My tour review

I felt really good about the community. This community was a bit to far away from where I wanted my loved ones to be. They are still driving and we wanted them to be in an familiar area without the highway.

Very unprofessional

My loved one lived there for a few years. The facility was wonderful at first; until the current director arrived. She is dishonest and rude. Almost all of the original staff have left. They have had an extremely high turnover since her tenure. I would really do your research before placing a loved one here. So sad this has happened to what used to be a great community for seniors.

Hell hole

DO NOT leave a loved one here! We lost our loved one because [name removed] thought she knew more and yet she has NO medical experience. She tells you when you suggest things that she has 32+ years experience and knows much more than any of us does her sidekick, [name removed], who spends more time with her dog each day. We see call buttons going unanswered, people lying in dirty briefs, people waiting for long periods of time in dining room for their meals and often give up and head back to their rooms hungry because they can't get served, medicine mistakes frequently, WWII Veteran's crying out for help and there isn't enough help in hallways but [name removed] is sitting in pretty office ordering personal online items and [name removed] is outside walking her pet dog and playing ball with herinside and outside. Great management team, right,??!! WRONG!!! [Name removed] still parks in Front Visitors spot everyday while we seniors visiting our loved ones can't get a close parking space. So glad they WILL have to answer one day to God because they sure do not answer to anyone right now

Corporate needs to be in the nursing home facility

An answer back to these reviews is great but what really needs to be done is for corporate to spend more time at Delmar Gardens on the Green so they can interview residents and their families and the "real" employees and see/find out what's really going on there on a daily/ weekly basis. We are all SO afraid to speak up to the two administrators because of retaliation and this is the absolute truth!!!

Worst management

If only the administrators had supervision and the corporate bosses could see what really goes on daily. Different rules for them or I should say NO rules. Why can they do what they tell their employees not to do??!! NO medical background for either administrator but yet they think they know everything. We are constantly told by them they have 30+ Years of experience. I have 70+ years of living and still learn something new everyday. WHY do you think there is such a BiG turnover of the real workers??!!! Just as us employees or the family of the residents.......but you don't care either!!!! Remember what goes around, cones around!!(

Looks are Deceiving

Please please please do not place your loved one in this facility. The entire staff cares nothing about you loved one if your loved one comes in with physical acitvites they can do such as walk or stand they are immediately stripped of that activity and forced into a wheelchair or bedridden and if your loved one talks to much or is too loud they over medicate until your loved one is in a full stupor. I have thousand of horror stories trust me look further.

Horrible place

My mother has stayed at the west and chesterfield locations on 2 different occasions. Both are absolutely horrible places. With the exception of a few astute nurses who bypassed the required protocol to help my mother, pretty much the rest of the staff is awful. Both times she was at Delmar, due to ooor diagnosis from doctors and staff, she almost died. Literally. Please be an advocate for your loved ones and don’t just take the house doctors assessment. The house doctor saw my mom for 5 minutes, said she was fine and denied the nurses request for an X-ray. The nurse called my moms real doctor and after taking her to st Clare hospital she was diagnosed with pneumonia and a blood clot in her lung. Unbelievable. I honestly believe she would have died at Delmar Gardens both times if those 2 nurses hadn’t been there to help get her to the hospital.

A niggtmare

I was sent there for rehab following auto accident. I spent 24 hours there and it was a nightmare. I had broken bones and had had surgery. Was nearly dropped by aides left on the toliet and forgotten about. Bed was the worse than sleeping on the ground. Walls thin so a very noisy place as I was surrounded by the howlers and screamers. Greasy food made me ill. When I arrived mid afternoon I was dropped off in my room, handed the tv remote and left by myself. No staff ever came in till the next day to greet me or access me and by then I had made it clear my husband was coming to pick me up and get me out of that hell hole. The 20 hours I spent there was a nightmare and the longest in my life. Do not send your loved one here or go there yourself!!

My mother had a transitional stay there over 2 months ago, then I moved her to another facility. The problem was when she had issues and I tried to contact the Director of the community, I never received call's back. I had to speak with the Business Manager, and she took care of the issues, which was extremely helpful. Who runs this place?

