Food Quality

I find that the people that works there are very nice .i do have a problem with the food on the weekend and evening. I find that when I go over to visit with my mother at dinner the food is cold most of the time and on the weekend it's not just cold but has no taste . I find that when the food is not good the people living there don't eat and they go back to their room. There is more food not eaten than food eaten so to me that is a waste of MONEY and time ! So if they aren't eating then that tells me you are going to have some sick and unhealthy people living there . Good food means healthy people. My mother loves the breakfast and lunches during the week but not so much on the weekend . The food on the weekend is cold and tasteless.

Things to consider

Their lack of communication about your loved one and their health decline needs major improvement. They need more staff. They need more actual certified nursing staff that realizes a lot of these residents have mental decline. Staff is usually MIA outside smoking. Their food is high in sodium and nothing of nutritional value. The facility is fairly clean but they don't clean residents rooms the way they should.

Things to know

Country Cottage Russellville is a very small facility. It is a good price. They have low levels of activities provided for residents. The people are all very nice. They could improve by offering more variety on the food menu. To help with the urine smell, they need to change the patients more often, and put on a toileting schedule , room fragrances.

Inappropriate care for Dementia patients.

The facility itself was okay but the staff are not trained to take care of diabetics nor Dementia. The expectation was to assist my father we should have not have to ask for every single thing to assist him. The staff when signing the paperwork gave a list of what was included with each pay range. Definitely do not have your family member in this facility if they have any Alzheimer's or dementia. They are not qualified to take care of patients with these diagnosis. Meals at night would be a hot dog or bologna and soggy bread. Pts with Heart disease do not need the unhealthy foods they provided.

Disappointed

Overall, I would not recommend Country Cottages in Montgomery. I'm currently looking to move my mother to a different place. The caregivers' attitudes & level of attention to residents' needs are subpar. The food is not good, usually not warm enough or even cold & they rarely have activities in my mother's building.

A Facility Struggling to do a Diffucult Job.

The room was nice. But the cottages did not provide what we expected and my dad only lasted a few months there before we had to move him. Some staff were very kind, remembered my mom's name and were gentle with my dad. Others were sullen and unfriendly. Some of the caregivers complained about my dad to supervisors in an appropriate and professional manner - he was indeed a difficult patient ! And others just vented at my 80-year old mother in a way that hurt and offended her. Quality of care - mixed overall. Many hours a day alone in his room with the TV on. None of the enrichment and group activities on the schedule were offered in the Memory care cottage - just the Common Room TV. Clean and easily accessible dining area. Traditional southern food with lots of starch and sweets. My dad's diabetes worsened greatly on the diet. Nothing offered to memory care units. My dad got physical therapy a few times per week and my mom visited daily for several hours. Otherwise nothing. Value for cost - this is very hard for me to judge. With so few facilities in Montgomery, and the "nicest" place completely out of our price range, the Cottages became our only option when my mom was desperate for a placement. The other facilities we visited had more activities going on besides the TV, but they could not meet my dad's care needs. It was a lower cost than avg, and I imagine lower care than average.

A nice place...

It was fine. My Dad enjoyed his brief stay. The food was ok, not super great but not horrible either. Our only true complaint would be how medication is handled. Anyone going there would truly need to understand what medications are necessary and be an advocate for themselves.

Needs improvement

The food is a big disappointment. It's rarely what's posted on the weekly menu board & it's always served cold, never warm enough. Mother didn't get a shower, her clothes washed or her room cleaned at all in her first week. Her morning meds were skipped one day & I discovered that she had not been given her Eliquis at all for at least a week. Mother is legally blind & I've told them about that, but there's been no effort to let her know when activities are happening & no effort to explain how other things are done. I don't think all of the staff members have even been told about her vision limitations. Watching TV is her only entertainment & she has a huge 75" TV, but the Direct TV service is sketchy & the channel she watches almost exclusively often freezes up & there's only one person who can re-boot the system to get it back. When that happens at night or on the weekend, she's stuck with no TV until that person gets back.

Would recommend to independent seniors

For independent patients it is fine but for those that truly need assistance it is a little more difficult due to the lack of staff but I will say it is getting better lately and my parents are getting better about asking for help. I was told certain things would not be issues and they have been initially but we are working through those concerns. Overall a good facility and glad we have them there.

Affordable but could be better

When it comes to the care services, we are not sure he's getting cleaned as well as he should be but he could also be denying help with bathing. He's put on weight and he says food is good. They need more activities. Supposedly they're hiring an activities director but I don't think it's happened yet and I feel they should make the memory care residents participate in activities it's one of the more affordable facilities and I think it's great there's no steps of care

A Nice Place to Visit, But I Wouldn't Want to Live Here

I would encourage you to look at other communities before deciding on this community, to make sure it is the right fit for our friend. The director was great at the beginning and was able to get our friend in quickly; however, it has gone downhill. There has been no communication about the pipes bursting, and other issues within the community. Our friend has only complained about the food. The food needs to be softer for the residents to be able to eat. I was under the impression that the community would take the residents out for lunches and dinners and activities, and now the residents have given up in asking for this as it hasn't happened. I wouldn't put another loved one here due to the lack of communication, food, and other concerns we have.

This is a newer facility, but we weren't happy with dad's care here. I feel like the memory care staff isn't properly trained for that kind of care. They don't have a good variety of activities and don't encourage the residents to be interactive. I think it's definitely a better fit for assisted living.

Community Tour

I didn't care for the facility as much as others we looked at. The dining room looked small and not as nice. The facility consisted of four buildings that weren't connected to each other, with walkways that were hard to traverse with a walker. They used a pullcord system for residents to call for help, and we preferred a pendant system. I thought the staff were really nice though.
