over budget and did not have positive feeling about staff when at facility

This building is beautiful - and the staff as a whole is excellent. However the new manager, after near-year, still does not mingle with us. Nor does she know our names. Hours have been cut and people needing help do not receive it. A resedant who is , frankly evil, runs amok and in her underwear, calls the police, etc. and the manager just says she can't do anything. Sad, Sad, Sad!

Their initial brochure needs a distinct overhall,with more transparency available. There is more than gold that doesn't glitter. They don't clarify services,until you have severe ties with your previous residence. If you are in assisted living,your medications are locked up,and issued by a caregiver. Your prescriptions are required,to be purchased through Kroger pharmacy,or you are forced,to pay $5.00,for each medication,to be "bubble packed>" Assistance with bathing is only 2 (Two) showers per week;and the remaining days you'll have to hire someone to bathe your loved one. Medical transportation is two days a week,with reservations required one week in adv ance. The main dining room is "OFF LIMITS",to those assigned as "Assisted Living Residents." You are mandated,to a separate dining area.that is depressing. I am not aware of how Independent residents are treated;but Assisted Living I consider as Second Class.

My father was here for around 16 months. My siblings were disappointed at the care he received. Unfortunately he was very coherent but was bed ridden. He had to wait for long periods of time for help from staff. There was a large turnover of staff to complicate matters. The in-house doctor misdiagnosed dad and was slow to respond to big issues. Our family had to overcompensate to keep dad well and safe. Even when dad passed away suddenly at this facility there was a lack of compassion and care.

I was very disappointed with every aspect of Delmar Gardens. CNA's were not very attentive with health care of patients. Very knowledgeable and uncaring. Sometimes we did not even know who the CNA on staff for the day was even though they were suppose to be checking in during their shift. Poor leadership and management. No one worked together as a "team" to help oversee patient's care. Would NOT recommend this facility to anyone. Totally disorganized and uncaring.

My father has been here for 6 days. He is here for rehab after surgery. Since he has been here he has already done 2 full days of rehab which is great!! He is working hard to get better so he can go home!!! With all that hard work trying to get stronger he has worked up a bit of sweat!! Nice that in these 6 days that he has been here he has not been given a shower or sponge bath!!!!!!! After bringing this to the staffs attention they said that he will receive a shower tonight!! Thank god!! It is now 9:30 at night and still no shower!!!!!!! Guess his sleep isn't valued around here!! So now they are going to make him wait all night to get clean!!!! [removed] So angry I can't put it into words!!!!

I moved her to Delmar Gardens West in [date removed], which is a Skilled Nursing facility and does accept Medicare and Medicaid, she lived there for less than a year, until her passing in late [date removed].. I continued to visit my mother almost every evening and I give Delmar Gardens West a 1 on each of the categories listed. They are also understaffed, they have to get most of the care attendants from a temporary staffing agency, and the staff in general does not seem to really care about the residents. The care attendants are rushed, rude and generally in a bad mood. The buildings are somewhat old and not maintained well. They do have a laundry department with laundry staff, but it was also unreliable so I continued to do my mother's laundry at home every day. The facility smells bad throughout, like a combination of dirt, rotten food and urine, the carpeting is obviously old and thin and not kept clean in general. With the exception of just a few employees, the staff is generally noisy, lazy and loud, they spend too much time socializing with each other or on their cellphones and not paying attention to the needs of the residents. It is also run by a private for-profit corporation, they are not intimidated at all by the possibility of oversight by Dept of Health and Senior Services, and I contacted the state department several times with my complaints but it did not make a difference. The cost was very high and unfortunately my mother did not qualify for Medicaid until the last month of her life. She was a private pay resident with a private room and they don't treat private pay residents any better than they treat Medicaid residents. The front parking lot is too small and dangerous and often the staff parked there instead of in employee parking around the back of the facility. I don't have anything good to say about Delmar Gardens West and would not recommend it at all. Unfortunately it can be traumatic to move a senior citizen, and particularly my mother, so I did not move her again after she moved in in [date removed]. Since licensed skilled nursing facilities are liable for the health and wellness of the residents, the facility was continuously sending her to a hospital, various hospitals, always a different one, until they finally sent her to [name removed] in Creve Coeur in late [date removed]. Their compassionate medical staff recommended Hospice care for her and they managed her hospice care at Delmar Gardens West until she passed in late [date removed].

When the hospital discharged me, I should've gone home. But I trusted my doctors, so went to Delmar Gardens. I worked Disney for 8 years. I know the Happy business model facade. Upstairs is colorful, well lit. You see groups socializing, playing bingo or having a drink (yes, alcohol) at the bar. Employees do the Disney smile, which can be scary if out of place. It seems like a happy & fun place. Lower level is locked. Very bland. Very few employees. Some walk around like zombies, they never speak. Call for nurse takes over an hour to respond, if they ever do. I was fine when sent there for further PT. I left with a broken hip, femur & pelvis & torn tendon. Took 2-3 hours to get an ambulance to get me out of there. No more "facilities" for me. This time, I'll go home.

