It would help if the nurses could pay more attention to the patients. I notice this throughout all of the shifts. When I call they are somewhat helpful they say they are going to take care of what I am asking.

It's been frustrating to see how much has fallen through the cracks in the beginning. She arrived at Parkview during shift change which ended up being messy. The management has not been good. Her belongings went missing. Things such as not having a diaper on were overlooked. I feel like they just don't listen.

Personally, I haven't been happy. I feel the nurses aren't very attentive whatsoever. My dad has called me to help him because the nurses weren't. I feel like I've been doing more than the nurses. I get calls from the case worker, and she's very sweet and tries to keep me up to date as much as possible. I haven't gotten any communication from any doctors about what's currently going on.

My mother has constantly complained about things since she arrived and they fix things for a little while but then it goes back. There have been problems with her medications. The rehab is disorganized. The staff is not very friendly. The meals are not bad. The communication is overall lacking in all departments. They could be more attentive to my mother as well.

Therapy is going very well. They are sensitive to his situation and why he is there. They are quite friendly. A few men on the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. They kept me informed with a phone meeting. The facility is noisy, meals are late, meds are late and he has to go to the desk and ask. They were feeding him the things he cannot eat for 3 days before straightening it out.

Once I found the correct building, my tour was delayed until after lunch. All of my questions were answered. Lunch was OK with really small portions and very plain food: piece of baked fish, overcooked baked potato, and green bean casserole. Adequate nutrition but not very appealing to the eye or palate. One apartment with 2 bedrooms was very interesting. It had been updated and was the model for the complex now. Very nicely furnished with a floor plan that offered multiple use possibilities for the rooms. Common areas and hallways really needed renovating. The residents seemed quite content and very pleasant when meeting them. The overall cost is a bargain for this area.

There seems to be quite a difference between the night shift and day shift CNAs. The night shift takes much longer to get to the call lights to give care. The cleanliness is excellent, although I would like to mention that it seems as though the bleach smell can be overpowering at times. The food is horrible, very dry. We take food to my loved one every day. She is not the only resident complaining about the meals.

Look elsewhere

My MIL was at this facility since December 2013 and recently past away after having a stroke at the facility March, 2018. The entire time she was there the phone system was/is a joke. The person answering the phone doesn't know who the staff members are and what extension to transfer you to. The mid-level and executive staff do not return phone calls and/or e-mails. After having a meeting with the new staff members, as turn over occurs regularly, we were assured we would get responses. Nope. The caregivers do their best to help with the residents. The BIGGEST issue by far was the constant problem of medication. My MIL paid for medication management and it was mishandled time after time. We would perform audits and medicine would be "misplaced." Medication would be changed by my MIL's doctor and the facility would order the old medication. They would order medication months before it was due to be re-ordered. The frustration was so overwhelming we constantly debated moving her elsewhere. We did not because it would be more difficult for her to adjust since she had Alzheimer's. All in all, I will never place another family member in a Brookdale facility.

I wish they’d have walked my mom around so she could get stronger. They just subjected her to therapy in her room. I wish the nurses were quicker to respond to her care, sometimes she waited 30-45 minutes to be attended to. Everyone was friendly but I have plenty of friends, I needed someone to take care of my mom. The rooms were clean but the floors were not. There were stains on the floor and the last day she was there they were still on the floor. She enjoyed the meals but when she finally got them, they would be cold. I had to continually call them to get updated.

The facility needed to give more attention to the physical issues that I was having. They also weren't very punctual on giving medication for the first couple days. When I did get attention from the nurses, they were pretty good. The doctor came to see me, said he was going to look at my chart, and said he would come back later, then he left. Never seen him again. The staff was friendly enough. I would say that they are not very clean. No one took the time to clean me or anything else either. They fed me good.

My loved one ran out of her medication and they ordered more and they took 4 days to get it and there wasn’t much when it arrived. The first day she was there, the therapists did a questionnaire and billed us for a full therapy session even though they were only there for 20 minutes and the next day they did the same thing. On the third day they did the full therapy, but the fourth day they didn't do anything. The therapist was very rude after that. Most of the nurses were very nice, but there was one who was angry and not very kind. The bathroom was so dirty and smelled, there was stuff on the floor and in the toilet. My loved one said that in seven days they never mopped or swept, they never wiped down her tray. The food was terrible. And she got meals she never ordered. She ordered chicken and got a ham sandwich with no mayo or lettuce.

My husband had a terrible roommate. He was constantly yelling for help. The rehab should give wheat grass juice for breakfast, or natural oils in the air. I took him out of the facility after less than a day. The facility is very hot as well. Everyone in there was sweating and had their windows open, it felt like it was 80. Everything is clean, but everything they are using is [Removed]. My husband is a veggie and vegan eater, and they brought white pasta and Jell-O, they brought a chocolate doughnut for breakfast. They should know that they should be trying to give people more fruits and vegetables, not things in a can. We don’t put people in rehab to be the same or to get worse by eating that stuff. I would suggest that they go to integrative nutrition to get a better understanding of how to become more nutritious. They can turn the places where the grass is growing into a vegetable garden. Everyone should get frozen vegetables or fresh fruit smoothies for example. Any healthcare provider should find people who use natural foods to be the chefs.

Staff awareness

I tried 3 times to phone a newly placed resident. They acted like they didn't even know who she was. The 3rd try, I said, "It appears no one knows where this resident is. Would someone please find her and offer assistance if needed." The staff member took my number and said the resident would phone me back. She did phone back about 5 minutes later.

Medical care and staff knowledge if very lacking.

Moved dad in last week due to fall risk and health issues needing skilled nursing assistance. Facility has failed to get into their system he is diabetic despite daily discussions, they lost his insulin, and had not checked blood sugar levels until I insistent last night. As expected they were high and as a result dad was very lethargic. When I came into the room his oxygen was blowing in his eyes, not in his nose and personal care items were not being addressed. To top it off, I found staff did not realize their dining tables were adjustable, so they could have easily enabled his wheel chair to fit under the table... how can a care facility not know that about their own site! Very frustrated with the lack of medical care.
