Avalon House on Gerard Court

My husband is doing well since his move to this community. It is a lovely community with kind people. They do a great job with keeping everything well-kept. They are taking very good care of him, and his needs. It has been a lovely experience, and we are pleased.

Very happy with Avalon House. A nce alternative to assisted living. I really liked the home environment and that they specialize in memory care.

We had delivered a piece of equipment to the facility and I realized it was not acceptable to have it there. I do wish I would have known this prior to moving the patient in. Other that that everything at Avalon House On Oakview Drive has been pretty good.

We don't have much experience with these sorts of places, but so far we have been very impressed with Avalon House. It is a nice looking place, the people are friendly, and they seem to be taking good care of my loved one.

I think the move-in process could be a little bit more streamlined, as the process was a little bit unorganized. It would have been helpful if they had an organized process to get us acclimated and let us know what we were facing and what to expect. The owner there is really great though, and keeps us informed and is quick to respond any time we have any questions. Overall it has been a very positive experience. So far so good.

I think they are doing well. It's immaculate, even though the home itself is older, but they keep it very clean. The food is good. The staff is really good, they are pretty attentive. It's pretty amazing how far they go to keep the residents occupied. I think they are a pretty good value. The only concern I have had was with another resident, and they handled that very well, providing one on one care, and redirecting in a respectful, upbeat way. As it turns out there was no need for concern.

Great location, very nice accommodations, nice staff, good price - I could stop looking right here!

This is a place similar where mom is now. Would liken this set up to Angel Gardens.

Room available was nice

When considering a group home, it really depends on what you’re looking for. My mother would not have done well in a group home. Here there were four people sharing a bathroom. But it was a newer building. It had a beautiful view, and a new kitchen. It seemed like a beautiful house. They said they could provide a lot of care there. But it was concerning to me that two people living there full time would really be able to provide all the care for 6-7 seniors living in one house.

Met with Georgia. Very informative. Nice facility. Seems it would be cheaper than Sunrise....but, it is soooo far away.

I would recommend this facility if the family is going to be involved and frequent the home. It is clean. Staff: some are great- professional, empathetic and kind. Others are cold, unprofessional and run the house as if the residents are inmates. The 2 I am specifically speaking of are protected by management and my negative feedback was dismissed. The aide even saying my loved one was a liar. The move in was easy. Calls to family could be better. I have asked that they reach out to us any time there are issues or conflict with our loved one, if medication is running low. I have not received calls. As for the food: we are not allowed in the house during meals, our loved one complains about the variety and quality of food. Overly processed.

The cleanliness of the community is excellent, but they could work a little bit more on improving their care services.

Beautiful home in a woodland area of McLean. Sunroom is glassed in and residents enjoy a panoramic view of stately trees, sky, birds, squirrels. Staff was welcoming; a full tour of the home was cheerfully conducted. House is well taken care of, very clean, safe and secure; residents have their own bedroom, share bathrooms. Felt like a home.

The staff are very nice. It's clean but there are only 2 bathrooms/toilet for 8 residents.

We had used another Avalon House community in the past that we were very pleased with, and selected Avalon House on Gerard Court for another loved hoping the quality of care would be similar. Unfortunately they didn't do quite as good a job at this location, the staff didn't seem quite as involved with the residents. Also, the care at this community seemed geared towards Alzheimer's residents, so the care was not as good a match. All that being said, the care here was acceptable, not bad by any means, just not up to the high standards set by the other Avalon House facility we used.

$150/day or $165 if with bathroom attached, all inclusive All private rooms. Residential setting...8 or so residents. Rooms are variable in size with no price differential. McLean one toured---definite wear and tear, somewhat dark. Staff seemed friendly. Alarms on door, but staff admitted some residents learn codes and 'escape' anyway. Baths given daily, incontinence support many times a day. Nutritionist used if necessary. Residents weighed regularly to make sure weight is properly maintained/achieved. Staffed 24/7 with night time staff too. 9 homes in McLean/Falls Church area..no current vacancies. No funny odors noted. Back yard access only with supervision. Staff noted taking some residents for walks in neighborhood. Opportunity for personalized care.

Does not accept medicaid or veteran's benefits.

My overall experience was about a two. The cleanliness it was very clean I'd give that probably a four or five. The friendliness the administrative staff is very friendly I would give them a five. The nursing Care staff I would give about a two. For the meals probably at 3:00 my dad mostly didn't want to eat their cooking. There were absolutely no activities whatsoever so that would be a zero. The value for the money for me was not good at all I would give it like maybe a two
