Worry Free

My father has been a resident at Maplewood at Stony Hill for the past approximate 2 and 1/2 years. I can't say enough good things about the facility. The staff is caring, loving, and attentive. They treat my father as if he was their loved one. And, the staff communicates with me on a regular basis with respect to my father. The staff not only made my father's adjustment to the facility seamless, they continue to adjust to his needs, as both his memory loss gets worse and his physical needs become greater. I go to sleep each night knowing that my father's needs will be met. I am so happy with the decision I made.

Excellent short term stay

My husband was just discharged from Maplewood after a 6 week stay recuperating from hip surgery. We were very impressed with the staff and facility. The rooms are bright and airy and my husband was able to walk the halls numerous times a day accelerating his recovery. Under difficult conditions of the Covid Virus they did a very good job during lockdown. When it was safe to congregate again, they provided numerous social activities during the day and movies at night. There is a small gym for working out. The dining room, “pub” and community rooms were beautifully decorated and always spotlessly clean. Weather permitting, one can walk in a lovely garden space. The Darien Maplewood is located within a few miles of two excellent hospitals, Norwalk and Stamford, certainly a great advantage. We would definitely recommend Maplewood if you or your loved one needs round the clock care in a lovely facility.

Highly recommend

They do try to do farm to table meals here at Maplewood, they have residents growing and picking the herbs outside for the meals. They have a big open window and if someone does not want to sit at a table they can sit at that counter and watch the food being prepared. They have been great about social distancing in the dining room so that residents are still able to eat together. I have gotten the activities calendar and they always have something going on. They do things 7 days a week rather than 5 like some other places. I would tell others that communication has been GREAT. They call us, email us, we can face time. It is all one one floor so we have been able to also visit through the window. They make a big effort to keep us informed. Overall, I would highly recommend. I am very happy with our choice.

Vaccine administration clinic

I am a wife of a resident in maplewood Darien. I attended vaccine clinic on the [date removed] . I was incredibly impressed by the organization of the event . The staff’s roles in the process were clearly defined and the operation run smoothly and efficiently . Congratulations to the hard working staff and staff from higher management who arrived from headquarters and elsewhere to support the process. Residents’ and caretakers confidence increased during the process and I am sure their experience will be helpful for residents in other Maplewoods facilities and their families ito make a decision to vaccinate . With great appreciation for the hard work of the staff. Best wishes to all.

Welcoming community

While she was here, we were very pleased with this facility. The staff members here were wonderful to our whole family they were all very friendly and helpful. They did have a lot of activities to offer, but she did not participate in many. My husband and I went almost everyday to have lunch with her and the food here was amazing, they were chef prepared meals. The only thing that upset me was that once the virus started, it was closed down so I could not be with my mom when she passed away. I would highly recommend Maplewood at Twinsburg to anybody and I already have. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Review of Mill Hill Residence

