A Place for Mom has scored LCB Management with 8.9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 447 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, LCB Management has 1,234 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
The staff, starting with management, dropped balls constantly. From move-in it was very apparent that the facility was more of an independent living environment. My wheelchair bound parent couldn't access the bathroom in the selected room and had to change to a painfully small studio since there was nothing else available. Nothing was wheelchair equipped. The kitchen sink couldn't be accessed nor could the bathroom easily. We asked for modifications to be made, but only a few were completed. We were told there were only 4 wheelchair equipped rooms in the facility (i.e. roll in showers and lowered roll under counters). The aides had to be trained on basic lifts and were not gentle at times. After developing a persistent pressure sore, they increased the care level retroactively without my knowledge, even though the wound care was done by outside skilled nurses. There was no additional care given by the staff to justify the [amount removed] increase. The food and restaurant staff were wonderful. Housekeeping was terrible, as I had to send pics to the Director of feces on the toilet seat that remained for 4 days. We had to move our parent out after 6 months, which was very difficult for all of us. This is a beautiful resort-like building, but if someone is looking for a facility where they can age in place and be properly supported, this is not it.

We moved my mom into assisted living and she loved it for a few months. The building is on the small side which was what my mom liked about it. Beautiful grounds and interior. Very well kept up, the food is amazing and staff were kind. They told us there was a "transitional" program/activities once residents showed signs of dementia. There was no program. Another issue for us was the high turnover of nursing staff. We had to move her due to declining cognitive function and lack of staff to attend to her in the assisted living area.

Overall, we (my family and I) are extremely disappointed in the services that my mom is paying for at this facility. I feel we were sold a false bill of goods. However, we have nothing to compare this facility to, so while we are displeased with the services there may be other places that are worse off. There is huge turnover in staff, training needs to be implemented with new staff members on how to do the simplest of things, for example, making a bed, showering a person. Changing sheets on a residents bed is not done on a regular basis, family members have had to step in to take care of that while the resident is paying for that service. Also, there is a language barrier as most new staff members do not speak English and therefore cannot communicate with residents. There is a constant occurrence of a breakdown of equipment, HEAT.. the dining room has been frigid in cold temperatures, making mealtime unpleasant as the food is cold by the time it arrives at the table. In addition, the elevator is now on the list of equipment that is breaking. Residents are either stranded on the first floor and unable to go to their rooms or have to wait for an aide, which is near impossible due to the shortage of staff. The elevator has been breaking down at least twice a week for the past three weeks. There is an onsite temple and a visit from a rabbi each Sabbath for the Jewish residents, while residents of the Christian faith get a virtual service that sometimes is impossible to watch because of the breakdown of equipment. Poor response time when resident presses their tag for assistance.. there have been times where my Mom waited 2 hours for someone to come to her aide. I don't think there is any quality to the care received. The on call podiatrist is rude and un-clean while attending to the care of the patient. Other medical staff persons can also be rude to residents, while a few are pleasant and caring. During the past 14 months, 14 people in key positions have left. Training needs to be implemented to new staff members. The food has improved slightly, but seems to be more geared towards the kosher food style for the residents who are of the Jewish faith. However, it was recently learned that the chef that improved the food is now leaving. Rent was recently increased by $300 per resident and staff has decreased. There is an imbalance in the services and no added value with the increase.

My Mother, a resident at Mercer Hill, fell ill in December and was placed on Hospice. All my Mother wanted was to be at home in her final days so I arranged with hospice to have her brought to HER home in Mercer Hill. Instead of being met with concern and compassion, I was met by [name removed] Guest Services Director with attempts to block my Mother from being in her own home in her final days. [name removed] showed no compassion or concern for my mother or I and only cared that Mercer Hill would not profit off my Mother's final days. When I confronted [name removed] and stated I would sue before leaving he proceeded to laugh at me. [name removed] Guest Services Director and [name removed], General Manager run Mercer Hill with a total lack of compassion and concern for the residents. [name removed] in fact raised the rent of the residents by [removed]% in 2023 ($[removed] per month for my mother) with no concern for the fact that the residents live on fixed incomes.

They lied to me about how often he'd be able to exercise and shower (promised daily, got once a week at best), the management staff was often unavailable or unresponsive, and the medication management was iffy at times. That said, he was safe and fed for the month he stayed there. But I wouldn't send him back nor recommend anyone send a loved one there unless they had no better option. I had to go there almost daily to make sure he got his meds, had enough access to water (I brought in cases of water for him), and educate the staff of his needs. He definitely decompensated at a very significantly higher rate while he was there.

The memory care unit at Pearl Street does not appear to be equipped to handle people who are entering the advanced stages of Alzheimer's or dementia. They promote the fact that someone can move into their assisted living and then continue out their time in memory care if needed. However my father eloped from their memory care unit and after an extended visit to the hospital to have his medications adjusted, they decided they would not allow him to come back so we had to find another place for him to live. It was all in all a very disappointing and frustrating experience.

