The people were incredibly friendly. My loved one had a negative experience with the rehab facility connected, so it was just not going to be the right fit. The location of the facility is lovely but the room sizes are on the smaller side.

My mom lives there. Everything is kept spotlessly clean and she is well-cared for. I feel she is safe. She likes the food (I think it smells good when I am there and it is cooking) and the staff is friendly and responsive to my questions and concerns. True, the only activity they offer is Bingo but my mom also goes to an adult day care several times a week. The grounds are nicely maintained and gated for safety. You are getting a good value for the cost. If you want a lot of activities and other fancy amenities, you would have to pay a lot more. I did my research and feel this is the best place in her price range.

I toured this community with my mother, and it is quite a big, beautiful place. The people were great during our visit. There are lots of amenities here for the residents as well. However, my mother needs memory care, and she isn’t able to take advantage of all of the activities and amenities. I really wanted something smaller and more like home for my mother where she can easily get involved and make friends.

We had a really rocky start for my father-in-law. He had only been there one week and he fell from the bed and broke his hip. They were going to put an alarm on his bed but for some reason, it did not happen right away. There is a problem when the residents push the alarm to go to the restroom it can take up to 25 to 30 minutes for them to respond. They have said they are understaffed. The staff on hand are very friendly. And the nurse always stops what she is doing and answers all of my questions and concerns. They have a lot of activities that my mother-in-law participates in, but not too many for father-in-law now that he is in a wheelchair. On the plus side, my in-laws get to stay together in the same room. Financially it is a good fit. The director was very accommodating. The maintenance is really great, recently their air conditioner broke down and they came to fix it immediately.

We are happy with the care so far. My aunt is in a clean community that is also very nice. They staff are accommodating and they keep her insulin level under control. At times my cousin has noticed that they might be short staffed. He has felt uncomfortable leaving other residents unsupervised or unassisted. They seem to be doing other things.

My aunt came to BYL as the result of a hospital admission leading to transfer to BYL skilled nursing and then placement in memory care there. Overall the process was much easier and better than I expected. It took a while for the staff to realize her Dementia as she could hold her own for short periods of time. Being in SNF for 3 weeks helped sort things out. She is now where she needs to be and as happy as possible. I was bit dissatisfied with the lack of medical information transferred from the SNF section to memory care. Also getting doctor's records was a challenge. Overall they are doing a good job. I was able to add Hospice to help fill in and am very pleased with their services. As I live out of town communication has not been optimal. Yet the staff seem interested and engaged, making this an overall good experience.

I have mixed emotions about Rancho Mirage. I do like it and would recommend it,, i am not a fan of certain colors they used in certain places. People or painters need to FEEL the room before they just paint with any color . I would like to see it painted different colors.

My Mother has lived at Emeritus for five years. She appreciates and enjoys the staff members.Though they are overworked and underpaid. She's very reclusive and will not dine in the dinning room. She suffers from advanced neuropathy and has trouble feeding herself. She was an excellent cook, a successful career woman who traveled extensively, and for work and pleasure. Today you would call her a "foodie". The food at this facility is terrible. It pains me to see her try to eat it. She often gives up and drinks a "Glucerna" just for the nutritional value. It pains me to see her try to eat that horrible food. When they were bought out by Brookdale, there were a few days when the food was good. Apparently, Brookdale had sent a cook down to try to teach the staff how to cook. Mother marveled at the good food and was so delighted. That last only about three days. Now the food it back to bad. It's a shame since the facility is so nice in every other way. If you folks or loved one doesn't care about food quality I would recommended this facility.

We're not entirely thrilled with Emeritus at Carmel Valley. There wasn't enough staff is the dining room. What happened, I think, is a bunch of people moved in and they didn't have the staff to cover it. It's gotten better in the last week or so but once two people from the dining room called in sick and my parents had to wait and hour and a half to get there food. Another time, I happened to be visiting and it took a caretaker over 30 minutes to come when they were called and then she said she was washing clothes. I asked her, isn't responding to a call more important? It just seems to me that they're kind of short staffed. It might be a problem that can be alleviated. My parents have a two bedroom apartment and it's very stressful because my dad has Alzheimer's so my mom is anxious that he's going to get up and fall so we're considering moving him but I have to say they're very nice over there.

I placed my loved one here in Memory Care (MC) in 2023 when the facility was owned by Generations. Since the announcement of the sale to Bayshire last year, the place has gone down hill. The facility is in a major need of a face lift with filthy carpet in the common areas and a leaky roof in the MC dining room. The food has also gone down hill with poor selections at many meals for MC patients. The bright spot is the tenured MC Care Staff and Med Techs who really care about the residents and treat them as if they were their own family. Unfortunately, they appear to be overworked, underpaid, and frequently short staffed, especially on the weekends. New management appears to be trying to remedy the situation, but progress has and continues to be really slow. At one point, I was recommending the facility to many people in the various support groups I attend. However, when people ask me today, I tell them to look elsewhere and have considered moving my loved one myself.

Care staff, med techs and housekeeping staff are great! Upper management, not so much. They won't answer email, phones or texts without asking or sending 2nd requests. Communication is good when loved one has an issue. Move in was a joke, didn't complete paperwork until 2 weeks after already moved in. Meals are plentiful, sometimes served cold, salads could be fresher and meal times are too early with only one hour for each meal but they do have an all day menu of a few items. They should email family members about resident meetings, special events, monthly/daily activity lists. My brother and I visit our loved one twice a week and even then we miss some upcoming events. They need to post things throughout the community instead of just at front desk. We toured 10 communities before Mom chose this one, it was less expensive than others with a couple courtyards (they need to keep better maintained, dirty furniture and fountains not working.) The apartments are small, but clean and nice. Building needs a little upgrade on the outside and the windows could be cleaned a couple times a year. Carpet inside (halls, dining, etc) needs deep cleaning or replaced. The front entrance outside is very large with seating, which our Mom loves.

The staff were nice but the facility itself looked run down. The rooms were extremely small, you could only fit one single bed in there. It was also more expensive than some other places we looked into.

If I had a little bit more money I think I would move my loved one out. They are extremely understaffed. The administrative staff are very difficult to get a hold of, if they do get back to us the promises that are made are not withheld. I think that if your loved one is more mobile, it may be a better facility for them.

Like the Placentia place better because of the rooms. The resident rooms all have a sliding glass door and balcony. Having a room with lots of windows, and natural lighting is important for my mom's eye site. She also loves to sit on the porch. Everything else was comparable so Placentia won out over this one.
