A Place for Mom has scored MBK Senior Living with 8.7 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 367 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, MBK Senior Living has 2,063 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.5 out of 5.
This community is having activities and are not adhering to covid safety. They are not requiring masks to be warned and are not enforcing it. They do not have a director right now and we have rotating directors to cover our facility. With covid, our food is not good, there is no variety. I can't eat half of what I get because it's so bad I would not recommend this community.

Be EXCEEDINGLY careful with these guys. They'll promise things are included in the lease only to go back on their word at a later date (and in our case, blame a change in ownership). Bait and switch at its finest. The executive staff, while friendly, fail miserably at onboarding or communicating in an ongoing fashion. It literally becomes another job just to get someone on the staff to call or email you back. If you plan on advocating AT ALL for the well being of your loved ones, you should definitely look elsewhere. Make no mistake: money is the #1 priority of this facility, its most decidedly not the care of its residents. They can and will say anything to get your business though - so BEWARE.

If you like to eat food, real food, don’t come here! My dad is leaving courtyard because of the poor quality meals; meats are reconstituted then over cooked, hard and dry. They try to cover up the bad food with even worse tasting prepackaged and over-salted sauces. The dining room is never properly staffed as they don’t offer fair wages to their workers. Employee moral is low and the turnover is high. Housekeeping is non-existent. I have had to bring my cleaning supplies and do weekly housekeeping for my dad, but they still charge him for the housekeeping service (which he doesn’t receive). I am a daily visitor to courtyard and have become well acquainted with staff, residents and their families. I can honestly say that no one that I have talked to likes it here. The management doesn’t care about anything but making money, as they cut staff, food quality and take away services (parking).

This is the worst place to place your elderly family member!! I have a family member who has lived there for 9 years. Every time management/ownership changes we were told it was for the best and it just seemed it was for the worst. Med techs and RSA do the best they can and The Montera needs to decide weather their employees are Med techs or RSA. I have seen the employees Med techs one day then the next they are RSS!!! All this causes confusion to the residents. Management is the worst especially the GM Mercedes she is one NOT to be trusted. She has made promises on Monday and by Wednesday she swears she didn’t. Be careful with The Montera their are a lot better places in SD and you will get your monies worth!

[Removed]. Seems like the recent reviews are pretty fishy. Anyone that actually lives here sees how the new manager truly is and doesn't buy the [Removed]. Residents wouldn't continue to move out if things were so great. My father has lived here for over a year and things have not gotten better. The carestaff is amazing and the food is exceptional, but that is about it. I would encourage anyone looking for a place for their loved one to look around at different places. Don't believe reviews. Go into communities and ask residents and families and staff what they think....

I was looking for a place for my father and was referred to Dale Commons. I was told they had 20 empty beds and an "interim manager", which is always a red flag. I was given a tour and marketed with a good pitch. The place was modern and attractive with good window dressing. However, the management and heart and soul of the place was singularly lacking. I was given very mixed messages about services and the front office was unprofessional and sketchy. The management may have passed on confidential information about my father which is a major HIPAA violation. I am a doctor in the medical field and am very familiar with the ethical and professional standards and practices of assisted living facilities. I definitely got the impression that they are in it for the money in a market with limited alternatives. I would stay away and would not place my family member there.

My mother is being mistreated by a staff member at Cottonwood Creek. He has been wanting my mother out of the facility for 1 year now. He has no right treat a senior with anger or meanness. We love our mother and know she is sad and unhappy about her current situation (sick), but she will be treated good. My mother is Colleen [removed] she is currently in heart failure and cannot get around. She has asked the aids to get her a bag of ice for her cup. She has been told by Barry "you can't get Colleen ice". Why are your staff bringing their personal feelings to work? She needs help! We can't be with her always to make sure she is being treated good. This is abuse and we would appreciate it taken care of.

The management at the Commons of Dallas Ranch clearly places their emphasis on "appearances". The bad news is that appearances are deceptive. This facility looks great, but if you have a relative/loved one who lives here then you know the truth. The care, safety, security, and well-being of the residents is secondary any woefully deficient. The memory care unit is packed with as many people as possible and the staffing in completely inadequate to deal effectively with the needs of the residents. I applaud the job that the care givers are able to give, however the facility is so understaffed that they can not possibly meet the needs of the residents. This facility has slowly but surely become a "custodial" facility with no quality of care. Residents are stacked in a TV room and if care givers are occupied with a couple residents then they are left unattended. The quality of food has gone down significantly and now consists primarily of canned or quick fix processed food that is very unappealing. Do not put your loved one here. The management/owners are only interested in collecting hefty fees for inadequate services and the management is completely unresponsive to concerns.