I am writing this letter to thank you very much for the concern and attention shown to me during my search for an assisted living facility for my aunt, [name removed]. I also want you to know what a pleasant experience I have had discovering the Maplewood at Mill Hill residence in West Yarmouth! During my search, I have engaged many of the trusted people in my life for advice: friends, neighbors, caregivers, and anyone else who seemed knowledgeable about finding an appropriate assisted living facility for [name removed]. My search spanned from Cape Cod to the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, and everywhere in-between; little did I know, when I started looking, how complicated and elusive a task it would prove! After all, how does one find that perfect fit for a bright, healthy and lively ninety-six-year-old woman needing to leave her large, upscale condominium in Yarmouth Port? How does one accommodate the needs of a loved-one who has been a single, independent woman for the vast majority of her life; who succeeded as a teacher in the New York Public School System over a thirty year career; who earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in her area of expertise; and who is generally the sweetest person you would ever meet, but who now finds herself afflicted with a debilitating case of short term memory loss? I have wrestled with this question over the weeks and months of my search: how do I accommodate my aunt’s current needs in a way that respects the warm and impressive life she has lived thus far? Aunt [name removed] memory lapses began three years ago. Soon thereafter it became evident that she would need to accept help with some of her daily functions, and that she would have to give up driving, a capability from which she’d always drawn a great deal of pride, and which enabled so much of her independent lifestyle. This was the inevitable change that signaled a new phase of [name removed] life, and new routines; she could no longer drive to perform her own grocery-shopping, or attend church, or visit with friends, or even enjoy a quick dash to the beach on a quiet evening without the assistance of caregivers to help her maintain her quality of life. This newfound dependence on caregivers stood in stark contrast to the independence and self-sufficiency that characterized [name removed] entire adult life! With a sense of inevitability, I began the search for a facility that could meet [name removed] longer-term needs. [name removed] and I visited several beautiful facilities in the Laconia, NH area – I initially thought that it might be best for [name removed] to move closer to my home, to a place where I could see her with greater frequency and where I could respond quickly if there were ever an emergency. We visited top-of-the-line facilities together, several with beautiful lake views in the Meredith and Laconia areas. Each of these facilities was excellent in one way or another, but none were able to satisfy [name removed] number one criteria. [name removed] insisted that her new home be directly on Cape Cod, or “very near it!” Uncertain of how to proceed I changed my strategy. I called “A Place for Mom,” and I enlisted my son, David, to look around the Duxbury, MA area and perhaps solicit advice from caregivers in his town. My efforts finally paid off, as Mill Hill in West Yarmouth was suggested as one of the best assisted living facilities on Cape Cod by an acquaintance referred to my son by a friend! I began speaking with [name removed] who is the regional director of Sales with Mill Hill, and I immediately felt that this was a real possibility. [name removed] explained in detail what [name removed] could expect in her daily life at Mill Hill, and what her unit accommodations would be like. [name removed] staff was very patient and assisted me with the large amount of paperwork required to bring [name removed] in. After the initial application was complete, I connected with [name removed], the Executive Director of Mill Hill who was equally helpful in seeing that [name removed] needs were met. It has been almost six months since Nancy became a resident at Mill Hill, and things couldn't be better! She is thriving and it is easy to see that she has grown to not only accept this big change, but that she is actually enjoying her surroundings. One of the big issues she had was with the units she toured at other facilities…all nice, but small compared to her condo. This was a hard change for her. But [name removed] and the staff were incredible in setting up her unit, making her room into an open and spacious place. [name removed] was able to bring some important furniture from home, including her favorite living room chair where she watches tv and reads. She has her drop leaf dining table next to a window where she can see beyond to people walking and cars going by, and a small refrigerator for her goodies. Her bathroom is well appointed and very handicap proof. It really is a perfect unit for her! I feel a great piece of mind knowing that the leadership and staff at Mill Hill are caring for [name removed]. And maybe most importantly, [name removed] is still in her beloved Yarmouth! Since [name removed] moved into Mill Hill, the world has changed due to the pandemic. I have visited [name removed] twice since the advent of covid19. Each visit was wonderful. I felt safe and the staff was very careful taking precautions to protect everyone, resident, visitors and staff alike, from the coronavirus. Thank You Mill Hill!

Friendly staff members

We chose Maplewood at Strawberry Hill because of the location and the cleanliness of the facility when you walk in. The room sizes here were great, they have a nice kitchenette, bathroom, and bedroom. We did eat here a couple of times and the food was great, they had a menu with choices. The best part about this community is the staff members. I would recommend.

Great move for Mom

I have been familiar with this building since it was built. Maplewood of Chardon has a great home like atmosphere feel to it. Some of the original staff are still on board. I knew this was the place I wanted my mom to be. May 2019 I moved my 90 year old mom from Florida to Maplewood of Chardon. [name removed] was very helpful working with the facility in Florida to make this move successful. The option was to take the first room available between Currents & Tides Memory Care. At the time I would have thought that Currents would be the appropriate placement for mom, but Tides was the first room available so we took it. When mom came in she needed 2 person assist for transferring and short distance ambulation, using a wheel chair the rest of the time. Mom needed much assistance with meal time, needing spoon fed and cuing during meals. The staff was and continues to be very welcoming as well as truly caring and loving. They continue to always be helpful with a smile on their face. Staff is very knowledgeable in elder and dementia care. As soon as mom moved in we started her on Physical Therapy to get her strength back in hopes of also getting some ambulation back. Between the Physical Therapy and all the activities she was involved in, along with the caring competent staff at Maplewood it wasn't long before mom rallied. She is currently ambulating all over Tides with her walker, participating and very engaged in all the activities. She is also feeding herself fine. Luckily Tides was the first room available for her at the time as she has just blossomed on that unit. It is comforting to know she is in good hands, so I can sleep at night. Even through these Covid times I am confident that she is safe and happy with the dedicated staff watching over her. I would highly recommend Maplewood in Chardon for your loved on and also a great place for employment.

