Don't be fooled by the attractive building and setting

The 1.5 star rating is for the doctors. They are great. The administrative staff and some of the nursing staff, on the other hand... horrible. Dad had to be rushed to the ER a week ago. He was ready to be discharged yesterday to CareOne. I spoke with [name removed] in admissions who confirmed she was holding a bed for dad - promised me to save it until the following day. Once I received the call from [name removed] that dad was ready, I called [name removed]. It took SIX calls before the Receptionist put me through! Each time, she put me on hold for upwards to 4 minutes! I finally spoke with [name removed], only to learn that she gave my dad's bed away and they could not take him! Here I am scurrying, as there was nowhere for dad to go. Dad is unable to walk and could not go home. He had to be placed in a rehab and, despite my dad having been a patient at CareOne on numerous occasions since February, they gave up his bed. Moving backward... on Friday a week ago, I scheduled dinner for dad. Confirmed with THREE people that he needed to be in his wheelchair and not to feed him dinner. Instead, upon arrival, he was IN BED and was FED! It took the nurse and aides (behind closed doors) ONE HOUR to get him into his wheelchair, as there were no trained personnel there to lift him! The next morning, he was rushed to the hospital for internal bleeding.

This was not a good choice for my mom

We had hoped that CareOne at Wayne was going to work out for the type of care my mother was going to need. We were upfront with them about her dementia and they did do an assessment before she was accepted and we moved her there. But in the end, they could not address my mothers needs and they informed me that I would have to arrange for an outside aid to come in and give my mother the one on one care she had to have in order for her to remain there. I made those arrangements at an additional cost but in the end, CareOne still could not accommodate my mother so we were forced to move her to another facility.

Think twice.

I was in rehab Jan. 2017. First impression was that rooms are poorly maintained ... walls need painting, plumbing needs repair and poorly staffed. Nightly noise was terrible with patients screaming for help. Thought I was in insane asylum. Food was very good. Physical and occupational therapy was excellent! If it wasn't for the therapy I would not return.

Disappointing lil snakes

Therapists were friendly, informative and cooperative. Nurses were constantly changing and they have too many patients per nurse. Asked for simple things like dirty laundry be put in bags and for nurses to talk to my mother in law before doing any work. That seemed to be a problem for them. They requested a cat scan of her one evening. They gave her bed away as she has to be admitted for at least 24 hours at the hospital. Snakes! The social worker nor assistant of nursing would return our phone call. Very shady things being done here. They will talk the talk to your face, but won't follow through and get rid of you.

Very negative, unhappy, and unprofessional administrator (when shes even around). The culture of the building has changed due to this. A lot of staff turnover rate which means zero consistency. Truly disappointing this is acceptable.

Staff seem completely miserable due to toxic administration. Every time I come to the building, another staff member is leaving to go to another Harmony. Admin talks low of staff behind their back and lacks a lot of important emotions to work with such a vulnerable population. Very sad to see.

I toured this community and was overall not impressed. Everything told to us seemed scripted or made to feel you are getting some deal. The setup reminds me of a hospital rather than an assisted living. The place smelled good which is how it should be. Staff did not look very happy, were on their phones, and the administrator has a very negative presence. We felt very uncomfortable.

Would highly recommend exploring other options

The facility has potential, but room sizes are very small, although you are told they are never in them. Food is decent, but never seems to be on time. The administrator is rude to both families and staff, regularly ignores family concerns, lacks empathy or motivation on wanting to do make this a better place. Everything is a sales pitch and promised to you just to get your money. The facility has seemed to experience a high turnover of staff which is concerning for both residents and loved ones for consistency.

Bad facility

My complaints are as follows: 1. Inadequate Pain Management: My wife, who had undergone two surgeries--one for her hip and another for her ankle--was in severe pain. Despite repeatedly requesting pain medication, her needs were not promptly addressed. The medication was provided only after significant and unnecessary delays, which caused her considerable distress. 2. Inexperienced and Undertrained Staff: It became clear that the staff lacked the necessary training or experience to handle patients in critical post-surgical recovery situations. This incompetence jeopardized my wife's health and well-being. 3. Difficult Transfer Process: My wife requested to be transferred to [community removed], a private rehabilitation facility. However, [name removed], who handles transfers, created unnecessary obstacles and made the process far more difficult than it should have been. 4. Profit Over Patient Care: It is evident that CareOne prioritizes business interests over patient health and recovery.

Not what it was or as represented

The turnover for administrative or management staff is a spinning wheel. The staff is caring and kind; unfortunately tho understaffed or undertrained. The care provided falls short of what is contracted or promised. Activities are stale and not well attended. Seemingly prices increase while care provided decreases.