Do not go here - Family/Friend

DO NOT HAVE YOUR LOVED ONE GO HERE

My family has recently been told that our grandmother has declined rapidly due to her dementia. About a month ago we saw her through the window and she looked pretty good. The nursing home just told us that she stopped drinking and eating... so they suggested a feeding tube or hospice. We made a tough choice on Tuesday and asked to see her at the window that day and they said it wasn't a good time to accommodate our needs. It is now Thursday and we have asked to see her every day this week. They said this Friday would be a good day for them to wheel her TO THE WINDOW. HOW HARD IS IT TO JUST WHEEL SOMEONE TO THE WINDOW. That makes it 4 days of not being able to see her because we did not pick convenient time FOR THEM! I have put a call out to [name removed] on Tuesday and have not received a call from her and she is suppose to be in control of this situation. My suggestion is you have someone in this facility take them out now and if you are looking for a nice place for your loved one do not pick this place!! We do not trust them and what they are saying. We will be getting a lawyer involved.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE

I don't even know where to start. This place is not fit for any human being. The facility is awful and the care is worse. Prior to being hospitalized my dad lived at home, drove, and was mostly independent (except for walker dependent thanks to a foot drop). After being hospitalized my dad was transferred there and less than 24 hours later I initiated the transfer process (but he was still there 7 days total). I ended up doing a majority of the work because the social worker failed to call us back when my husband told her where I wanted him transferred to, and then she was off for 2 days. One morning they failed to serve him breakfast all together. He is bariatric and they failed to put him in a bariatric bed or have any other bariatric equipment for that matter. They did not make any effort to give him his nocturnal bipap until after he was there for 4 or 5 nights. They fail to have the most basic of medical equipment that senior citizens need including urinals and incentive spirometers. Over the weekend he was just left to lay in bed the entire time which the whole point of him being there was to get him pt/ot so he can go home. The only good thing I encountered about the place was the receptionist that answered the phone who was always very pleasant and the ability to do window visits whenever I wanted where I could speak through the screen. The place reeked of urine that I could smell through that window. He did receive decent care from the physical therapists and some of the other staff about 2 of the 7 days. They lost some of his clothing and so he was simply transferred without them (and was told "we will look into it" yea right). This place is not fit to care for such a vulnerable population,, or really any human for that matter.

Run like heck from this hell hole

Same old game they've always played. Taking care of lives isn't their top priority. Not enough help in the entire building but especially in the halls where oatients are. Filth in bathrooms where residents are showered, people telling for help and no one comes to help. Administrator still parks in very front visitor parking place, administrators dog still comes to work with her everyday and receives better/more care than any resident in the building. Administrators don't care about employees or residents. In fact my loved one died because of their stupidity and administrator didn't care or say she was wrong. If you leave anyone there, be there 24/7 for their safety. Check the hallways at midnight, not a soul will be found anywhere to help or watch your loved one. The administrator wouldn't leave her dog in any of the hallways because it wouldn't be safe enough for it. It stays in front office!!!!

Caring for your patients is NOT #1 your business!!! Putting on a fake show is what your business is about. When there isn't enough help in the hallways, how can caring for your patients be number one??!! When people are lying in their beds waiting for a drink of water, waiting to be gotten out of bed, waiting to have their briefs changed, waiting to be taken to the restroom, etc??? How can that be caring for your patients?? I see it every day in there when I'm visiting my loved one and I'm appalled to see what goes on and how little management does that is not business. Bragging about big trips, caring for the administrators dog, taking the closest parking spot away from a senior handicapped visitor by the head ministrator, administrators leaving early in the afternoon when they know the hallways are empty of help at night is NOT caring about the residents . This is the biggest joke and phoniest business I've ever seen that's supposed to be taking care of our seniors, veterans, people with horrific diseases, etc. The administr have deaf ears to the residents, families and even the employees. I pray to God you're all treated this way one day!!! Remember what goes around comes around.

