Hickory Senior Living

We toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. This seemed like a nice place overall, and is definitely somewhere we would have considered for our loved one! The staff we met were friendly, and the facility was clean and well kept. However, at the time of our search they did not have any availability.

Jessica was pleasant and knowledgeable. Nice facility, rooms are small. Common areas are nice and spacious but private rooms do not allow for much personal furniture.

Overall I think they've done a great job at Country Cottage! The people who work here are all very friendly and professional, and the facility itself is well kept and clean. The only minor issue we've had is communication difficulties between shift changes, sometimes care requests you've made don't get passed along. But overall a very nice place!

So far we are pleased with Columbia Cottage. Mother has not been there a month yet so don't know what the first bill will be. She broke her hip right before we were going to move her in! The Cottage was very helpful in getting Mother moved in spite of the hip. They have had to do much more for her than we expected but for the most part have done it well.

The staff is very helpful, friendly, and courteous! I like the community. Residents are encouraged to interact with each other and they promote a home atmosphere. The rooms are small, but cozy and they like to keep the numbers low in order to maintain that cozy home atmosphere.

They were loving and caring. They took great care of my mom. The food is excellent, it's a five. I liked that it was a smaller community. Overall I liked the cost per care ratio. There were a couple of business things that I had an issue with. When we exited the facility, the fee they charged for filling in nail holes and cleaning the carpeting, etc was astronomical. Additionally the way the contracted pharmacy service works, every time someone goes in and out of the hospital they stop and restart the medication. You have to pay a round of co-pays everytime. My pharmacy charges were almost double because of this. I think they could have explained that a little better in the beginning. These are some of the hidden costs and unsuspected things that came up, families should know about. They really did take great care of my mom though and overall it was a good experience.

It was clean and staff personable. The rooms were very small (220 sf) We were told there were a few male residents but primarily female. Staff helpful in giving VA links and info. Of the 2 assisted sites visited, we preferred this one to Plantation Manor.

I was very warmly greeted by all even the residents. Really enjoyed talking to the RA, Tracy. she was very helpful and informative. This may be the place for Mom. We will let her decide but I liked it.

One of the things that impressed me was their communication. We're able to talk to the people in charge if we need to or anyone who is giving our mother care. That's been a positive point. The primary activities are all on holidaty - Fourth of July cookouts and things like that. They're kind of sporatic. My mother enjoys things like bible study and sing alongs and there has been very little of that. We looked at another place and this was the place that was best suited for her.

It is really hard for me to give a perfect review but this community is really nice and very clean. It is the only community in this town that provides these services. Although we did not have many choices the cost, cleanliness and friendliness of the staff made it a good community. There are other communities in neighboring towns but they were from $500 to $1,000 more then Columbia Cottage.

My loved one was well taken care of. Like all places, they were having a little bit of a staffing shortage, which is not their fault. Though It did put a strain on the ones who were there, they were always very pleasant. I was very impressed with the facility as well. It's an older building, about 20 years old, but they have kept it up very well.

This community was really great and it was a nice tour. The value for the cost and the location were the main two important factors for us.

Mt Brook Columbia Cottage was selected after my mother needed assisted living after being hospitalized after a fall. I recently spent 2 weeks visiting at the Cottage. I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff.

My dad seems to be comfortable in his new living environment and has made a smooth adjustment so far.He has had no complaints about the food and the chef does a great job at making sure the meals are well balanced and nutritious for all of the residents. My favorite thing about the facility is how well lit it is inside the building as well as clean and always being newly updated. I do however think they can improve on how often the aids bath and care to my father. It seems to be lacking in that department.

My mother is a resident at the Blake. Just recently, she became very ill in the evening. We were immediately contacted by the nurse on duty regarding my sick mother. The nurse had already contacted my mother's doctor and he advised she should be sent to the hospital. We were very happy that the Blake secured the ambulance and transported her to Thomas Hospital. Because of the quick action at the Blake, my mother was treated and improved so she could return home. She left the Blake about 7pm and was back in her room about 12:30am-a very good time frame for going to the emergency room. Because of the quick action getting her fluids and medicine, she is feeling much better just 24 hours after this incident. Thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Blake

I find that the people that works there are very nice .i do have a problem with the food on the weekend and evening. I find that when I go over to visit with my mother at dinner the food is cold most of the time and on the weekend it's not just cold but has no taste . I find that when the food is not good the people living there don't eat and they go back to their room. There is more food not eaten than food eaten so to me that is a waste of MONEY and time ! So if they aren't eating then that tells me you are going to have some sick and unhealthy people living there . Good food means healthy people. My mother loves the breakfast and lunches during the week but not so much on the weekend . The food on the weekend is cold and tasteless.

Well there are issues. My loved one says there are too many meals that are just sandwiches and every time I turn around I have to replace his electric razor. He was reprimanded for using regular razors after he cut himself and he told them his electric razor disappeared. I have bought him at least 4 electric razors since he moved there. It is funny that we had not had to buy him a new razor for years until he moved there. I don't think things are monitored like they should be. His medications get left on his dresser. I expected his medications to be regulated better than that.

They filed for bankruptcy. The staff would walk out in front of the residents with boxes of their snacks. They got rid of the activity director and quit having activities and went up on the cost!!! The cleaning staff doesn't know how to clean or make a bed. The meals were terrible!!!!

Some were great, some indifferent. Our loved one liked the meals and dining but when it came to the activities there were very few. I liked the layout. Some of the staff was lovely, but often times it was hard to find anyone...they were usually sitting outside smoking. Very few activities.

When we contacted them, they were friendly & eager to meet. We met on a Saturday & the residents were gathered in the "living room" watching TV. Once my loved one was there we never saw gathered in one place. They were always in their rooms isolated. There was one man that constantly walked the facility. I felt there are other places in Lawrenceburg for about the same costs that would have served us better.