Not what it once was

My mother is currently a resident at CareOne in Sharon. It was a wonderful and caring facility when it was known as Whitney Place; but no longer! In memory care, many of the staff are not proficient in English and are not understanding what is being asked of them. Some of the newer aides are given a very short training, then sent out on their own. A senior aide is supposed to be supervising the new employee, but too often, the one supervising says the trainee “ is good” and “knows the job”. So, for the remainder of the orientation, the new employee is left to their own devices, and the one that’s supposed to be training, is sitting- gabbing on their cell phones. My family pays extra for more frequent checks, but if a family member is visiting, or if hospice is in, check don’t happen. Finally, very few of our original aides remain, because they continue to pay poorly.

Run far far away

DO NOT submit your loved ones to Care One in Livingston! Staff is dismissive of ALL concerns, Food is horrible and full of sugar despite diabetes. Patients are screaming for help, and ignored, day and night. Nurses don't respond for 30 to 60 minutes to requests. Elderly patient (with dementia) was left to lay in diarhea for an hour and given no medication for it because it was on the floor and they needed "a sample." When family complained they tried "corporate smooz." He transfered to another facility!

If I could give this location zero stars...

If you are looking for a Memory Care facility, you have to take the time to reflect on the appropriateness of a care model that is simply an attempt at keeping aging seniors and their money in house when Assisted Living is no longer appropriate. There needs to be a regulatory body that overseas what is considered true Memory Care beyond a locked unit. My loved one was removed from this facility when it advertised as [removed]. Her physical well being was compromised by a scarcity of trained staff-staff that was completely overwhelmed by a lack of training, a lack of communication and a medical support system that was simply an LPN on duty. A third party recommended and then insisted on her removal and placement in a skilled nursing facility. That should be the gold standard for Memory Care residents. ASL have no business offering a care model that cannot possibly benefit the long term care of these medically and emotionally fragile patients.

EXTREMELY UPSET

My rating of Harmony would have been a 5 star rating, but when we were sold on coming here, we were told we would be able to transition to medicaid after a 2 year self pay and maybe a couple additional months. As we approach the 2 year marker, now they are telling us that our parent doesn't have a medicaid bed. available for her possibly wouldn't have one for up to 3 years. Has anyone else had a similar issue with Harmony Village?

DON'T SEND YOUR LOVED ONE TO CARE NONE

In one word AWFUL. Run far away from this facility. My parent was there years ago. The food was horrible. Taste was tasteless and it looked like diarrhea. We were talked into putting him into their dementia unit promising that he would have better care. He would call for assistance and have to wait sometimes over 30 minutes. Complaints go nowhere. The workers were overworked as CARE NONE did not have adequate staffing. I eventually had to contact the state ombudsman as it got so bad.

Run way from this place

You can not speak on this place if you where there for couple hours. I was a patient there for rehab. I had back surgery and went there for physical therapy. Therapy was great. I ended up in ICU, if it wasn't for my daughter I would be dead. They didn't clean my wound for the first four days. I got an infection, the nurse over dosed me with to much of meds, I had to choose either take shower or get my support stocking. I was admitted to hospital with blood clots in both legs, kidney failure, infection. Was in ICU for 6 days and in hospital 25 days. The nurse in hospital calls this place No Care. The hospital, gets lots of there patient. I for got I has dry skin on my feet. Three times I had to tell the nurse it was for my feet not my private part. Run away as fast as you can. Nothing good about this place.

DON'T send your Dementia/Alzheimer's familty member to CareOne

If only I could give CareOne a zero star! My father has advanced Alzheimer's disease. Following a hospital stay, the director of nursing from CareOne went to visit my father at the rehab to assess if CareOne would be able to care for his needs. The director was given full access to the nursing notes at the rehab and advised me that they would indeed be able to care for him. Once moved in, dad had 3 falls in 5 days due to the lack of supervision and required me to have a 12 hr. companion while he was awake to assure he did not fall. The cost of a companion adds $1,500 weekly to the already high cost of care but I was willing to help with his transition. They were unable to properly manage his prescriptions in order to address his agitation and most days he was either agitated or drugged up and unresponsive until he was sent back to the hospital. I was notified that he would need Geri Med Mgmt. The hospital diagnosed him with delirium from overdosing of his meds. The hospital also felt CareOne was not capable of caring for my dad based on the prescription issue and the 3 falls in 5 days. I have since moved my father to a facility that specializes in Alzheimer's patients and in less than a week, he is thriving. He is more alert, eating well and carrying on conversations with visitors and residents. I would not recommend CareOne to anyone that has an Alzheimer's or dementia family member, they are inadequately staffed and just don't care about the residents.