We have not been very happy with Suffield by the River. It's a beautiful facility. Unfortunately we are quite disappointed with the care my mom has been receiving and the stress that puts on my father. The aids would benefit from more and consistent training. And I would recommend more staff aids rather than using an outside service. They are revamping the administration with three new administrators at one time. They keep their distance from the residents. They refer to some staff as doctors yet yet they are PAs. (House physician and Podiatrist). Mom's care has been abysmal. Except for her regular morning aid the other aids are not properly trained nor are they consistent with her care. The am and pm aids come at varying times and they actually forgot my mom one evening. Mom even fell when a new untrained aid came alone to prepare my mom for bed. The residents are required to buy their buzzers yet they often take a long time to respond and one time went to the wrong apartment. When it comes to the meals, the breakfast is great and the fact that my parents can go to the dining room at anytime and sit with whoever they want is great. Other than that the food is pretty awful, except for the baked good. Billing issues were almost impossible to resolve. No one wants to talk to you. Initially they were quite rude about adjusting their bill to reflect the promises of their marketing manager.

It became apparent very early that there was a large change over in staffing. It seemed that my mother had an aide that was new every few days. The director and business manager and sales reps have changed in July and then again in September and one of the positions in January. I received a call from a nursing director that was less than professional and when I went to meet her about a week later, she no longer worked there. Aides actually told my mother she was calling for help too often and she was going to be charged for each call.

My sister wanted to be in Rocky Hill and Ferry Park Told us she could have independent living there. She moved In and what was promised by [name removed] was not the case. I felt I was aging myself at a rapid rate just visiting her there. Nobody can walk on their own, it’s like a nursing home and the executive director told me after we moved her in there that they don’t have a lot of residents because they all passed from covid. [Name removed] had said they were close to full. I will say it is a pretty building. But if you are active like my sister don’t go here. The activities are slow and the activity girl talks to you like You are a child. It just wasn’t for my sister and was very expensive!!! She only stayed a month or so and is much happier elsewhere.

The current administration lacks communication with the family. The community switched pharmacies without letting the family know, and this has caused delays in my loved one getting medications that are needed in a timely manner. I would recommend you make sure that this community is able to completely care for your loved one. If you don't want to have full involvement with your loved one's care, this isn't the place for your loved one. The meals are really good; however, they don't accommodate the dietary restrictions. The chef does puts together well menus. I was able to bring wine for my loved one to use and the community has lost these items. I ended up labeling the items the next time prior to bringing them into the community for my loved one.

Although it is a beautiful facility, the management and staff are not friendly and could care less about their residents. Other than wait staff in the dining room, I am truly displeased by the front desk and administrative staff. My grandmother deserves to be greeted and spoken to in a friendly manner. Also, she pays extra to have her room cleaned and it is never clean. The sink has been clogged for months, the bathroom is disgusting and there is a layer of dust on her coffee table.

My father moved in when it was Brookside and we felt quite good about the decision. However, when the management changed hands the service deteriorated. There were fewer aides and response time to a the call button increased. The food was hugely worse. We had chosen the facility because of the Kashrut on the food. Without notice to family they changed to a lower standard. I happened to see to find out because a notice was put in my father's box in 8 point type, too small for most seniors. My sister spoke with the management and they had no interest in discussing. The executive director was quotes by another staff as saying "The residents are spoiled we need to retrain them.". The food and beverages in Bubbe's cafe - a nice place to spend time out of the room was rarely available and the coffee machine was broken at times. The prices just went up alonf with the service decline One shininging light are the nurses who are truly amazing. The nurses are caring and understanding and the reason he stayed there after the changes made by the new management.

Folks, the prior reviews are from people who "toured" the facility. What a crock. It's been numerous years since my mom stayed at Traditions, but they were far from 5 stars and I find it suspect that real users answers are buried. Mine shall likely be as well. Beware of a clean facad. That is not the best way to judge a facility.

My mother was in the dementia/memory care unit at the Reserve (Brookdale) from August 2017 till she passed end of October 2017. It is a nice facility with some caring individuals. Some problems with cleanliness in the room. I would advise however that you will be charged an minimum of 7 days care after the individual dies. Total rip off. Money grubbing at it's worst. Read the contract very carefully.

Their care was good in terms of assisted living, but they had some personnel issues. people were leaving, and they were having trouble with man power, and they were short staffed. The chef left and they were faking it for quite a while, and the food was bad. They had assigned seating, and they didn't offer to help when there was another resident causing problems. There were people on the verge of being in the memory unit, and causing trouble at meals, and that made for an unhappy social environment. Management was not doing a good job, and didn't have enough people.

This facility is small and appropriate for low functioning dementia patients. The staff is caring and attentive but activities are limited and stimulation is minimal. We moved our mother after one week because it became clear to us that despite what we had been told the residents were in the more advanced stages of their disease, were fairly low functioning with offered activities matching this level of functioning and our mother would be under stimulated, bored and unhappy. We also had some concerns regarding cleanliness but we expect those concerns have been addressed by management. BEWARE: All email addresses were the persons title and not their name; probably means high turnover! HINT: Be sure to negotiate for a trial period, in writing, before signing anything if you have any concerns as to the appropriateness of this or any facility. We did not and despite rigorous negotiations with management left a large amount of our mother's money on the table when we moved her.
