a great place for mom

The Gables of Canton is a nice place to be. it's very clean and affordable in comparison to a lot of other assisted livings we looked into. their laundry services could use some improvement, they have lost a few of our loved ones items so far. we were under the impression that they did the residents laundry individually, but it seems like everything is all washed together. because of that, she's lost socks, sheets and things like that. so far they have responded well to any issues or concerns. they do allow pets and no smoking to my knowledge. we especially like that its all on one floor so its easy for her to get around places like to the dining and activities room. she likes to sit outside, and they have a few doors that lead to the courtyard. there's also some putting green outside, which is neat because she used to golf so she likes that as well.

Good experience

What stuck out was the ease of access of the facility for family. She is no longer here, but it is nothing that they did, they were wonderful. They brought her back from a horrible place that she was in. The activities director [name removed] especially was an amazing person, she was so kind to my mom and we really appreciated her.

Meet Our Expectations with Checks and Balances

Our experience with our loved one has been good, but you need to make sure to communicate with the staff on a regular basis. The staff communication with the family hasn't been very good. The community recently changed administrators, and there was no communication towards the families with this information. The care has been good and I feel it could be better. However, my loved one seems to be in good hands and is in good spirits. Some of the activities that are available are movie nights, music, bingo, games, and more for the residents to choose from. The community tries to engage the residents by bringing them out to the common area to watch the activities. There is a good variety of food and the dietary options are good as well.

We're not looking anywhere else.

The people here seem to be well cared for. We came here because the staff and the residents were so friendly. When they have activities, those are wonderful. My loved one particularly enjoys the live entertainment. That doesn't happen every day, more like once a week. We would love to see music events more often. I feel the cost is competitive with what everybody else is charging. It's a month-to-month place with no contract, and her apartment is lovely. She's comfortable. I'm comfortable. The executive director is a very nice man. He was another reason why we came here.

Would Recommend

I was happy with it, glad I put my Mom there. She is happy to be there, except with the food. I think they have their challenges with staffing issues due to covid. They are doing the best that they absolute can.

Community Tour

The facility was beautiful. The people were very, very nice. It reminded my mom of a hotel. So for her, it was too big, and she was afraid she would get lost and confused. But I was very impressed with it. The food was wonderful too. They even gave us food to bring home.

My tour review

I liked the pricing at this community but it would change depending on future needs and there was another community that was fixed that worked better for my loved ones budget.

A decent place for your parents.

It's more on my father than it is on the community, but I can't get him to go out of his apartment to do things. I think it's a nice place, and there are activities he could be participating in. The apartment is nice. It's spacious, and the pantry is amazing. I like the location of his apartment overall, but it's very far from the entrance, which is tiring for him to make multiple trips. That's something to keep in mind when choosing an apartment for your loved one. The quality of the food seems fine. He just complains that they just can't seem to get his order right sometimes.

Autumn House A Well Organized, Comfortable Facility for Your Loved One

It is nicely organized. They have lots of activities for assisted living portion. They have nice rooms and a nice dining room. The activities on the memory care floor seems to be stark and there isn't much atmosphere. The floor is remote from other floors. I'm disappointed in the distance to get to the activities on the main floor and to be involved in other activities. The staff are very accommodating for the family that is out of town.

Friendly Staff

I was really impressed how they kept covid out for so long besides one case. They followed all of the protocols and kept the people safe like they needed to. They tested everyone and stayed on top of all of it. The one thing that I do think they need to improve is the cleanliness with the bathrooms and making sure that they are well taken care of due to the residents abilities.

Our Tour Experience

Our tour at Autumn House West was not bad, no complaints. The hallways were maybe a little more convoluted, which made it harder to find your way around. And they just didn't have the ability to provide level of care we thought our loved one would need coming out of a rehab facility.

Good people trying to keep people like my parents comfortable & safe, which is very challenging right now.

We moved both my parents into Azpira. With their health declining, I needed to get them in quickly, so I didn't have the time to look around as much as I wanted to. But I took a chance with Azpira. I liked the feel when I walked in. It was clean and bright. But their number one challenge, and I'm sure it's a national challenge, is understaffing. The first night my parents were there, my father had a medical emergency in the middle of the night, and my mother went to look for staff and couldn't find anybody. So I had to go over there in the middle of the night and found the two staff members asleep. My mother was traumatized by that circumstance, and I was very unhappy as well. But, after that terrible first night, the people who run the place went out of their way to take care of my parents for the remainder of their stay there. The director was really honest and fair with me about the realities of trying to keep this place open with the staffing limitations she's been dealing with. And I appreciated the honesty. One of the things I think people want from assisted living is just an honest assessment of competence of staff, number of people on staff, things like that, despite what the shiny brochures say. And a lot of these facilities are just chronically understaffed, which is a shame for the families. After that night, which was about as bad as things can get, I don't think they tried to treat my mother any differently than anyone else in their care, but they were really aware that that's not how you want things like this to start, and that's not what they want for their residents or families. I was very pleased with the level of honesty I got from the director and the people who had to make the decisions for my parents. Another challenge with understaffing was keeping the dining room open. They were doing delivery to the residents individually, which affects the quality of the food. And nobody can fix that. My mother would complain it was bland and cold, but that's because it's being served in a big facility on trays and crates with a limited number of staff. They finally were able to open up the dining hall, which they had been trying to do for a while. Another challenge was with the night nursing staff. They just can't find people to work overnight who are qualified nurses at competitive wages.

A Community That is Making Every Effort to Give the Best Possible Care

This has been a better community than others that my friend has been in. They put effort into the care of the memory care residents. The staff communicate well with the families of the residents. The community is making every effort they can to assist the residents.

They are very friendly, responsive to requests, and good folks to deal with

The friendliness of the staff members are excellent, and the meals and dining service go way above 12 star, they are out of the world good. Also the activities are off the chart they are fantastic. There is always something going on for our loved one to participate in.