My father went there 9 years ago. They call me the end of January to tell me hospice is there with my father and he wants to see his two daughters. They didn't let me know his condition. I knew he wasn't eating nobody was feeding him he was falling out of the bed they didn't have the bed low enough he had cuts and bruises and Band-Aids on. I got real sick from him the whole month of [date removed]. I went to see him [date removed]. He dies [date removed]. . I did not get a call I called Monday I called every day that week finally on Friday the administrator answers my call and said oh your dad died Sunday like it was no big deal. Six out days go by before they even let me know. There is also a ladder in the hallway that was there for over an hour and a half I said this ain't healthy someone could trip even though the ladder was orange. I told three or four people funny the ladder got moved this was on a Sunday. Then I walked the hall I tripped on a rod I picked it up gave

My family member is there for rehab. The therapist is frequently a no show. He is a trip hazard so not supposed to have rugs. Guess what is in his room, that’s right a rug and a bed. But there is only a rug and a bed, no dresser, no light, and no tv. Delmar Gardens North leaves much to be desired, I can’t imagine what would happen if your family member couldn’t advocate for themself.

We did not have a good experience at Delmar Gardens Overland Park. They were understaffed and the employees they did have were overworked which affects everything. The social worker could not wait to get us out of here. There were a couple of really good staff members that they had, but overall would not recommend.

I felt really good about the community. This community was a bit to far away from where I wanted my loved ones to be. They are still driving and we wanted them to be in an familiar area without the highway.

My loved one lived there for a few years. The facility was wonderful at first; until the current director arrived. She is dishonest and rude. Almost all of the original staff have left. They have had an extremely high turnover since her tenure. I would really do your research before placing a loved one here. So sad this has happened to what used to be a great community for seniors.

DO NOT leave a loved one here! We lost our loved one because [name removed] thought she knew more and yet she has NO medical experience. She tells you when you suggest things that she has 32+ years experience and knows much more than any of us does her sidekick, [name removed], who spends more time with her dog each day. We see call buttons going unanswered, people lying in dirty briefs, people waiting for long periods of time in dining room for their meals and often give up and head back to their rooms hungry because they can't get served, medicine mistakes frequently, WWII Veteran's crying out for help and there isn't enough help in hallways but [name removed] is sitting in pretty office ordering personal online items and [name removed] is outside walking her pet dog and playing ball with herinside and outside. Great management team, right,??!! WRONG!!! [Name removed] still parks in Front Visitors spot everyday while we seniors visiting our loved ones can't get a close parking space. So glad they WILL have to answer one day to God because they sure do not answer to anyone right now

Are you joking this place is a night mare can't even a straight answer from the front they are Really good telling you what you they think you want to hear they are Lyers and theifs couldn't Care less just sign the contract and they will Lie to you about the So called house keepes who are Lazy' and the so called Supervisor is joke You can not understand any thing she says can't believe anything she says the place is really dirty the food is Horrible had my friend there for Two months the care is horrible can't find a nurse which they don't have Any nures only medicine AIDS and that's It don't be fooled they don't care Whatsoever they truly Lyers

An answer back to these reviews is great but what really needs to be done is for corporate to spend more time at Delmar Gardens on the Green so they can interview residents and their families and the "real" employees and see/find out what's really going on there on a daily/ weekly basis. We are all SO afraid to speak up to the two administrators because of retaliation and this is the absolute truth!!!

This facility is racist and I would not take any family member there. The administrator is racist.

If only the administrators had supervision and the corporate bosses could see what really goes on daily. Different rules for them or I should say NO rules. Why can they do what they tell their employees not to do??!! NO medical background for either administrator but yet they think they know everything. We are constantly told by them they have 30+ Years of experience. I have 70+ years of living and still learn something new everyday. WHY do you think there is such a BiG turnover of the real workers??!!! Just as us employees or the family of the residents.......but you don't care either!!!! Remember what goes around, cones around!!(

Please please please do not place your loved one in this facility. The entire staff cares nothing about you loved one if your loved one comes in with physical acitvites they can do such as walk or stand they are immediately stripped of that activity and forced into a wheelchair or bedridden and if your loved one talks to much or is too loud they over medicate until your loved one is in a full stupor. I have thousand of horror stories trust me look further.

My mother has stayed at the west and chesterfield locations on 2 different occasions. Both are absolutely horrible places. With the exception of a few astute nurses who bypassed the required protocol to help my mother, pretty much the rest of the staff is awful. Both times she was at Delmar, due to ooor diagnosis from doctors and staff, she almost died. Literally. Please be an advocate for your loved ones and don’t just take the house doctors assessment. The house doctor saw my mom for 5 minutes, said she was fine and denied the nurses request for an X-ray. The nurse called my moms real doctor and after taking her to st Clare hospital she was diagnosed with pneumonia and a blood clot in her lung. Unbelievable. I honestly believe she would have died at Delmar Gardens both times if those 2 nurses hadn’t been there to help get her to the hospital.
