Family member has been a resident for 3 years. Fabulous facility. Great rooms, lots of storage. Dining rooms & common areas are spacious & comfortable. Most rooms have nice outdoor areas & the facility has a nice inner courtyard. Parking is generous for both residents & visitors. Good access to shopping & services. Now for the downside: Inadequate laundry facilities, they look nice but very limited hours for residents use. But the worst problem is the food. Very uneven quality & service. They can put out good restaurant quality food & then the next meal is totally unacceptable. This week they served potatoes that were burned on the edges & raw in the middle (just an example). Totally unacceptable!! Soups may be good or look like dishwater. I just don't understand why their service can't be more even. Residents are a close knit group that look out for each other. I certainly hope they can improve their food service! Other problem is extremely high turnover for staff which is very distressing to the residents. Hard to develop relationships that seniors value. I can't count the managers that they have had in 3 years ( I would guess 12).

They are okay, they are much better than anything else around town. There are a lot of things they did right in the beginning that we didn't like. In the beginning they were more of a two and now it's about a three, so it's gotten better. They made good on some of the things, but some of the reactions were sort of this is how it is if you don't like it leave. At first they said they could provide transportation, on site, with only a little notice, which is true, but they knew my loved one was confined to a scooter, and they don't have a lift. If they had told us that it wouldn't have kept us from going there, we just would have known to make other arrangements. The salesman was nice enough, but two managers, a married couple, the wife is nice, but they could have been nicer. We signed the lease a month before moving in, and they didn't have things ready to go, even though we paid for more time, and they had plenty of time to get things ready. It took days to get some things ready, and I had to do some of it. She has been there a couple of months, and they have only vacuumed her room twice. Things have gotten a little bit better as far as being accommodating. They were very aware that we live locally and told us to come and eat with her, after a week I had had two meals there and they said hey you need to pay for these, then another manager said you don't have to worry about it for a couple of months there isn't much consistency. They seem to rotate managers in and out of the property and it makes a difference.

Betty Palmer died before she was ever able to move into Thornton Place. We had paid all the upfront fees. She fell at a convalescent center just a few days before she was to move in. It took us over three months to get her deposit back. We had to call several times and even go to Thorton Place in person. Finally, after three very stressful months, we received her deposit back. This money helped to pay for her headstone. Thank you.

Husband and wife living here 1 year. 2 bedroom apartment at 1 person price. High staff turnover. Meals not very good but for the cost of this apartment, can't complain. New laundry equipment. Exterior maintenance recently. Transportation van needs maintenance to reduce bouncing. Problem with petty theft. Not assisted-living. Pets allowed but no grassy area for dogs.

Initial impression was more positive than the latter impression. Of major concern was that the facility had been presented as one where a veteran could submit a claim for aid & attendance VA benefits, but as we researched the VA application we found that the criteria had changed and without the facility being listed as assisted living or personal care, the VA would not consider. This was a huge impact and had been one of the criteria we discussed when looking for placement. After placement, we had to push for an alternate unit, as there was an overwhelming and noxious smell from the carpet after it had been shampooed. We found that the prior occupant was a heavy smoker, which had not been disclosed. The smell was causing daily headaches and permeated clothing etc. The facility did make available an alternate unit, but we had to do all the associated moving of furniture. Overall... wish we had not chosen Essex.

Echo Ridge has Not lived up to my expectations, based on what they promised before I moved in. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Most people are here because it is the least expensive. If you decide to come here do not expect much.

It was going very well... But it looks like they fired the manager and that is very very upsetting. The chef was out and the food is not good. It was, now it's not. Hoping he's back soon. Very unhappy with Devonshire. Until they fix things I would be leery of sending anyone there. It was great until it wasn't.

The apartment itself is pretty great in size and they live in there comfortably. The activities are good too. However, the staff don't care about the residents, the food has gotten really bad, they don't provide the cleaning services that are paid for (though the facility itself is kept clean). We're looking to move them elsewhere

She has been there almost two months and her cable tv is still not working despite many many calls to the GM and others. They had a bed bug outbreak and she was confined to her room for 4 days. Also the elevator doesn't work when in the extremely hot weather which is a safety concern when there are many elderly on the second and third floor. Also she fell and couldn't get help from anyone there.

Over the past few weeks there has been a lot of staff turnover especially in the kitchen. I recently returned from a 12 day vacation to discover my apartment had not been cleaned for 3 weeks. It's supposed to be cleaned every week. I knew it wasn't cleaned because the garbage had not been emptied from when I left and the apartment smelled bad from rotting food in the trash cans. Also the food quality and availability have diminished. Portions have gotten much smaller and and not as appetizing. Servers are often out of choices by the time they get to the last row of tables. It seems like residents and employees are much less important than corporate profits.

