The community didn’t smell all that great.

When I toured this community it was an Emeritus. I just was not impressed that it was two different floors and they had an elevator but my loved one needed extra assistance. With dementia operating an elevator… you’re lucky if you can operate a door. The community didn’t smell all that great. just wasn’t a nice community. The one side of the building had a view of office buildings. It was kind of like a used car lot with them trying to bargain

The staff was outsourced on weekends and wore hair extensions and extremely long nails ,they were uneducated and rude. They stole a giftcard I received out of the envelope so when I picked up the mail it was empty. The food was not that good and I spoke with others that were unhappy there. I was also informed of a video incident that took place there that was quite apalling. I would never recommend that place to anyone at best I give it a 2 at best. The staff was outsourced on weekends and wore hair extensions and extremely long nails ,they were uneducated and rude.

There was a dangerously low lever of staff in memory care. My mother's. Inconvenience care was horrible. They admin staff dragged their feet on providing needed paperwork to move into new facility. We left after 2 months. I believe they may have gotten new management since we have left.

Elder care needs improvement!

I would not recommend as I have moved my Dad to another facility. They could improve on watching their residents, as my father was found almost a mile away from the center soaking wet in a ditch gone for 3 hours when they knew I was coming, better oversight, making sure the residents are clean and not walking around in soiled clothing and pants.

It appears to be a nice area, definitely needs improvement.

The meals good from what I see, but I don't know about the activities I do not seem them. Charging for memory care, but giving assisted living care. They promised me that they would do daily hygiene care morning and evening and help with changing clothes for bedtime. This usually never happens. Our loved one sleeps in their clothing from what they wore for the day. It's just sad. I had high hopes for better care for them, but it didn't happen.

It's True: You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover!

When we toured and researched Aviva, everything seemed wonderful. The Marketing/Sales Director who has since left the Property did a great job telling us about what a community should be. Unfortunately, Aviva did not live up to the presentation. With only one exception, nothing was as it seemed. That one exception, thank goodness, is the quality of healthcare. As for the other aspects...? Apartment size is small and cramped. Operationally, this community is very challenged. One of the two elevators broke down, and it took a very long time to get it fixed. Also slow to come out was the communication to the residents about it being broken. When a resident is pained walking Ang going up and down stairs, an elevator should be a priority. The food service is lacking significantly, it's not that tasty, the portions are incredibly small, and everything in the menu ends up not being available in short order. The waitstaff has issues too, with many times only one person around to serve all of the tables. My MIL says that the activities that are planned aren't that inspiring. She doesn't like playing bingo, and the concerts that are supposed to take place on site are more like practices. Also, most people don't go to the planned activities on site. Furthermore, while she met several lovely people (residents), she found that for the most part, people just walked around like zombies not really engaging. She found it very depressing. Several community managers left the employ of the community in the short 6 months that we were trying it out. Thank goodness we had that trial period so we didn't have to move my MIL there permanently. She was beside herself living there for even more than 3 months; very unhappy. I wish it had been better; we were so hopeful. I hope that management gets their act together for the friends that are still living there.

Not what we needed

Mom is 95 years of age and had broken the femur of her right leg in 2 places and was non-weight bearing on that leg for 8 weeks following surgery. There is a beautiful lounge area the residents could enjoy. The dining room was very impressive with windows all around, looking out onto a landscaped area and a fountain on a pond. The director was pleasant enough. I asked if she thought it, being assisted living, would be a good fit for my mother who would need a lot of assistance as she couldn’t stand by herself. She assured me they had round the clock nursing care. Mom developed pressure wounds from no one checking her skin under the brace. She was hospitalized 2 times with sepsis. It is a beautiful, great community for those who need minimal assistance. The nursing care was not adequate for someone in mom’s condition nor were the caregivers trained to assist mom in transferring nor in helping her shower. Therefore she did not get a shower nor bed bath the 30 days she was there.

Review for AVIVA Maybelle Carter

I picked this community because I had other family living there.Their meals are not up to par considering we are paying almost 5,000 a month. Sandwiches for supper 2 times a week and no choices...not fair if you don't like fish you are out of luck. They don't clean his apartment twice a week as stated. And they do not switch contaminated gloves unless I am there watching them several times a week during food service.

I toured with AVIVA Maybelle Carter and it was a huge disappointment. Granted, they said that they were about to do an expensive renovation, but I found the place to be very depressing and offered very little natural light.

Make sure what they tell you is true. We were told our loved one would have a furnished room - it was not furnished. We were told they would help us find a Medicaid bed when the time came, and they are not helping with that. They raised his rent $1000 within the first month, with no warning or explanation. They wait until his medicine is gone before they call us to refill it. Those are my main complaints. I don't know who their marketing person is, but I called to get information from them for the Medicaid transfer, and they told me that the nursing home we're moving him to does not take Medicaid, when in fact it does. So I'm not sure why they're telling me that this other facility doesn't take Medicaid when that facility has let me know themselves that they do take Medicaid.

Would Not Recommend It

Unless you're able to advocate on a daily basis, I wouldn't leave a loved one there without checking in on them. I constantly have to follow up with the staff. Please use this place as a last resort. I would give the food a zero if I could. My loved one got a grilled cheese sandwich with no cheese one night. I think they keep their prices down to get people in there, but the service is very poor.

Our experience with Glendale

I would want others to know that you need to be an advocate for your loved one who is in this facility. They struggled with getting my mother the correct medications and we had to make sure she was receiving them. We had to keep on top of things most of them time, so just make sire you are paying attention. At this time, I would not recommend.

Upsetting Experience

This is a great community for the most part. I toured it with my mother. Our tour went well, but I soon found out that my mother went back with a friend. She had written a check for them, but with myself being the power of attorney for her. They should had never taken a check from a person with dementia. It was upsetting because they would not refund the money.

One person tainted the overall rating of this community!

Our loved one enjoyed their stay at Maybelle Carter Senior Adult Care. Our loved one enjoyed the variety of activities offered like bingo, going out for ice cream, church service, and other social events. Our loved one already had friends at Maybelle Carter. They offer a nice variety of options at meals and the food is good. Most of the staff are wonderful, and our loved one would have liked to stay there long term. Our loved one decided not to stay because of the lack of respect of privacy and on several occasions miscommunication from [Removed], a member of the staff.

Poor value

With the dramatic turnover in executive staff and directors of Memory Care from Jul, 2013 through April , 2014, the quality of care for Alzheimer's residents suffered. Rarely were there any activities to engage them. In my mother's case, and by their own admission, the staff permitted my mother to lie in bed up to 20 hrs a day. Often the staff would sit around and chat with one another during mealtimes instead of helping to feed those who could not do so for themselves. I was appalled. In another instance, I helped with a party for the residents, and the staff kitchen in Memory Care was so dirty, I had to clean the counters and some flatware first. I moved my mother to another facility.

Would NOT recommend The Landing

We did not have a good experience with this community at all. It really was a horrific situation, they were doing absolutely nothing with my loved one. She'd get up for a meal, and then just walk back to her room and get into bed with her clothes on and sleep for 20 hours. They didn't have any sort of activities for their memory care patients at all. The aides and LPNs were doing their best, but they were so understaffed and had so much employee turnover. They transitioned to new ownership during our stay, which caused us all sorts of difficulties with billing, we received incorrect bills for months in a row. I really would not recommend this place at all.
