inconsistencies with the care managers' cleanliness and care. Small things like dirty gloves and wash rags not being cleaned up immediately or residents being left in their winter coats after returning from a trip. When we address these issues they are corrected right away. I feel like sometimes my loved one is overlooked because they're on the lower end of the care spectrum for the facility.

Has room for Improvement

There are some standouts on the non-healthcare care team. The healthcare team has been in turmoil at the leadership level, I'd give the techs and LPNs a 5 but the leadership a 1. There is a new manager, there are repairs underway, but my father and mother have had a lot of complaints, especially about the food (cold when served to the second seating almost without fail). None of the management team that was in place, with the exception of the financial person, is still there from when we moved my parents in late last year.

Satisfied with Morningside

Overall, the experience has been mixed. Some staff are great, while others have attitudes. The interim director is good, and the other department heads are also good. The kitchen staff could use improvement. There should be dedicated kitchen workers in memory care rather than having resident aides trying to do both aide work and kitchen duties. Activities are pretty minimal and need to be more interactive. The calendar is filled with activities that are rarely done, and residents are often placed in front of the TV most of the time. Many of the activities seem geared more toward women. On the positive side, the outdoor porches and common areas are great. The food needs to include more diabetic-friendly choices and should be easier to eat and more appealing in presentation. Unknown or exotic dishes are not always well received, and memory care residents would benefit from having more choices. The room size, décor, common areas, and dining areas are very good. Communication between staff members, residents, and family members could use some improvement to keep everyone informed. Regular meetings involving residents, families, caregivers, therapists, and medical providers could help improve communication and coordination. I believe many facilities are experiencing staffing shortages and overload, which may contribute to some of these concerns. Overall, it is a beautiful facility with many fine workers. It is unfortunate that some staff do not seem willing to try harder. More training for all staff would be beneficial, including in-person sessions, online instruction, visual demonstrations, and role-playing exercises to help staff better understand the resident experience. Empathy, patience, understanding, and kindness are so important. These facilities become the residents’ homes and families, and residents deserve to feel that they are at home and surrounded by caring and helpful people.

Ghosted

The staff is wonderful, the rooms are decent sized, well lighted and airy with plenty of closet space. The building is very clean with nice decor. My biggest issue, and one that came up only recently, is the lack of communication from management. I have called the last three days in a row and asked for return calls and have not heard from them. I am sure that they have gotten my messages because the receptionist is great and always on top of things.

Overall happy, but some improvements could take this place to the next level

Lots of turnover on the medical team (key nursing staff positions too). This lowered my rating as it is a critical function in AL communities. They should also install locking doors that the door person has to buzz people in and out of (at least past a certain hour). This is pretty standard.

Not Bad; Not Great"

Most staff are friendly, helpful, and seem to care, however, There is a HUGE turnover in staff. There's not enough going on to keep the residents busy and occupied. They do play games daily or have an occasional art activity. But if your LO is like my partner and doesn't like to play games, there is nothing else to do other than watch TV.

Would not recommend for Memory Care

I am speaking about the Memory care floor. It seems as if they do not have staff and have high turnover to help residents. CMA/Nurse are not available to help. I was told that same food is served within days. Don't know if that is right for them to keep food and serve it again. Maybe it is ok. Food is usually cold and doesn't have good taste. Brother in law left the facility once or twice and was walking up the street. Receptionist at front door did not know he was a resident and didn't know his name. I thought everyone had to sign in and out at front desk. I honestly don't know what else to say but at this point I would not recommend the Memory Care floor to anyone.

Review for Morningside House of Blue Bell

[names removed] are terrific. Very caring and responsive. Place is a little smaller than many others and not as intimidating. The administrative part has had too much turnover and needs to tighten up. Also don't promise things in writing that you can't deliver. Such as taking people to Drs appointments and giving the impression that you can provide medical services that you really don't have

What they could improve on is that the administrative staff is completely rude. They were nice at first, then they get a couple months worth of checks and became absolutely rude and disregard any concerns I bring up to them.
