Review for Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks

I only had a few days to find a place. Chose because it is a few miles from my daughter in case of any emergencies that may arise. I would recommend. Very nice place. Staff helpful but I'd a little pricey.

our families experience

Care staff are friendly, however like everywhere they're short staffed, so although families pay the same amount, there's less eyes on the resident. Activities are great, but not much that's specific to males. The Resident director hasn't been kind to speak to and brushes off concerns. The meals there are amazing. The entire dining staff does an amazing job.

Comfortable and happy at Stonebrook Village.

I worked with my single (unmarried, no children) and financially independent younger brother to help get him placed in an independent living apartment at Stonebrook. He is the type of person who is very particular and opinionated about many things and has always liked to have things done for him, and has no desire to be cooking meals or doing housekeeping, which he is now provided with. So far, he seems to be quite comfortable and happy at Stonebrook, is participating in group activities there, and regularly using their transportation services. He finds Stonebrook to be a facility that suits his needs, and is a very nice place that is a step above run-of-the-mill nursing homes, but not as elaborate or elite (or as expensive) as some of the resort-style senior living facilities available in the area.

A good place

Overall experience was fine until my loved one wasn't getting one on one care, which I knew that was going to happen because he wasn't able to do anything on his own. I told [name removed] at Colebrook that they weren't going to be able to give him one on one care, but she was in charge. The people who worked there were fine except for one or two. The facility was clean, the food was good. The activities were good, but my loved one wasn't able to participate unless I or someone else guided him and even then it was only a short time. But at times, he did like to watch. I think Colebrook Village is a good place, but it wasn't for my loved one.

My fathers new home

Value for cost - this one is the most difficult to answer. Although I know this facility to be with in the range of all the others in this area with the same care. I find the cost to be extremely expensive. Then there is an extra [fee removed] a month if the resident needs to be hand feed. I observed the feeding. The attendant was on the cell phone 80 percent of the time. If they are not feeding they are sitting around watching. I think they can do all three things at the same time with the number of attendants that are there and not charge for feeding. My personal opinion. Thank you. Also had a bit of a problem with billing.

I'm very happy because of the personal attention they provide. Within a week, everyone in contact with my loved one knew my name as well, which was very impressive. Everybody on the staff is very friendly - they are the number one good thing at Stonebrook Village.

Great

My aunt has been there for a couple of months now, I believe she is reasonably happy. She said she was speaking with some of the older residents and they informed her it is getting worse, which has her nervous. We as our family have absolutely no complaints and are very happy with our choice to move our loved one into Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks. The staff has always been warm, welcoming , caring and very friendly to us.

Provides a different level of nursing care, for loved one

Overall, it has been a very good experince. The care services is very good. My loved one likes the food, and seems to be happy. It seems to be the average value for the money. The care is really good. The nursing care is better, and different than other assisted living facilities. They provide a different level of care for my loved one.

I think they're trying. They're just understaffed / overworked.

I don't think there's enough staff to cover the number of residents. Some of the staff, because there's such a high turnover, don't get to know or make an effort to get to know the residents. Medication management has been an issue for the last three months, since pretty much day one, and we're still trying to work that out. Overall, the people who have entered Mom's apartment have been very nice. But there are those who are there just for the job and don't have an interest in interacting with the residents. The people who do interact with my mom are fabulous. Even though my mom is advanced in age, she is extremely cognizant and aware of her surroundings. She is well-read and up-to-date on current events, etc. And still most of the staff comes in to leave her meals or administer medications, and they don't engage. Maybe the just don't know how cognizant she is, but I really wish they would make the effort. From my conversations with the staff, the people they're hiring have more of a background in nursing homes rather than assisted living, and I think that factors into their lack of interaction with the residents.

Make sure you stay on top of the medical staff, communication between the staff is not good and that needs to improve. The community is a beautiful place and my loved one is very happy. I would recommend if you are going to be on the ball about your loved ones care.

Our Tour Experience

This was a nice one, similar to the place we ended up. Our virtual tour was very nice. The facility seemed clean and organized. I didn’t get to interact with a lot of people there, but the ones I did talk with were nice and kind, including some of the activities staff. In the end, we chose a place that was more conveniently located to my work.

Good experience

We chose Stonebrook Village because it was closest to family and the room sizes seemed to be better than others that we looked into, they were also better kept. They have been good with communication throughout everything that has been going on by sending things like newsletters and emails. I would recommend them to others looking.

The Review of Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks

It is a nice place. I believe each experience will differ. The food was good, and I liked it. The atmosphere was nice. It was larger one bedroom with a view. The staff was good when calling to check on my loved one. I was surprised of the additional costs due to additional support staff for my loved one.

When can I move in

We chose this community because of the location, it was also a nice facility. The food there was very good, there was a lot of variety. The room sizes are very nice and spacious, my mother in law has a 1 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and a deck . It was better than any apartment I have ever lived in. The other rooms I have seen such as the studios are nice as well. Our favorite part about this facility is they do things to get the families involved. They have a lot of family activities and the whole family enjoys going.

Nice Tour, But Not the Place For My Father

This is a good community, and my tour was nice. The community looks neat and tidy, everything appeared to be well maintained. The staff I met was kind and friendly. There were many factors that played into my decision where to move my father to. This is a nice community, just not the one for my father.

Plenty of care for the money. Very happy with Cedarbrook Village.

I just wish that the nursing staff was more hands on. There are certain things they can't do - for instance they can't touch the patient, and they can't put a heat patch on. There has also been some mix-up in the meds. I know that the nurses they have are LPNs, and not RNs. When I voice concerns, they respond in an okay manner. It's a beautiful facility. They offer a variety of activities - things like fitness classes, bingo, cooking activities. They bring in animals like dogs to boost residents' mental health, and they bring in singers / entertainment. I think it's a good value for the money.

Review for Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks

There not bad, but they're not as good as I was led to believe. They don't take the residents out as often as I was told. I was told/sold that they would go out to lunch of dinner once a week or go on weekly field trips. The actual schedule is nowhere near that. On the positive side, the staff always seems nice and helpful.