Moved my wife in to Hillcrest in Jan and several issues have popped up with staff glitches and very inappropriate behavior of executive director. Last straw, Martha was kicked out of the facility on friday night the 5th of Sept in the middle of the night for very bogus and selective reasons even though this behaviour was tolerated from other residents but they made an example of Martha and wouldn't even assist her moving to another facility even though I, her husband, had been sick in bed for 3 days and couldn't help. Still they forced her out in the middle of the night. Inherently WRONG. Do NOT recommend this facility to anyone else until they get their corportate issues squared away.

There is no smell in the hallways and entry way. Overall, I feel the staff could be doing a better job at cleaning our loved one's room. There are some staff that are very nice and cordial, and others that are not to the residents and family. The care the community provides could be better for our loved one. It would be nice for the staff to communicate more with the family on our loved ones' care and needs. The care is based on levels assessed by the community. The community is supposed to be doing the laundry, bathing assistance, cleaning of our loved one's room, and additional care items. The family feels these care categories are not meeting our expectations. I would not recommend the community to others for their loved ones. [name removed] and some of the other marketing team are very nice to work with. The community states they have enough staff; however, they are pulling staff from other departments to assist other team members out in caring for the residents. There are days that the Director of Memory Care is nice, and other days that she is not as kind to the family and residents. There was a time my loved one has shown up at a doctor's visit in dirty clothes and smelled.

My mother-in-law was promised good care for my father-in-law. She went back and forth about placing him or keeping him at home. Informed the facility the possiblity of him trying to escape or becoming agitated but was reassured the staff could handle any situation. My father-in-law was admitted on Friday morning at 9 am and that very same day he escaped out of his bedroom window. The staff informed my mother-in-law that she was required to sit with him 24/7 until Monday when they had the staff to come up with a different plan. My mother-in-law instead took him home Saturday. My mother-in-law was also not informed exactly how much of her deposit would be reimbursed since "they cared for him one day"

[date removed] The facility itself is nice but it is ran terribly. The food is awful. The staff doesn't take their responsibilities seriously. My grandmother was not given her medication for two days yet they insisted it was given to her. When I asked to see the book where they sign when medications are given that night was already initialed (6pmit was 3pm) and the following morning at 7am was also initialed. When they counted up the pills there was two more than there should have been. If we wouldn't have been there almost everyday she wouldn't have received her medication. This was not the only incident where a resident didn't receive their medication but marked that they had given it to them. When my grandmother fell and was taken to the hospital the staff called one person on the emergency contact list. The staff knew that this person didn't always have cell service, but they didn't call the other two people listed as emergency contacts. That was Friday night at 10pm. The message wasn't received until 6:30am, the next morning. My grandmother died at 7am before we arrived at the hospital. My grandmother died ALONE. Our family members were at Dale Commons almost every day visiting my grandma. The staff and manager knew our family. They knew we lived out in the country and to call more than one emergency contact. Why would you list 3 if they aren't going to call them? When we asked the manager why protocol wasn't followed and the next emergency contact wasn't called his reply was "how many people do you want me to call?" Later when I questioned the manager again he asked me why I was talking to him. It wasn't him who didn't make the call. The last time I looked up the responsibilities of a manager they include being responsible for their employees. The manager is a joke. The residents pay a lot of money for these people to take care of them and they just don't do their job especially if the family isn't there often.

My mother had been there for several years ! The looks of the place seem great but they are soooo deceiving when it comes to care! The staff had changed over so many times as well as management ! We found cockroaches in her rooom and the maitance man never called the pest control people to take care of it ! She was invaded with roaches and they barely did a thing!!!! Most of the time the Med techs don’t even know what meds they are giving my mom when she asks ! In the evening the Med techs answers phone calls from the desk and deliveries meds at night! My mom just recently went to the hospital in an ambulance. I had to find out from the hospital a day later. No one at the front desk told me she had gone. Horrible care!!!!! No matter how good it looks and how good the food might be the service is terrible ! Getting my mother out ASAP

Called for information and got the used car treatment. Insisted that I be transferred to the marketing department, placed on hold for about 10 minutes (which feels like an eternity), then some girl who sounded like she was 10 years old came on and wouldn't answer any of my questions. When I did stop by, there was nothing going on and patients were asleep in the lobby. I was told to wait because all of the administration were on their lunch break. I finally just left. Wouldn't consider putting my worst enemy here.

My mother lives here and we are looking for another place to move her to. Staffing is our biggest complaint. The old leadership was much more caring and interactive. The new Administrator rarely comes out of her office and the new nurse supervisor is incompetent. Her own staff told me that she's only been a nurse for 6months. She makes excuses and forgets requests all of the time. The building is beautiful but the environment is boring and non-caring. My mom went to the last resident meeting and even the president said they were considering moving to another community.

Our parents have been at the Wellington for over three years and most of the staff has been wonderful. In the last couple of years they got a new head nurse and she is constantly bullying us and intimidating us with threats of kicking our parents out. It has been an emotional roller coaster ride for our family. If you parents don't have any health problems it is wonderful but if they do we suggest you bring them to another facility. Which we have now done
