My review of Cadence at Mt. Zion

We chose Cadence at Mt. Zion because when I met them in the beginning it seemed like it would be a good fit, they presented themselves very well and it seemed like the activities and food were up to par. It is a nice place with beautiful grounds. But they were not good w ith communication, you really have to stay on top of what is going on with your loved one which is hard due to covid. I think it would have been a better situation if we were allowed to come and go as we pleased.

Decent Tour, Not Impressed With the Memory Care Portion

I had a decent tour of this community. I toured it for my father, and his memory care needs. I wasn't impressed with the memory care section of the facility. It was separated from the rest of the community. I didn't like the layout of the memory care. I did not feel this was the right environment for my father, and his needs.

New residence

My mother in law move in 8 days ago. I found her sitting in urine with little or no help. My biggest problem is she/we were given very little guidance for being a new residence. She also developed a new cough in the week and half there and no mention from staff or in house doctor. I have voice complains. We see what steps are taken to improve the situations.

I will start by saying first, my dad did not want to be at Elmcroft. But as the family knew it was best for him to be in a safe home. He liked some of the food, not always the best. Housekeeping took out the trash more than they cared about the cleanliness of the room. Which my dad wasn't able to take care of himself. If you don't do your own laundry they will wash it and bring it back to you in a mess or hang it up in a wad. It seems the right hand never knew what the left hand was doing. We were in process of looking for a new home when my dad suddenly passed away. In the end not really impressed with the facility that I hoped my dad would learn to love and consider home. He never did. I know first hand they do not check on patients every two hours as they claim. Very short staffed for the number of patients they have. If your parents are able to care for themselves 100% it would be hard to put my parents in this home. Most of the staff seemed to care, but there are a more than a few that was there for a pay-check. If you are considering this any facility be ready to stay on top of them and CALL all the time.

Short staffed

They are kind of short staffed. I went to visit my Mother and take her to a Doctor's appointment. They never have her ready to go when they know she has appointments. I have found 2 lizards in my Mother's room. They have a lizard and rodent problem at this facility. My Mom is at the highest level of care and it seems that the staff is doing duties not assigned to them because they are short staffed. I feel like the other facility my Mother was in did a better job with her care.

Nice place, be careful with the medication service

UPDATED SEPTEMBER 2015: I have a post already on this page regarding the policy regarding medication and the use of their pharmacy. However I now have several months of REALTIME experience with this facility, as my mother has now been at this facility since June 22, 2015 and todays date it Sept. 5th, 2015. This is going too sound impossibly odd, but I have had an absolute SAGA getting the bedsheets changed weekly. I've spoken to upper management 3 times, yesterday became the 4th time. I arrived and asked my mom if the sheets had been changed on Thursday as promised by management, she said no, and that the spots were still there. Spots????? I went and checked my mothers bed and there was feces smears on her sheet. Management gave me the same excuses they'd given me before, that this was a training issue for staff. My observation: Not enough staff for the actions required for the services promised. I'd suggest you visit the facility a lot, if I was an absentee child, I have no idea how many days my mom would have slept on soiled sheets. Depressing. JULY 2015 In terms of the care provided by the aides and the facility in general I think Elmcroft of Twin Hills does a good job. However, I would advise families look very carefully into their medication plan, if they have a loved one requiring any sort of medication. Any sort of medication has to go through Elmcroft's pharmacy, which was not made very clear to us during the sign-up process.

There have been some real issues.

The first week she was there she was robbed, they took some jewelry, and then they came back a couple of weeks later and a few other people were robbed. She woke up in the middle of the night and there was a lady standing over her and said she was doing the laundry, at 3:00 in the morning. I have called and never have been able to get a response. There was another person who ran this community before and they were top notch, that person is not there anymore. The people in the cafeteria are nice and the nurses are really good, but Suzanne who really runs the place, doesn't seem to have very much business sense.

Educate yourself on real capabilities of the facilities regardless of sales pitch

While [name removed] will promise to let your loved ones age in place as a selling point on the front end, ultimately it's not her call and is up to head of nursing how long they stay and when they go. Deceptive sales. Other than that, pretty good place.

The staff is not trained well, and the leadership is more concerned with money vs patient care. They are not equipped to handle memory care patientence but they say they do. They basically lack professionlism, they are not able to deescalate situations among the residence.

Cadence Marietta

My father transferred from a new community near by to Cadence Marietta. Cadence also a lot closer to the hospital he was assigned to less than five minutes away, which was a huge benefit. We never saw any issues with the community's cleanliness. The issue here was with the staffing because there was not enough well trained staff. After 5 o'clock and at night, the staff gives much lower quality care. We think this is because they didn't have the budget to pay better people because they were paying so much to keep the building looking nice. During the day the staff is great. They are very friendly, accommodating, and responsive to visitors and families. After the day staff is gone, families are still allowed to come in 24 hours a day, it is much different. For one thing, it is very dark in the parking lot because some of the lights are out and they have not changed them after repeated requests for them to do so. We feel that at night, there isn't enough attention given to the residents by well trained aids. The meals were excellent. There is definitely someone in the kitchen who cares about the presentation for the residents because the food was great. The dinning room is like a home. We would eat there often as a family and we always enjoyed that. My dad didn't often participate in the activities, but there was definitely an effort to organize things for them to do often.

Cost Beyond Our Reach

It's still a nice place, but the costs are at least doubling on Jan. 1. It will be more if one needs more help. What we liked about Elmcroft was that all care was inclusive, but the facility was sold, and now the costs are sky-rocketing.

Look around especially if your loved one needs assistance

Our family was new to the concept of assisted living when we started with Elmcroft. There are friendly staff here and they do care about the residents. The facility itself is also nice. However, they are understaffed and promise to do more than they are really able to do. There were significant gaps in care. Accounting was never consistent and often a process of rechecking bills to verify their accuracy. This process itself was scattered and not consistent. After leaving this facility our family member stated over and over again that they didn't want to return due to not feeling properly cared for with medication and supervision.

Not Even Doing The Basics

It has been a few months and I have noticed they are not providing the basic care for my love one. In the beginning I asked what I needed and they said they were able to do it all. Now I am exhausted making sure they do as they are suppose to. The director has a great personality and ensures things will improve but they it don't last. They have a mixture of good and unprofessional workers. To improve they can screen their employees better

promises made but n ot kept

We put mom here in July. Told the staff about mom's dementia. They said they could handle mom with a little prompting. We were paying the lowest rate $71 per day. In October we were contacted and a meeting was scheduled. We thought they would probably want to increase her rate to the next level. We were told after they said they could handle mom and only 3 mos there we were asked to leave. Told us they were not a memory care place. The move in was tough on all of us but the move out has been very inconvenient. Be very aware of promises made and promises kept.

Care was not appropriate

We ended up not having a good experience here and moving my loved one out. The level of care was not appropriate. When we were touring they made it sound like the care they provided in assisted living would have been sufficient for my loved one, but it was not. The facility itself was clean, and the staff were friendly, but be sure the level of care if appropriate for your loved one.
