Tour experience

We toured with The Landing and it was a very nice place. They did have a courtyard as well which was a big plus. The only downfall for us was the fact that it was mixed assisted living and memory care. The staff then have to crossover between levels of care and I think they are very different from each other. We wanted a place that only focused on memory care.

Not recommended for Alzheimers

I feel like this was a bait and switch form the management and how things were in the tour. It seems like there was a problem with retention and as this declined they were no longer able to care for my loved one or handle him and called the authorities. The staff and the managers just seem to all be very new. I feel like the memory care unit is okay they just are not suited to treat Alzheimer's.

Pleased With Move to Morning Starr at Holcomb Bridge

My mother was in a facility that was very nice, but too small to provide the activities and stimulus she needed. I was looking for a facility that would engage my mother in activities and allow for interactions with other people. Morning Starr has been that place. I was especially pleased to find out that they employed a full-time activities director. Although much larger than her previous facility, it is not so large that my mother's needs are not being met. The owner/operator, Joel Addison, was very helpful and very accessible to answer any questions that I had.

Some of the staff were competent, but more were untrained which they admitted and there just wasn't enough staff. The weekends were tough. The housekeeping was good. Communication was poor with the family. The meals were rather unappetizing and not very warm when served. The move in went well, but there was little education for family members. Again, not enough staff. I had hospice to help 3x a week, otherwise my loved one wasn't bathed or changed very often. I had to hire a night nurse. I would not recommend this facility. Thank goodness for hospice and my loved one's night nurse. The staff was constantly leaving or being fired.

The Landings at Norcross review

I believe the Medical Care Deficiency is Serious. That seems to be the TREND of The Landings at Norcross which smacks of Warehousing. Many Seniors don't have a Close Family Advocate. The Landings of Norcross- Memory Care. Positive Experiences are General Cleanliness & Safety with Overall Nourishing Menu. Rooms are Comfortable. The Downside: Staff is CONTRACTED...Every Week there is a New Staff leaving NO CONTINUITY of CARE! THE EXCUSE IS "I'M NEW AND I DID NOT FIND ANY NOTES"! SEVERAL TIMES, STAFF LET [name removed] MEDS RUN OUT WITHOUT LETTING ME KNOW. ( WE had an Agreement upon Move-In that I would order his Meds from VAMC ATLANTA & DELIVER TO THEM.) I AM SO HAPPY I DID! DURING THESE TIMES, I HAD TO RUN DOWN TO VA MEDICAL CENTER PHARMACY, PICK UP REFILLS & RUSH THEM TO NORCROSS. IF I WAS NOT TOTALLY ENGAGED IN HIS CARE, I SHUDDER TO THINK OF THE POSSIBLE OUTCOME.ONCE HE WAS OUT OF Propranolol For 4 DAYS! AFTER A YEAR WITH NO Improvement, IT WAS TIME TO MOVE. WE WILL BE SEARCHING IN THE FRANKLIN/ BRYSON CITY, NC AREA FOR A BETTER SOLUTION. OUR EXPERIENCE WAS WITH MEMORY CARE SECTION ONLY. FACILITY NON- MEDICAL STAFF & Facility Mgt WAS VERY NICE & Always Helpful. In Memory Care, Leonard was supposed to get 2 Supervised BATHS WEEKLY & Daily Hygiene Coaching, such as BRUSHING TEETH. NON- EXISTENT! We would NOT Re-admit There!

Overall good place, but like with any place, stay involved.

Jackson Oaks Senior Living has people who care. Sometimes it's hard to get in touch with top management. No matter where your family member goes, stay involved.

Very friendly staff

All of the staff was very friendly. My loved one loved the food. She didn't participate in the activities, so I can't rate those. She had bugs in her room, but she also ate her meals in her room. My suggestion for improvement would be better clinical skills (I'm a retired nurse so I pick up on their lack of knowledge), but I realize that's an issue with all facilities.

Good Community, But Needs Improvement

The staff is extremely friendly. The community has had extreme staffing issues; however, I know this is nationwide. This has caused not having a lot of attention. My loved one didn't feel like they had privacy as the staff wouldn't lock doors or come in unannounced to their room.

The all-inclusive monthly rate of $2900 at Felton Manor was great. $200 more if you live on the first floor. The bathroom was too small for my mother to turn her walker around. The 2" threshold leading in to the shower would put my mother at risk for a fall. Bedroom size and 2 closets were fine. The staff was relatively nice. We saw a couple of caretakers that weren't the friendliest with residents. The director couldn't tell us what the caretaker/resident ratio is, so that was concerning to us. There wasn't any green space outdoors, only concrete which we didn't like. The outdoor patio wasn't covered. Southern-style menu isn't my mother's cup of tea. In a pinch, we could move our mother to this facility, but think that there's a closer facility to us that would be a better fit. We're glad that we went on the tour so we have a benchmark to compare other facilities to.

Welcoming and Caring Environment

They have a very welcoming environment. The staff is very attentive and there is a high caregiver to resident ratio. It's a smaller institution feel, which is what we like, where everybody knows everybody. All the caregivers know all the residents by name and their needs. On the negative side, the staff is not 24 hours, so the hand-off is a little disconnected between day-to-night and the weekends. Also, it's a little early, but I have this feeling that we got him in at one rate, but it will increase as time goes on.

Review for Jackson Oaks Senior Living

We picked this community, because of the of the price and it was really close to where I live. Also, they were allowing small pets. They feed you a big line when you go there to view it. After being there a couple weeks, you see through all the smoke and mirrors. They kept blaming the fact that they couldn't find any help. They were very short staffed one night I went there, and the nurse on duty was chatting with one of the girls sitting in the office. didn't look to me like they were out, doing rounds and giving meds out.

Don’t expect the staff to care for your loved ones

This place is absolutely horrible at caring for your loved ones. Once the relatives leave, they treat your family member more like an inmate than a person. They have little to no regard for the physical well-being of the people you entrusted them to care for. This is more of a death camp than a care facility, don’t be fooled by their smiles and false words, they want your money and fail to follow through with what they promise.

Administration Lies

The care staff at Bentley is wonderful. Unfortunately, [removed]. We were told that my mother, who has Alzheimer's and congestive heart failure, could remain at Bentley until she died as long as she did not need skilled nursing care. Mother has lived there for two years, and she knows and loves the staff. She is in her fifth month of hospice care. The administration at Bentley has now told us that they can no longer care for Mother. They have given us 30 days to move her out. She will never recognize the staff at a new facility or recognize the facility itself. Moving her at this point is unnecessarily cruel.
