Absolutely Not Recommended

I would absolutely not recommend Brookdale Oakbridge to other families. On the first morning my loved one was there, she had a terrible fall. She had not been issued an alarm pendent, which resulted in her laying on the floor for over two hours waiting for help. We were told by the staff that they "did not know she was there." They also did not call 911 to take her to the hospital, and they said it was because they did not have her paperwork. Overall, the staff here is questionable, the administration and management never respond to questions, the menus never reflect what is actually served at mealtimes, laundry and housekeeping is not done, and they do not hold monthly community meetings, as they say they do. This is not the place for a loved one.

Do NOT bring your loved one here

We moved our mother into Habersham House (HH) memory care unit. We had many problems as detailed below: When applying for admittance for our mother, in addition to her financial statements (she is self supporting), we had to provide our own personal financial details which we found intrusive. We also completed a detailed account of our mother's likes, dislikes, personal history, etc. We appreciated the thoroughness of these questions. Sadly, it became clear that the information on our mother was either never shared with the staff or if it was, they ignored it. When our mother celebrated her 91st birthday, nothing was done to celebrate it, nor was it even mentioned. When we inquired if anything was done to acknowledge this special day, the Director’s reply indicated the staff had no idea. There were regular activities and musical events in the assisted living area that our mother would have enjoyed (as indicated on her questionnaire) but she was never taken to participate. In fact, one such day, my sister was present when a staff member came to the memory unit to ask if there were any patients to transport for the performance. The aides present immediately said "no", with no consideration that a few residents might have been interested. The memory care unit literature and advertising emphasize the Montessori Method. It was never explained to us how this method was applied to people with memory deficits. Although a bulletin board listed several activities each day, we never once saw any activities despite visiting several times a week, at different times of the day. The aides in that unit appear unsmiling and unresponsive when greeted and certainly, whenever I was there, they were more interested in their cell phones than in the residents, who were left in their chairs to watch infomercials or other inappropriate content on the TV. The residents lack stimulation and seem to be treated poorly by the staff who do not seem to care since their patients cannot voice any complaints. Our mother was in the Memory Care unit at Habersham House for 6 weeks approximately and her hair was washed only 2 times, even after frequent requests! On one occasion, the coordinator of the unit said the staff did not wash hair and we had to have the hairdresser do it (was this a kickback scheme?!). What happens to residents who cannot afford to have a hairdresser on a weekly basis? Of course, when we complained to the director, this was denied but it did happen. Hair was supposed to be washed once a week, baths 3 times a week. On one occasion, my sister arrived to find my mother's door closed. She heard yelling behind the door and when she knocked, a staff member opened it slightly and said they were helping her in the bathroom. When my sister spoke with our mother afterward, she said the staff were very rough with her. At that point, my sister inspected mother’s skin and found red marks on her back. You can form your own conclusions here. Our mother was moved to Habersham House from another facility out-of-state where she had resided for 2 years. The Staff there were wonderful and we were very satisfied with her care. The new residence to which we moved our mother after Habersham House, is also wonderful. Residents there are respected and treated with dignity; the staff are visibly caring. There are many activities in the memory care unit and our mother actively engages in them. Her mental state has improved enormously! I mention this to indicate that we are not newbies to this, nor are we typically complainers. Of the three facilities which we have experienced, we were happy with all except HH.

That really turned us off and when he called later that day he said he got sick and had to leave. He should have someone else to do the tour instead of bailing on me, I felt like he was lying to me.

Unprofessional, Incompetent, Dirty and failing

This place should be shut down but it will likely go out of business first. Only 15-20 of 80 beds filled. They have no money so they are cutting the budget for FOOD and no prizes for bingo. The food is inedible, the rooms are filthy, the management are incompetent, they try to steal, [removed] They have aids handing out medication and one was caught falsifying records last week. TV remotes do not work and no one is bright enough to program. Their billing is horrible and after 14 requests they still have no accounting for the trust fund. This is a very sick place and every medical professional we spoke to told us to leave because they are known to be very bad. There are no phones in the patients room and they quite often do not answer the main phone number. [removed] They have cut the FOOD budge and no longer give out prizes for bingo!!!!! Run away quick.

Too much junk food and very little nutrition

Residents are not being served healthy food or given an opportunity to get sufficient exercise. They gain a significant amount of weight after moving in because this facility is constantly giving them sugary snacks. There are no options for fresh fruits or vegetables, and residents are served alot of carbs and starches at mealtimes. There is no way for residents to even be able to choose a healthy lifestyle at this place. There is no focus on being healthy or making healthy choices.