BEWARE

My mother was here for almost 5 years. She was strong willed and not senile. They proceeded to heavily drug her so she would not be such a bother. She went from doing activities, going to the salon and getting her nails done and dressing nicely to practically a zombie in her bed. They left her alone and never changed her regularly. She developed a horrid, huge open bed sore. They could have cared less. Made me take her for treatment and I could not physically aid my mother in and out of the car. Thankfully, coming and going nice strangers came up and immediately assisted me. I found out this was not proper protocol. Going forward they had an ambulance service take us. They didn't even realize my mother couldn't stand alone anymore due to the seriousness of her wound. I put my trust in this facility to take care of my mother as I was single, working many hours with no assistance whatsoever from my 4 siblings. Relatives should not have to be on constant high alert about the lack of care in a place that is for the purpose of CARING for the elderly. I spent many, many hours there and nobody would check on her. And forget turning. I ran my legs off every visit trying to get proper attention for her. Had I not been in the middle of a divorce I would have hired an attorney and sued. Myself and a sister filed complaints with the state to no avail. You have to sue them. I moved her to Canton nursing home which was no better. Unpleasant staff, rough staff. We walked in unannounced one evening and my mother had a huge, red goose egg on her forehead and a major grimace still on her face. My ex stated "this just happened." An orderly showed up and looked like he'd seen a ghost when he realized we were there. No one knew what happened! Yeah, right. I believe she was left alone in a chair and fell out. My brother was in assisted living for many years. High functioning. Took care of himself. Next thing we know he's gravely ill. Seems they let him lay in bed without concern until it became apparent FINALLY that he was gravely ill. He was hospitalized for several months and never recovered from the severe neglect he suffered. To sum it up...I HATE nursing homes. None I've experienced are good. Too many peeps who dont want to work there and it shows. Along with over drugging and neglect they are hell holes. I watched my mother and brother take their last breath after being so horribly mistreated in these so called caring facilities.

Overhaul Needed just like at NBC

A quote to learn by "the reality is that the only way change comes is when you lead by example", Ann Wojcicki No truer way of fixing all the daily problems at DMG on the Green than by this quote. You fix management and you'll have a much better nursing home. You will have less turnover, too, which in itself is a huge cost saver. It's heartbreaking to talk to the residents and employees there and hear all their sad stories and situations that are happening in that building every day and NO ONE cares! Only days that are somewhat acceptable is when the State is in the building and administrator's have called in more help (which is what they need every day) and are actually out trying to do a little work in the dining room themselves; other than that so many people are sitting there with no love or care from anyone and no one will listen to their/our complaints.

Bad ecperience

Stay away. The topadministrator's non medical experience sent my loved one on a downhill spiral that lead to their death. She has no medical background but think she knows a lot because she has 32 years experience working in a n.h. give me a break, she and her sidekick both started out working in the dining room. The place needs good administrators with nursing backgrounds. They come out and act busy only when the State is in the building. Biggest phony operation we have ever seen.

I've been putting off writing this review because of grieving my aunts passing. I finally decided I can not put this off any longer. My aunt passed away in February of this year (2019). If I could give Delmar Gardens no stars I would. My aunt was 97 when she passed and was so lively and fragile at the same time. She had fallen at her assisted living facility in December and broke her collar bone and also had a small TIA. She was rushed to the hospital and stayed there about 5 days and recovered from her tia but she needed physical therapy and watched over more intently because she was a fall patient hazard. She was there for a couple of days and was very talkative and her rehab. was going very well. One day I came to visit her and she was comatose laying on her bed. She wouldn't wake up and I knew she was having a stroke. The nurses were very close to her room because the nurses station was there. I immediately came to them and told them what was going on. They didn't believe me and one physical therapist said to me to stop overreacting!! The doctor came in and stated that she had a stroke and wondered how long she was laying in bed. She immediately was taken to the hospital. She did in fact have a major stroke and stayed in the hospital for a few days. She really wasn't coming out of her stroke. Her speech was slow and she couldn't walk. I really didn't want to go back to Delmar. But I was talked into it because her belongings were there and they still had a bed for her. As each day passed at Delmar, she grew weaker and wouldn't eat. Everytime I came to the nurses station for help, they acted like they didn't know who she was. When she soiled herself, we would tell them and it would be 30 minutes or so before they came. I visited her every day and I noticed that noone was really looking out for her. I could not stay there 24/7 and we were paying a hefty room rate for them to be with her and comfort her when we couldn't. Granted this was around Christmas time. On January 3rd, the management came to us and said that she needed to go into Hospice. She was in hospice for about 6 weeks until she passed. I was pretty happy with the hospice staff that was contracted thru Delmar. But the Delmar staff were still very rude and not caring for my aunt. They still acted like they didn't know her. When she did pass, it was heart wrenching for me!! I loved her so much and took care of her during her healthy days. After we met with the funeral director the next day, we went to her room to gather her personal belongings. When we got there her room was completely made up and her stuff was gone. I went to the director and asked where they were and she didn't know. She said she would look for them. I finally got a call from the director 3 weeks later and she said that they were in a closet in another room! Not anyone from that Delmar staff said that they were sorry for our loss. No calls, letters......nothing from them. I will regret it for the rest of my life that we had my aunt stay in that Delmar environment!! If my aunt was aware of the terrible service, we would have made other plans. I miss her every day and she did live a full life. The only regret is keeping her at Delmar Gardens!
