Our family experience, overall good community with some improvements to communication and meals.

Initially we had very good contact but now difficult to contact anyone to get issues resolved. When it comes to the meals and dining there is not much of a selection or a variety to choose from. There is also not enough activities for the residents.

A new directive is bringing good changes

The response time and most of the aides are very patience. Also food and activities are good. They have transportation for no extra cost. Since my mom is in a wheelchair, that's very important to me. The security is also worth mentioning as good at night. Most of the aides are very good, but at 95, an aide can't rush or be rough with my mom. One definitely is. I bought Mom six new gowns and 4 have disappeared and no one can locate them. I think the food is good for an industrial kitchen. She enjoys most of it. A couple of aides are very good about bringing her hot chocolate everyday. There are a lot of activities, but Mom never leaves her room. She's pretty much wheelchair bound now. Unfortunately, most of the time, the response time is too long. There have been times she has waited more than three hours to respond. She has resorted to calling the desk at times. I'm still looking for a house and can't bring her to my daughter's because there are 13 steps to get in and that's impossible now. This is our first experience like this. I'm not sure if I'm being too critical or just a concerned daughter. Aviva is reported to be the best facility around, so for now, I'll keep her there. The executive director is new and I'm sure she'll get a handle on things. She's very competent and friendly.

Review for Aviva Hills

The nurses and medical group are great. They have great special activities for the residents. The facility is very clean and pretty. The administration staff is very disorganized and there seems to be a lot of turnover. They also don't return calls. The helpers at meals are not very engaged and seem unhappy in their positions. I feel Aviva has some very positive qualities but there is much room for improvement in the areas I listed. Not sure I would recommend them at the current state.

Disappointed

The one thing we're not happy about is that they charge $5 to get a room tray delivered to someone's room. My uncle has dementia and he doesn't realize he is being charged even though I keep telling him. He had an extra $250 charge on his bill last month. I keep trying to tell him to go down but he forgets. When it was the Landing we were not charged for this. Plus the prices have gone up twice since they took over. Should not have redecorated also since it had just been done. Older people generally like very traditional surroundings not modern. Waste of money.

Aviva Maybelle Carter review

Well my mother is still there . They have done some remodeling which helped to improve things. They have consistent activities so that's nice too. The biggest complaint from my moma is the food!! Repetitive meals, greasy food, and inexperience cooks (constant position turnover in the kitchen). I actually plan on reaching out to them to ask what going on with the meals. They are going up about [fee removed] ion the rent at the first of the year so we'll be looking for somewhere else soon!

Deficiencies in memory care unit, with strong staff needing more support

Though the assisted living seemed fine, it was not the best place for memory care and Alzheimer's. There was not enough staff, lack of activities, and their care for incontinence was not good. There were difficulties getting information from the director and the promised medical staff on site every week almost never occurred. Communication was lacking, but in regards to my concerns my loved ones care team were responsive. In the end it was difficult to get full information for her transfer, but we did get it. It could have been better, but we weren't there long-term. The lack of staff was the biggest problem. Her care team were wonderful, sweet, and caring. I never worried about her safety in that way, but I don't think it's as specialized towards Alzheimer's and it needs a greater level of care. I cant speak highly enough about the people and the techs in her unit. They were absolutely wonderful people who did so much, but I don't think the system was setup as well as it could have been. I could see myself wanting to be there for assisted living, but memory care was the problem. It's also important to mention that at the time, she was extremely difficult. She had a lot of aggression problems and it may have been a lot more than what they could deal with, especially without a doctor coming in. For other people it may be a good fit, but for us it was difficult with her advanced Alzheimer's.

Our families experience

The care services at times were a little bit of a hit and miss - they would have to hire outside sources to help out on occasion. There was no real adequate staffing on the weekends. The meals and dining services needs huge improvement. Only good meal was breakfast and the quality of the meals for lunch and dinner were just bad. Never had the chance to participate in the activities but they seemed quite good.

Needs improvement, receptive to feedback

They switched ownership earlier this month so it is hard to tell what is going on. My loved one does not like the food and I do not feel he is receiving the best quality of care. There has been some medication issues and also they are short staffed at the moment and still trying to hire. Overall I feel like they need some improvement.

I was not overly impressed with my tour. It felt dark and gloomy and had more of an institutional feeling to it. The rooms were fine it was just the hallways that felt cold.

A nice place but be prepared to take care of your loved one yourself

The people are pretty nice. I do not feel like they have enough staff but I understand that as of right now. However, I do not feel like you get what you pay for with memory care. I do not feel like they are attentive to their needs and that could be due to limited help but they need more help with cleaning rooms and showering.

Overall good care. Communication needs improvement.

I think they're very caring people. But they are not organized and do not communicate well with the families. I keep going up the chain of command trying to get answers, but I get a different answer from each different person I talk to. I understand they're short-staffed right now, but it's affecting the care our loved one is receiving. It would have been helpful if they could have given us a binder or packet detailing their procedures and what they need from us. That would have made the move-in and transition period much smoother. But I don't worry about my loved one day to day. I feel like overall she's being well taken care of.

Looks nice from the outside, but not so much once you get there.

It's a beautiful community, but it wasn't the right place for our loved one. They were not very hands-on - in fact they were very hands-off and not very proactive. And she needed just a little more help than they were available to give her, especially for the price that we paid.

Our experience with River Bend

We chose River Bend Assisted Living because of the location of the facility as well as the value for the money. The room sizes are very good and we are happy with that. They could use improvement on the variety and the quality of the meals, it has been an on going issue that hasn't been resolved.

my experience

I think they judge people before talking to the residence, she felt they did not try to get to know her, and when we pulled her out of this facility not one staff person said goodbye to her. They did have a bus and they got to do fun activities that she loved. The room had a lovely view, and it was very clean.

Physical facilities were fine and seemed to be in good shape. Management was spotty, many staff changes of upper-level including head nurse. Many of the staff were very nice and took good care of my brother, but a number of them were disinterested and not helpful when asked questions. Some of the better staff quin in frustration with management.

Short Changed

I would not recommend this community. I feel like there are a lot of things that come into play. I believe they are running on a tight budget and they aren't able to provide the services that other locations are running. A lot falls through the cracks there. There were no programming since I put my parents there. I know that other communities were still running programming and this community decided to place all the residents on lock down. I know that this is a difficult time and it is a hard decision to make. I know that prior to COVID-19 they were starting to roll things due to budgets. It wasn't what was sold to us. I think the staff's hearts are in the right place. They are trying to do the right thing. The food was horrible, and it was hospital quality for taste. This was a huge bummer.