I toured here when I was looking. It looked like a juvenile detention center. I didn't like that they lock the dining room, so the residents are sitting in the lobby waiting for the dining room to open. It was more expensive than a much nicer place. They showed me the price for the apartment, it was more than what I made in a month. My daughter was with me when we toured and she was listening to two residents talk, and I don't know what she heard but we left immediately, and she said she would never let me move there.

Money Motivated

It’s horrible! Getting follow up and follow through is an issue. They said they give medication – but there were just concerns with their care services. They were ready to take my loved one back from rehab, but the rehab required them to come and do an actual evaluation – and then they decided the couldn’t take her back. They were there for the money.

1) it had a very medicinal smell in the main building, 2) the staff did not speak to us at all during our visit, 3) the residents were rather apathetic in general and none were 'well groomed', 4) the spaces were not well lighted and it was kind of gloomy (it was a rainy day, but the facility lacked adequate lighting throughout), 5) the activities planned for the residents did not compare well to those offered at the other two facilities and, 6) most distressing, their business model is very focused on medical issues versus stimulation, happiness, well being, and resident socialization. We have eliminated Agape Senior. I would not recommend this facility to any family or friends looking for a loving/caring environment.

Don't Stop Here

I would not recommend Bridge to Rediscovery. The staff are not CNA qualified or even close to understanding how to inneract with Alzheimer's patients. I think the whole facility needs an overhaul starting with the director.

I stopped in to check out this place for my mom and I could not believe how rude the marketing director was to us once we told her what we could only afford ,then she was so nasty to the staff that was only trying to help and ask if we needed any help because she walked off to take a phone call

Would definitely not recommend

Ansley park was a dump when it was American house. After that company took over everything got worse. Don't recommend that place to a dog. Honestly, the place is disgusting roaches everywhere we had to bomb her stuff before we move them out and after the food was edible I had to send them 2 to 3 meals a day and it was run by American House forget about it, that place took over Ansley Park , it got worse. One of those people took over my mother couldn't wait to get out of there. I don't even think they stayed there a year there's a few months and then my father needed memory care so we decided to move them both. The Director of that place Ansley Park should not be employed. She was so incompetent and nasty that the most of the staff walked out on them because of her.

Our families experience review

Our loved one was there for a short awhile and he was sent to have behavioral assessments and they advised our loved one was not able to go back to American House after they had discharged him. They did not keep us up to date and American House was not willing to work with us or give us any heads up. Our loved one was kicked out immediately.

Avoid

If you have a family member that is basically fully independent and just needs an apartment with three meals a day provided, this might be a good place for them. But if they need any kind of assistance with dressing, toileting, showering, any memory problems, then definitely not. I was very disappointed with them. They were supposed to come and clean my loved one's room once a week, and they did not. I was there almost every day, and pretty much every day I had to clean something - spilled messes, feces on the floor. She wasn't getting a shower once a week. When I would ask them when her last shower was, nobody knew. The director kept telling me there should be a list on back of her door stating her scheduled shower day and cleaning day. But there never was any list, and I had to keep asking for it. Most of the people were pretty friendly, but I feel like she got zero care. She never even got a call button for help. They kept telling me it was on backorder. She was constantly telling me that the food was awful, and I hardly saw any activities.

Don't send your family member here.

I removed my loved one after he had only been there for two weeks. They locked him out of his room during the day, and there's no bathroom on the floor for the residents to use. They said that's their policy, and that they take the residents to the bathroom every couple of hours. But that's not happening. Every time I went to see him, his diaper was full of urine. He was severely dehydrated and had a UTI from not being changed often enough. He fell there several times due to the combination of dehydration, the UTI, and not getting enough to eat. (They would put food in front of him, but they didn't help make sure he ate it.) When he fell, nobody called me to let me know, even though they sent him to the hospital both nights. I've seen him at 3 pm still in his pajamas, dirty and needing a shower. He couldn't even stand up and walk when I got him home. And now that he's home and away from there, he's walking by himself and needing very little assistance getting around. It was a terrible experience. He lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks there. It's not a place you would want to put your loved one at all.

Absolutely Smoke and Mirrors

I am really stepping out, I normally do not write a bad review. However, after placing my parents here -I have apologized to them everyday. This place is absolutely disgusting. The change over with management is revolving and constant. The facility is old, does not have any curbside appeal and the staff can not communicate with the resident due to language issues. It smells like a nasty nursing home, the food is cold and multiple complaints have been called into the state. If you do not like your loved ones this the perfect place to put them. The food is below average and always cold. The sliding glass that was added in the dining room was actually a big deal? They are behind in every area- I would highly recommend not to send your loved ones here, you will regret it.
