Life is Joyful

I will begin by telling I felt a lot of pressure to make the commitment to live here by the selling agent. Looking back, I do not think it a pleasant experience. However, I ultimately made the choice to live at Marian Village myself, for a variety of reasons, and now that I am here, I am delighted to be so. The facility is very clean. The staff of maintenance, front desk receptionist, meal servers are very efficient and pleasant. The residents make this a joyful place to live. All are cordial, but not over bearing or trying to pry into your personal space. I have to say I walk down the hallways with a smile on my face, because that is how it is here. I feel very safe and secure and that is a good feeling. My only real complaint is with the food itself. The quality is not consistant, and the portions sometimes indicate that they have run short. I would wish more healthy offerings like whole grain pasta, egg whites, whole wheat bread, vegetables not overcooked or over seasoned. But maybe that is just me!

I am very impressed with your retirement villa, services and accommodations. At this time, I don't need the level of care and service that you provide in your independent living setting, but will keep you in mind as my needs change and will not hesitate to recommend your location to other people I know that are looking for independent living at the level you provide.

This place was okay. I toured here when I was trying to find a place for my mom. Based on her budget, it was way over priced but it was very nice. The gentleman that I had talked to was very nice but didn’t really help me much other than telling me to call someone else to see what my mother would qualify for. All in all, I decided to go with a different community.

A Caring Community

Everyone is so friendly here, but find most have English as a second language, so communication with the staff was sometimes difficult. There is a definite issue with clothes. I did my mom's laundry myself, and even with a big sign on the closet door, clothing disappeared and I would have to hunt it down. GET IT LABELED, OR LABEL IT YOURSELF! Having the staff label laundry could take up to a week. The building is old and the rooms are small but the facility is clean. Windows need replacing. Took both hands and a lot of strength to open mom's window, only to find the screens torn. Other than that, mom seemed to get very good care. Nurses reported every medication and other changes to me regularly. Physical Therapists really work their butts off with the patients, and it shows in the results. Activities attempt to get every resident involved. I particularly loved watching the wheelchair bowling! The staff really gets to know the residents. All in all, yes, there are newer places out there, but I'm glad I picked this one for its caring atmosphere.

I had a nice tour of this community. Everyone was kind, and friendly. From what I saw the community appeared to be nice, and clean. The staff I met was polite, and my questions were answered. The experience was a good one, but I did find a better match for my love one, and her needs.

We toured this community for my parents. The staff was nice and they did answer the questions that we had. We liked the menu of the meals that are offered. We liked the activities that would have been helpful for both my parents. We would recommend that families tour this community for the care of a loved one and the value that is offered.

I think my tour of The Village at Victory Hills went very well. The people were there were very friendly and they gave me a lot of good information. The reason we chose another community was because when I walked through the facility, the hallways seem very dark. I could not see my mother living here comfortably.

We liked Victory Lakes because of the architecture (Frank Lloyd With-ish), the Prairie Homes (cottages) for independent living. The location is double-edged; the country setting is beautiful but, at the same time, it is relatively far from shopping, Metral line to Chicago, town activities. But the feel of the place was very positive.

Superior care

My mom did respite, she did rehab, she did nursing. It's an older building, it's worn down, it's almost a little dingy. I was not happy with it but that's just the physical aspect. On the other hand, the care is superior, we had no issues with any of the caregivers or nurses or aids. They were not willing to work with her medications right away, they said you had to go through their pharmacy and we had to pay 300 dollars outright for her incontinence care but they provided the pullups for her.

Our family experience

Some of these ratings have to do with the fact that my dad is fighting most everything since getting there. The food was great when we sampled it prior to signing. My dad was happy with it when in assisted living, but in memory care it was not the same quality level. We did talk to [name removed] about this & she made some adjustments to diet orders (?) that seemed to help. I have been pleased when talking to daily staff. They seem to try their best to help the situation. Dad needs hearing aids charged & cell phone charged. He thinks he can do it, but doesn't. Without either of those, he can't communicate well. When he can't hear on the phone because his hearing aids aren't charged or not even in his ears that just creates more problems.

Our family had an in person experience and the setting of the community was very different, it was much more of an inner city setting and it was pretty Catholic heritage based. We just thought our loved one may of felt a little out of place.