Great place for Grandma

Maplewood at Twinsburg is home to my grandmother and is my families extended home. Prior to COVID, we'd visit daily and join her for meals or activities just as if we were at her own home. COVID has limited our visitation, but the company has given us so many opportunities to connect with grandma (I-Pads on Facetime, a talking Robot, window visits and outdoor ventures as well). They have been proactive to ensure safely and have always keep in great communication with our family. Keep up the great care and service. The nursing staff is amazing.

"I want to spend the rest of my days in an AL that specializes in dementia", said no one ever!!  Obviously it is not the ideal situation for anyone, or the decision that any family wants to have to make, but I will tell you from first-hand experience, I know that having my mom move into Maplewood at Twinsburg in November of 2019 was the best thing I could have done for her, and for us! Mom was diagnosed with dementia about 4 years ago and we watched her short-term memory slowly start to fizzle.  She would repeat a question we had just answered, she would forget what day it was, she searched for words and was even having difficulties with driving safely and following the plot of a tv show.  Reading was her comfort, for she had been a children's librarian for most of her adult life, and watching her struggle to get through a book because she had to continue to read the same sentence over and over again, was literally heartbreaking!   My dad had become a hospice resident in a SNF, and passed away almost a year ago.  Once he passed away, my mom had a rapid decline in her cognition and was also starting to have issues with her back which resulted in hospital stays (5 to be exact) and 3 SNF stays, all within a 6-month period.  When mom was admitted for the last time, I knew that if I brought her back to her apartment after discharge, I would never be able to convince her that an AL setting was a good and appropriate for her.  I made arrangements to have mom transition to Maplewood at Twinsburg, and she was unsure about the decision, but after touring the building and finding out that she could have a cat (that alone sealed the deal), she was willing to give it a go.  Mind you, we went out and adopted a cat from the Summit County Humane Society a day after she moved in and that was the best thing we could have ever done, not only for mom, but for Sunny Boy, but that is a story for another time! I must tell you that we have our ups and downs with the understanding of why she is there, wanting to go "home", being upset with me because I am the "decision maker" and the fact that her entire life has changed, but the one thing that has remained is the care that my mom is receiving. From the moment I made contact with Maplewood, everyone, and I honestly mean everyone, was so helpful and knowledgeable and willing to take the time to answer questions, and to calm my nerves and to reassure the decision to transition mom to AL was the right decision.  From the initial evaluation ([name removed], your compassion and knowledge, your patience and kindness are of the utmost importance for that “first impression”) to the admission process ([name removed], you are amazing at what you do and the people skills that you possess are second to none and completely indispensable) and then to walking through those front doors and being greeted by the receptionists in such a familiar way that they make you feel welcomed and comfortable, I cannot say enough about all of them! The floor staff is outstanding, from nurses, to housekeepers, aides to dietary, there has always been someone available to me or to my mom whenever we have needed them to be.  They thoroughly enjoy their jobs and WANT to be there and that is apparent each and every day!  By the end of mom’s first day at Maplewood, everyone knew her name, had welcomed her and had gone out of their way to make sure she was having a successful transition.  To this day, they keep a close eye on her, as they do with all of the residents, and keep me informed of every little thing that I need to know! It is such a comfort and relief to know that my mom is well taken care of, is respected by the staff and that they take care of her as if she were their own grandmother.

Very Happy Daughter

I was looking for a community for my mom and started my search at Maplewood at Darien . I was very impressed how clean the community looked and the attention to details in all their services. The apartment is nicely sized and it had a beautiful view to the patio. The community was accessible for someone with wheelchair or walker . It felt more like an upscale apartment building than you would expect from a senior living community . I saw 2 other places before deciding with Maplewood Darien , and i am happy to say after 3 months and seeing my mom settling in and made new friends, that i am very happy to have chosen this community .

Great Food, activities and leadership!

In his 90th year, my Dad has really enjoyed meeting other residents and participating in the great activities provided at Maplewood of Weston. He loves the healthy food, and the challenge of exercise classes. Amazingly, Dad has made friends with a Maplewood resident who went to his same high school in NY. The management has been attentive to our personal concerns and the fine tuning of his care plan. Dad is especially fond of Maplewood’s new leader who has been very kind to us all with his personal attention. I recommend Maplewood and look forward to Dad’s future there.
