Atria is a great location however the apartments are dated and not what we are looking for

Took my mom to Atria Collwood for a one month respite stay. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, we did not get info about facility safety procedures due to Friday check in. Facility has safety policy of checking in on resident in their rooms at night. We did not get this info. Unfortunately, my mother was startled and frightened when exiting her bathroom to find a male caregiver in her room. That was it for her and she checked out after only two days. This was a disappointing misunderstanding. My advice is to try and check in when all key staff are working and ask lots of questions. The food was OK, usually required reheating. There were also ants in her bathroom.

Things are going okay for my cousin over here at Atria Riverdale, but the one thing my cousin dislikes here is the food. All the food made here is Kosher and they do not inform you of this before you move in, I really think that is very important information that you and your loved one should be told about because my cousin is not kosher. The community looks really nice and the staff is very kind and helpful. Other places were really expensive but this place was a little more reasonable with their price even thought I still have my concern regarding what they are charging her. I give the community 3 stars and the food here I would give 1 star.

The only thing that I have a small problem with is that they are supposed to be sending correspondence to either me or the insurance company, but they are cutting it a little close now and I have not gotten any reimbursement from the insurance company because they need that correspondence. Other than that it is good and my loved one is happy there.

This rating is for the dementia unit, which I only toured. I do not have a family member here. Many of the people who have family members that we spoke with, like the staff. But we found out at the end of the tour from the memory care director that the memory care unit did not have the necessary parameters we need. I would suggest you verify your needs before going on a tour. They said they do not have any means to puree food or thickened juice. It also smelled a little funny in the dementia unit when we were there.

My father is a difficult person, and they have been very understanding for the most part, though there were a couple of exceptions. The aid that worked with him on a daily basis was great, but there were some others (once it went up the chain) that were not as good. I would say that if your parent is easy to live with then this place is probably going to be great for them.

So here is the overall truth of this facility. The staff try very hard to be friendly and delightful. The Management walk a fine line between what is right and what is corporate. There is a lot of back scenes corporate nonsense and monetary profit consideration in every decision made here. The activities staff has been compromised and understaffed for 3 years. Many activities are cancelled and many on the schedule are there for marketing purposes only. The med tech staff work very hard, but do not assume on any given day that your family member [removed]. You must be an advocate on a daily basis. Pill mistakes, timing issues, assisted living calls may or may not be done correctly or on a timely basis. The turn in around in staff here is like a revolving door. The Executive directors take 4-5 months to find, then to train, then 5 months later they move to another property. The corporate structure cut staffing to less then 30 hours per week so they could avoid giving their employees medical insurance. The consequence is that there are times when it can take 45 minutes to get served, or the same activities person is forced to teach a class, start the movie and make welcome packages, leaving everyone waiting and wondering. The scary thing is that this is one of the best facilities in the desert. Overall for an independent person it can start out as a 4-5 star experience. But as people decline, they can sit all weekend in their units with barely an activity to be found. When the movie projector broke, there were no films shown for 6 weeks. Corporate would not rent a large monitor and dvd player. As you live here year after year the rent can rise by 5-7 percent, as can the care services. So plan carefully. And just look around there are many empty units here. This was not the case 3 years ago. The age and condition of the new comers is 5-8 years older then a few years back. It is an effort to fill units, but the minute you need more care then this facility is licensed to provide you can be thrown out. YES thrown out. So do your homework, make sure that you know what is really going on and anticipate the future as you may find that this facility cannot keep you. At first glance is a 4.5 star facility. After you have been around for a few months you might drop your rating. When you experience the corporate choices weighing down on some of the nicest staff in the world, your rating might drop again, and when you run into problems, you will realize that corporate will protect themselves and turn the tables on you and your loved one.

So far so good. They don't switch to medicaid, we will eventually have to move. They are clean and the staff is friendly. They have addressed any concerns that have come up. She enjoys the food here. So far we are pretty happy with them, I would give them a conservative 3.

Things are going okay, but we aren't 100 percent. We have found that they seem to be okay, but the activities seem to be really lacking in terms of enthusiasm and excitement, they don't seem to be doing much in terms of keeping them physically active. They don't seem to follow scheduled timing, and there is a level of attention to detail, that is lacking. The weekend in particular is severely understaffed. I don't think they are used to having a family so involved. I think they are well intended and they seem like they are trying to make changes, and work with us. The food is good and it's very clean. I do like that they take them to interact with the independent living side, if they can.

Atria El Camino Gardens is currently under construction. When my father-in-law passed away we were looking for places close to us for my mother-in-law. When we saw the facility we saw it was being remodeled but we were able to look past that. Well, we thought it would be done a lot sooner. The hallway that my mother-in-law is in is complete so that is nice. The residents are definitely complaining about it and it is unsettling for them. Another complaint I have is they never seem to get our bill right. We got a special deal and they keep sending the wrong amount. Michelle is very lovely there. We had a lot of gripes in the beginning and she has really been on top of things.

The grounds are great and the independent living side is also very good. The dementia care leaves something to be desired. There is little attention to detail and a lack of enthusiasm which translates to a fairly boring environment for those residents that are higher functioning. I would recommend that anyone with a family member in dementia care become involved and make frequent visits to monitor if all needs are being met.

In terms of the facility itself and the staff I think Atria Collwood is a very nice place. The people here are all very nice, and they do their best to look after the people who live her. Every single person really is as nice as can be. However, they have a lot of communication issues between staff members, coordinating with doctors, etc. I still find myself having to be very involved in the care process just to make sure care instructions get communicated and carried out, and for the amount of money I am paying that isn't something I think I should need to do. And it isn't just the staff here, it is a problem throughout the industry, but still something they really need to improve.

It is too soon for me to review, as my father still has many issues. Care is very good, but the food leaves a lot to be desired and the portions are quite small.

This facility doesnt appear to offer an Independent Living option. It is our hope that our parents start our that way, knowing their needs will change over time.

Overall, it's a nice place. The wellness staff, in particular , is very thorough, empathetic, and professional. The general staff is accommodating as well. The facility is clean, complete with a park/nature preserve in the backyard which makes it very pleasant during the warmer months. Certain members of senior management, however, can at times seem resentful of any questions, input, or recommendations made by family members - which is disconcerting and off-putting. In an environment such as this, inquiries should always be welcomed. They should realize that responses and give and take would only enhance their performance and capabilities

The staff was great. They are friendly and welcoming. They have a great variety of activities. They go out to eat. On holidays they have a big dinner. There is live music once a week. The facility is clean and has a nice atmosphere. Overall, It was a pretty good experience. The Atria Copeland is a nice community with a friendly staff. The residents are very friendly as well. I would recommend the Atria Copeland.
