Benchmark Senior Living

Did not like it. Poor communication with me, the DPOA.

My mother has been a resident here for the past two years. If I stack the cost against all of it, the care is decent, the place itself is also decent. However, be aware the costs they charge to be here go up every year, and not by a little. This January 2025 they raised the combined cost of her place and care by 10% from last year (with no change in level of care). While I understand costs are rising everywhere a 10% increase year over year is, in my opinion, an exorbitant amount. The company has their pre-written reasons to explain away the increases but I don't buy all of it. This feels like the rest of our healthcare system. Pass the cost onto the consumer while they make their high profits. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone doing their research on an assisted living facility. I contacted them with regards to this matter. They referred me to their director. I left her a message, I heard nothing back.

Very happy with Orchard Valley, staff is friendly and attentive, facility is clean and well maintained. Mom is very happy and loves her apartment. I would recommend OV to anyone looking for their loved one.

Toured this facility and was surprised at the cost of care compared to other facilities that I toured. Not only do they charge for the room, but for medications and care. My mother would of had almost [fee removed] worth of care cost, not counting the [fee removed]for the room. Thank God there was a community not that far away that was about [fee removed]dollars cheaper for the same care. A Place For Mom helped me greatly to find something more reasonalbe

No Security (cameras, protcols); staff is not friendly and it seems as you are bothering them if you ask them to do their job; little stimulation is offered to Memory Care clients; we asked in February/March for repairs to be done to remove a sharp piece of metal from shelving and as of August it has not been done; client's mattress has been not cleaned and soaked in urine; when a problem occurs during shift changes the immediate go to is to send the client to the ER and not deal with it; we were told we are secondary care givers and need to make all decisions (even though the Social Worker said that is the Nurse, Doctors and CNAs job); when visiting our family member she has appeared unbathed and has smelled (we pay for her to be bathed daily); no communication with us if something is needed such as under garmets/ toothpaste/ adult diapers; the list goes on and on. I do not have anything to compare service to but I feel like $10k approximately per month should provide a little better service. Nno one has ever asked for my ID at the front desk and of the time they don't even say "Hello" or look up from their cell phone. I feel like anyone can leave with our family member that is in the Memory Care unit.

They could improve on the whole experience

The staff did the bare minimum and I had to hire a private nurse to keep my dad clean and taken care of. The meals were okay. Management was nice and some of the workers but there were a few that could be not so nice. I was not happy with them. They charge a lot for the level of care they provide. The staff did not want to help keep my dads diapers dry or assist with other activities. Toward the end they started to overmedicate him so he spent all day asleep. I had to add a private nurse initially for 2 days and then had to bring up to 6 days. The management would try to help but when the management was not around, they did nothing. I visited every day and I saw several patients go without meals because the staff would not be bothered to get off their phone and help those poor patients who needed assistance eating. I am just generally disappointed at the poor care we have for Alzheimer's patients. It is the saddest thing I have ever seen.

Go elsewhere!! Do not be beguiled by the lovely entrance and public areas. This is largely a skilled nursing facility, staffed by poorly trained aides. Beware.

They trick you on the tour. The food is terrible, watching a concert on TV is considered an activity. No snacks to grab throughout the day like other AL facilities. The everyday anytime menu, you need to be willing to wait a LONG time and deal with staff that is less than thrilled that you want to eat. You can’t control the heat or AC even though you have a thermostat. They can’t retain staff. In the few times I’ve visited, twice a resident has “gone missing”, not to hard to escape when the main door is unlocked and front desk is unattended.

Overall there are some improvements that they could make. For example they do not have many parking spots for the handicap, I think they need to add more spots because he has to park far away and he cannot walk well.

We toured with Evans Park at Newton Corner and I really liked this facility. This was actually our first choice and I wanted to place my loved one here, but they told us no and that they could not handle the type of care my loved one needed.

They didn't deliver what was offered. Communication and coordination was poor. And we had to take our family member out of there for lack of service.

I was not impressed with the care that my loved one was receiving while here. My loved one fell during their time there and the staff didn't call me about this situation of my loved one. Due to medical concerns my loved one had to be moved out of the community into a hospital.

Our family had an in person tour and it was during covid so we think maybe given different circumstance it would of been better but the place just seemed dark. It seemed congested and the hallways were just dark and narrow

We are not very happy with them. Our loved one is in assisted living and has been hurt twice, the medications have been messed up multiple times, and my loved one has been left sitting there for an hour when she told them she had to go to the bathroom. It seems like a good place and the employees are really nice, but they seem short handed especially in the early morning and overnight.

I would not recommend Benchmark Senior Living at Haverhill to other families who are looking.

The facility was nice but not impressed with anything else. We had to have my loved one quarentine if we went for 14 days.

The corporate company Benchmark cares little for the needs of the Arbors. The staff is unable to make improvements due to corporate lack of caring and funding. Especially during the Pandemic it had been heart breaking not to have reliable or existence of WiFi and Television for residents. It had become a full time to be an advocate for change. The administrator at the Arbors and many of his leadership team really care and want improvements but are hamstrung from Benchmark corporate. Just shameful corporate greed and lack of compassion from Benchmark.

We had a love one here for a few years we adored the last manger he was very hands on and knew everyone the activity were amazing and she adored them But the staff did not want to care for pepole who needed a lot ofAssistance She was know to be a fall risk she had fallen and been to the hospital 5 times in the last mouth Many times the hospital didn’t even know why she was there We saw staff often on cell phones The last fall did her in so much she could not Return But we wonder did that fall need to happen since she was a know fall risk The first thing The new manager Did was move her self to the back of the Building so she did not have to deal with the Residence and hire mult Levels of management My understanding is she’s left and I hope things got better but Please my love on this now there ate a few others from evens park When we told the staff how much we paid they seem surprised as they certainly were not paid any more to deal with our love for one at the higher level And resented her so much that another resident told us that they weren’t very nice to her

firstly felt more like a home feeling then some of the other places toured.nice refreshments served,loved the blueberry bread!.does not present well,as it seems a little dingy,urine smell in hallway near apartment shown,salesperson said nothing to worry about??. we felt as though she was a little on the aggressive side,a lot of need to make a decision quickly etc.I think she under estimated us ,as we have toured others.close to my sister is why we looked,but along with the smells,and the pressure to sign,we are going to continue to look at other options