They are severely understaffed, I would not recommend Greenwood Terrace to others.

Holiday Gardens not as good as we thought. Mom is on 3rd floor elevator broken most of time. Too many fires to suit me. Kitchen fire few weeks back. Also no security at night. Whole building full of seniors left to fend for themselves. We are thinking of going somewhere else.

Ask about staffing. Low staffing has resulted in rooms not getting cleaned weekly. Food hasn't been up to my mom's expectations. They seem to have a lot of good activities.

We arrived at 10am for our tour and they did not have anyone to show us around. They had our tour incorrectly scheduled a half hour later and asked us to wait. The person that was supposed to show us around still wasn't there at 10:30. They called her again at 10:40 and told us she lived 3 minutes away. We didn't put any more time into the place that obviously couldn't be bothered to be ready for us.

The community has some challenges that are worth noting. Cleanliness in shared spaces can be inconsistent, and the dining experience feels repetitive with limited fresh options. The overall environment doesn't always align with expectations for independent living, as some residents appear to require a higher level of care. Amenities could also be improved-reliable internet access within apartments would make a big difference, and activities seem limited. Staffing appears to be stretched at times, with frequent changes and team members covering multiple roles. There also seems to be a high amount of resident turnover, which can impact the sense of stability within the community.

I rate it a 2. The staff are overall friendly but working in unfortunate conditions. Management changed and new policies have not been well received. They don't really provide care, but they have housecleaners on staff. The one assigned to my mom's floor is sweet but not well trained on cleaning. The common areas get sort of grimey. The dining hall has gotten so awful my mom stopped using it, which is really absurd considering that's so much of the monthly cost. The kitchenette only has a mini fridge (that has to be defrosted monthly) and a sink, so her eating all her meals in her room is not healthy and expensive. Room size is pretty small but fine for her. It's a studio. She doesn't have a bed, just sleeps on her couch, so she's got room for a dining table and chairs along with some bookcases and an arm chair. They do have 1 bedrooms, though, for those who need more space.

I would say that they sure put on a great show of caring for people when we first met with them. I believe the manager passing away negatively affected the facility and its staff. Things we were told upon “signing up” my MIL to move in are not what they told us after she got in. They will not assist you with anything. They have “caregivers” who charge $[removed] per visit just to bring someone a meal, and we were charger more than the amount of visits my MIL had the first week she was there. The Ambassadors who supposedly are supposed to help acclimate someone to a new place stopped by once and haven’t been back since. Several people have been extremely rude to my MIL when she has gotten out and wheeled herself down the hall, one lady said “I don’t know you, who are you and why are you even here”, instead of greeting her kindly and maybe trying to be pleasant. This has made my already introverted mother in law not what to even join meals or activities. She ordered a convection oven/air fryer unit and cooks all her own meals since she feels uncomfortable even going into the hall to do PT. No one speaks to her or is kind in anyway. The keycard to get in the building after 7pm or through a side door still doesn’t work. Even after they replaced the original one a month after we asked them to. The place is not clean, it looks clean but the closets are all off their tracks, the paint is peeling, it is not handicap accessible AT ALL. The exterior is filthy if you look beyond the front door. Carpet in the halls and stairs are old and stained. No one ever answers the phone at the front desk. Will never recommend this place to anyone. It was less expensive and we didn’t have a whole lot of time to make a decision. We were constantly fighting her insurance company to let her stay at the assisted living facility where she was as she still could not walk, but, they said they would not cover anymore time there. We had to rush to find her a place and get her moved in.

Just not as nice of some others we've toured. Not comfortable with only one elevator for size of building.

It was okay - the room was tiny and needed updating inside and out. It is quiet and the people are friendly.

I was only at the Regent for two weeks and left. I found the Regent very depressing. Very outdated needing repairs and new appliances. There was no repairman. The food was unsatisfactory/too much salt and my ankles got swollen the first week I was there. I was the on the fourth floor and the elevator was frequently out of order. The dining staff was overworked but remained pleasant. I was told to hire someone if I needed help. It was a very poor experience overall. The only bright person was the woman who admitted me. She was delightful in every in every way. I t was because of [removed name] the I decided to go there. Everything was at the lower end of the scale. People keep leaving to come over here. Those numbers would be very telling. And I would not recommend this facility.
