Excellent care and very clean! More variety of food options, especially for dinner would be good. Sometimes the options are soup and sandwich which weren't filling enough.

Nice place, overall

Overall we've been very pleased with how things have gone at Hillside Assisted Living! It's a nice looking place, and the staff have all been wonderful. Everyone here is friendly and going, and they do a great job looking out for the residents. My only concern is that they don't have any doctors on staff.

Good community, weird smell.

They are a pretty good community. It's clean and friendly and all of that. When you walk in though there is an odor, it's not like what you expect, I think it comes from the kitchen, maybe. Air freshener, or some kind of air circulation or filtration system, to keep it vented.

I was pleased with the service. Everybody was friendly and very caring.

I was pleased with the service. Everybody was friendly and very caring. They called her by name from the very beginning. They had a lot of activities going on. The food is really good. If a resident doesn't show for breakfast or lunch they check to make sure everything is ok. I really liked how attentive they were.

The community is wonderful. Very warm and inviting residents and staff. The facility in general could use a little updating, but to be honest I think most of the residents like it a little "old fashioned". It is a bit worn in areas. The food, however, is excellent. Freshly made entrees and a great variety and plenty of it. The activities also abound with many options to fit all lifestyles.

Meals Could Be Better

I think they could improve on the meals. They have a lot of things that they warm up. The med techs, they need to be more friendly. They're okay but they can raise their voice and they get a little upset at the person they're helping. I think if there is a problem they need to walk away. My mom is there. I came unexpectedly and one of the med techs was yelling at my mom in her room. She's having a hard time adjusting because she doesn't want to take all the medicines that they were giving her. Now she's refusing to take the medicines because they're making her sleepy and she doesn't like that. We're trying to get her evaluated soon.

Attentive staff

When we shopping for a place for our mom, we checked out 3 places that was close to home (for familiarity) and that would meet her monetary capabilities. There was only one that met her care needs. When we walked into her now current care giver facility the first thing we saw were staff members. The other two facilities was not like that at all. While we were interviewing the administrator an alarm went off, immediately we saw staff members running down the hall way to administer emergency care. Very impressive. We were sold on the spot. Waldon Woods is a great place for our mom.

Really Good With My Mom

They're really good with my mom. They actually get her to smile and laugh which is hard to do. The cost has gone up but my mom's care has also gone up so I understand that. They do really well. She's now in a wheelchair. When she started she was able to us a walker and get around a little bit but she's had a few falls while trying to use the walker by herself which she shouldn't have been doing. She does pretty well with the wheelchair but they're really good about helping her around too. She likes bingo. They do have crafts but my mom has Parkinson's so it's hard for her. It would be nice if there was something besides bingo for her but she does like that. I've requested baths 3x a week and they make sure to do that. Anything that I've asked them to do they are really good about doing. They're quite good with her and check on her every hour.

Exceptional Staff!

We found it to be very accommodating. The staff is exceptional. My mom is pleased and she's quite fussy. Any issues they attend to quickly. I've come at all hours of the day and I'd say every shift is good. I haven't run into anybody that I've had a problem with. It seems like there could be some more activities and mom's room is rather small but it works for her right now.

I liked this one the best however although we don't know the price range yet it will most likely be higher than what she can afford. Pros - can accommodate up to 100 residents which would give her a wider range of friends to choose from. Residents were from all stages of life which would provide a larger range of ladies she can socialize with. Activities were the best out of the three visited. Suites were spacious and had a sink and small fridge. Dining area was large and very nice. Choice of two meals to choose from for lunch and dinner. Her own mailbox which gives her a feeling of independence since the mail is very private to her. Hallways had lots of areas to stop and sit in a comfortable chair if they needed to. Residents are encouraged to decorate their white pretty doors as well as have a shelf outside of door to place nick knacks or a special picture. Comfortable and spacious living area with large fireplace. Cons ... mass is held in an area where residents can smoke on the other side of the glass doors. Garden area is not smoke free. Concerns about ratio of staff to residents.

My Tour Experience at Autumn House West

I liked the community and it was family oriented. Their memory care unit is a secured unit, and we were able to find a community that allowed my loved one to go into assisted living.

My Tour Experience

I had a virtual tour at Autumn House West. It just didn't seem to be as nice of a facility as the one I ended up choosing, yet it actually cost more.

Good place. Awful food.

Staff is great! Rooms are really nice. The entire facility is kept very Clean and beautiful. They keep it nice looking. Comfortable feeling here. Food is awful. Generally served cold. Generally tastes terrible and the chef does not care. Many people have spoken to him, he says it is what it is. Although there was a meeting with residents, it has not changed.

A Positive Experience

When my friend had an accident and needed help to recover, she went into Elmcroft until she was able to go back home. For the most part, she was very satisfied with everything here. The community was clean all the time. The only complaint was about the food, it was not very good.

Good community but didn't meet care needs
