Avamere

Our family had an in person tour with Aspen Ridge Memory Care and overall we did think based on what we saw - it was a very nice tour experience but it was just not going to fit all of our loved ones needs.

My loved one is a resident here and things have gone well so far. I really like the facility. The staff takes great care of the residents and are very much on top of things. They're constantly on the go and are really attentive to the residents. They read to my loved one every evening and have a good variety of activities. Administration is very on top of things here, as well. It's a good atmosphere here and the food is good!

Avamere at Cheyenne is better than most places I've visited in the last two years. They are building a new wing that should be opening soon. The only problems we've had are the debit mix-ups that we have finally solved. Just keep an eye on the billing.

We picked this community because it was recommended, location, and the people. I like what they are doing with the activities. They could improve on relaying contact information. I would recommend to other families.

Everybody is friendly. My loved one needs minimal help, but what they do help with, they do very well. And they have a variety of activities, so there should be something for everybody there. I would recommend them to other families.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this facility for dad. My only suggestion for improvement would be the food. It's often served cold. I'm not sure if it's because they take orders and get behind, but I'd like to see that get better. Housekeeping is once a week, his room is always clean and bed linens are changed weekly. Trash is taken out daily. The staff has been very kind and helpful. Communication with the family is good. I would recommend them to friends and family.

[name removed], who led our tour, was great. She took the time above and beyond to explain not only about Avamere, but also about other places and what we should look for when touring. She was open to our questions even after the tour, whatever we needed, whether we went with Avamere or not. She still keeps in touch with me, which is great. Ultimate for my family member's needs, it was not a fit. They had a smoking section that was off-putting to him. And they also had a smaller elevator, which made him a bit claustrophobic.

They are very willing to work with you and your loved one. They are helpful, transparent, and willing to work with you. The staff communication with the family is great. The care they are able to provide includes medication management, bathing, hygiene, and dressing assistance for my loved one. The memory care unit has a smaller ratio of residents right now. They have about 15 residents. The community recently hired an activities director who is doing more activities that are individual or set up with two residents in memory care.

my experience at Avamere has been okay so far. there are a few things that I think could use some improvement, starting with the food. the food is not always exactly as its represented. for example: the pork chop has no bone at all, it doesn't even look like a pork chop. it does taste okay, but it just doesn't look like what it is. the food does have variety in every meal and you can have a few different type of sandwiches if you don't like what they're serving. you have the choice of soup as well, but it is the same kind everyday. they could also use a little more help in the tv department. the channels are fine, its just having someone there during the weekend to help with operating the tv. rules and management have changed, there were three diff changes before I moved in. they went from having unlimited tv to limited tv and an additional charge for that. the same thing happened with the landline, it has increased in price. they do offer activities, like bingo, puzzles, and art class. they also have transportation for doctor appointments, and grocery stores; but there are no activity outings just yet. they are a fairly new company and I understand that new companies don't have everything that old companies have. I currently have a 1 bedroom apartment - but I had to go into a studio first before I could move into the 1 bedroom. there's no washer and dryer in my unit, but housekeeping comes by once a week. they do allow pets, but there is an upcharge, and that upcharge is a lot more than most places. they have a lot of staff and a lot of caregivers, and they're all very nice. they're also always there. they have 2 RNs - but if you want extra care you do have to pay a little more. overall I would recommend Avamere at South Hill to others and I'd give them a 4/5.

When my mom first move in, she had to quarantine for 10 days due to Covid, and then pretty quickly after that they had to shut down due to an outbreak. So things were a little rough at first. But the people there are great. All the staff members have been super responsive and available and are very friendly. They were working with reduced staff for a while with people out sick, but they seem to be back in full swing now. I thought that they handled those Covid challenges the best they could, and they always have a great attitude. My mom loves the cleaning guy. He leaves her place spotless, which she appreciates. And the staff in general have gone above and beyond for her in some circumstances, especially when we weren't allowed to go in and help. I definitely feel like we found the right place for her. She's really happy. It's just that Covid has been really hard.

When we first started to look ahead we needed to know what options were in our community. They were a great source to not only provide faculties but were also very helpful in answering questions that we had as well as providing information we had never even considered. I would recommend this service to anyone looking for long term living and care options.

Love the people and atmosphere residents make all new feel at home all like one big family . Staff are nice and work hard, care for there residents and there needs.

At first I was very happy with them. As time went on, I was unhappy. They will not communicate. It doesn't matter how many times you call them and leave a message, they will not call you back. And that's not just one person. That's everybody there. For the most part they did a good job with his care, although at times I felt he wasn't getting what he needed. But it wasn't too bad. I didn't think they had enough activities. I was thoroughly shocked by the cost, but it was the same price at other places all over town.

We did not tour this facility as it did not meet our stay requirements for respite care. It is the highest priced facility that met our location needs. Otherwise the information provided was very satisfactory. Therefore, we would consider this facility as second line.

The community is very clean and neat and the staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is very nice and They do a good job taking care of our loved ones. I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

Our loved one was only there for about two weeks, but they were always willing and available to answer any and all of our questions. We would recommend this community to others during non covid times.

It seems like it was a good place. It just wasn't a good fit for my loved one. She was a fall risk, and one of the nurses called me and said it wasn't safe for my loved one to stay there anymore. The outside of the building was really nice, but I wasn't able to go inside to visit. My loved one told me she loved the people there, and that the food was okay. She just loved everybody there. When we moved her things out, all the people we saw said "Oh, I remember her! We loved her. She got along great here!" It was a perfectly good place for her until it wasn't anymore. The nurses really did care. When she fell, they took her to the emergency room. The hospital didn't immediately admit her and didn't want to put her in a rehab center. So they sent her back to Gilman Park. That's when the nurse said she wasn't safe there, that she needed more care and needed more of an eye on her. I appreciated that the nurses were honest with me about her care. Every time I emailed the nurse, she emailed me right back with updates. One thing I wish I had known before I signed the contract with them was that they require you to use their drug supply company, Consonus. Before moving in, we were getting her meds for free or very low cost per month, and all of a sudden we had a considerable monthly cost for all her prescriptions, as well as any non-prescription things she might or might not need, like laxatives and cold medicines. If there was an alternative, I didn't see it when we signed up.
