My sister has been in this facility for one year. The staff give excellent care. I rated the facility a 2 because of the awful food. The residents have complained for months to no avail. Food is cold, overcooked, chicken last week was burned on the outside & raw inside and baked potato cold. Soup is cold. It is a shame that this facility cannot hire a chef that knows how to cook. What a waste of food that is thrown away.

Little Too Late For Showing Improvement

When you feel the need to remove a loved one from a facility then you know things are bad. Despite the numerous discussions and concerns that have been brought forth things are slowly starting to change for how long hopefully permanently but who knows. There is poor communication between staff issues with medication. We no longer feel that it is in the best interest to keep our loved one there so we are taking them out.

This community is not making us happy at this time. We have had to talk to staff about a few small things, but they do seem to cancel often to bring things to their attention. My father is not pleased with the memu. My father was not able to see a nurse when he was ill. The staff are very nice, but have a hard time with follow up on issues that need to be brought to their attention. At this time I could only suggest that families take a tour of this community for the care of a family member

Lack of communication!

The Autumn House East staff do not communicate with the family when needed in cases such as a fall or any bumps or bruises. When we visit no one seems to go in and check on her. They do offer many activities. My mom has no complaints about the food and eats well.

Before we even moved my mom in they said they would have the room cleaned and cupboard moved, they did not do it so we had to move her in to a dirty room. My mom has been there for a little over a week now, her room still has not been cleaned. I was sitting there visiting one night and they forgot to bring her supper and when I went to them and asked where her supper was, all they did is apologize for not feeding her and never once asked what they can get her to eat. And there was one night she asked the caregiver for a pain pill and the nurse never brought it to her. Starting to get a little concerned about this place and it has only been a week.

Should seperate different care needs

I wouldn't have my mother here, the AC is in the hallways but not the rooms. The people that live there, ya, they do get cold but what about when the weather changes? The dining room is a nightmare, if you have any sense of style. Its the gaudiest red carpet you've ever seen in your life and it has an antique-y pattern , its a big big room with a whole bunch of these tables in it, they bring everybody in, no matter how your care needs are so you had a lot of people who needed a lot of help with people that didnt and it was just distracting for the peopel who didn't need help. They don't enjoy eating in that room and I don't blame them. Then in the halllways there are people sitting out there that don't really seem to know what's going on, which is fine, but they should have certain hallways for certain needs patients so that you can communicate with like people and communicate on the same level.

Disappointed

I was very impressed by the beauty and the friendly atmosphere at first. My loved one was there and, while many of the staff were very friendly and helpful, there is one aide-[name removed]-that is allergic to work. I would walk in to visit my mom and my mom would tell me that she had been waiting to get help to the bathroom over 45 minutes (time and time again)! That aide would sit at the desk or eating or hiding in the nurses station or no where in sight when she was working my mother's section. I complained to the person they told me to go to which was the care coordinator, but to no avail. One of the aides told me she was disgusted with them and was turning in her notice and she was one of the hardworking aides! My mother has passed, but I went in to visit another resident recently and was shocked to find out that those two were still there. I am very disappointed and truly wish that the upper management will eliminate these aides from the building. I regret not going to the higher ups as I feared retaliation. I feel that I have to make this right now and know that the needs of others in the community are being properly cared for.

I am over there a lot to help mom with personal things cause they don't have the help to do it. Always problems with her medicine. They have high turn over of help. Since mom has been there went through so many nurses and med techs. Some residents really need bathing between body odor, the urine smell is bad. It's really sad. Some of the help are not friendly and just are there for a paycheck. You can tell don't even talk to the residents it's like they have blinders on. I don't like being disrespected from there help.

Memory care was unacceptable

My family member was there less than a month. The care was terrible. The aides rarely interacted with the residents. My family member was over medicated with inappropriate drugs. The facility is beautiful but not a good layout for memory care residents. I strongly do not recommend this Memory Care facility.

Sales pitch misleading

Our experience was not a good one. I took Harvey out in less than 48 hours. The friendliness of the staff gets a 2 except for the woman who gave the sales pitch, visited our home, and signed us up. The staff gets a 3, but the administrator did follow up quickly after my letter!

This place was not very good--she was only in there for a very short time but the time she was there they weren't very responsive. The ladies in the office were extremely nice though. It was a pretty old facility. We pulled her out in less than a month.

Disappointed

They are having a lot of problems keeping staff. They also do not follow through on requests-such as giving my Dad his Repatha meds for his heart. I'm taking my parents out at the end of the month. I have more insight than other families as I was a life care coordinator. One thing that's not my parents but upsets me is that a resident there clearly has dementia. She needs one on one care. But she's left to roam the halls alone. I watch CNA's ignore her. It makes me very upset. It could be a great place. It's just not.

Poor

My mother was there for 9 days. Not a good experience I found her sitting in a room w window open and 50 degrees. Shirt soaked through w slobbery. They didnt give her Parkinson's meds for the first 7 days even though they asked us to bring them in. Biggest thing she fell on day two if the month suffered 2 neck fractures. Not one person called to see how she made out. They wanted their money for the month though. They made out on that deal. Would not recommend.

If we’re paying you to care for our elderly, then why did we have to come in 3 times a week and bathe our grandma whose basic hygiene wasn’t being watched by the staff? This was a horrible experience and I will make sure that everyone within York County is aware. Moldy food left to set around her, inconsistent room check ups. Things that should never happen at that price point (or ever) lol.

Please make sure enough staff is available at the home you send your loved one to.

Post-Covid they did not have enough help. The people who were there were good, but there were not enough of them by far. When my mother would go to the doctor, I would meet her there. The day she had her last stroke, the man in charge of transportation at Autumn House called me and said he didn't think they should send her to her appointment because she was sick and throwing up. So I went straight to Autumn House and found her in her wheelchair in her room, with vomit all around her, with no one around. She had had a second stroke, and they just left her be. Her necklace never worked from the day she went in to the day she died. Anytime I would push the call button for her, nobody came. They wanted their money, but they did not have enough staff. We had a very bad experience, and I believe my mother could have lived longer had they provided more help.

All that glitters in golden years is not gold

We moved my loved one in a few months ago and the day we moved him in we had lunch and the lunch was fabulous. Within 2 days of him being here the chef was not here anymore and the food quickly went downhill. He was getting cold meals delivered to him with no condiments. One of the reason we moved him in was because he needed assistance with personal hygiene. We asked for 2 showers a week and for the first 2 weeks they did not even come by. In 2 months he only had 4 showers total. All of the things that they promised in the beginning have not been carried through with. It is a poorly run facility and it has not been a good experience for us.

Very nice facility, but poorly managed care in memory care

I moved my mom into the memory care unit in this facility. I had a number of requests that were never resolved about dietary needs. She ended up in the hospital due to what Dr thought was probably just dehydration. That was one of the dietary concerns I had. They failed to get a requested walker after a mild stroke until Hospice did it for me. When covid 19 hit , Gables quickly issued an email letter stating that if a patient tested positive they would be removed from the facility and would be our responsibility until covid free for two weeks. I immediately contacted the state ombudsman and that practice was removed. When I moved her to a new facility i am not an expert but I was amazed at the improved level of care she got there and how quickly her health improved. The hospice care people were very pleased with the care and practices(and privately shared with me how good the new facility care and practices were). She improved enough to be removed from hospice.
