Long wait

Everything is great, except…… Whenever you call to have someone come to your room for help it’s at least a 2 hour wait. The aide told us there is only 1 worker for 20 rooms! Before we signed the lease we were told 30 min max. Unacceptable

Do not recommend.

The cost of the facility is over the top for most people. It certainly was for me. So the value was terrible, considering everything. Some of the staff is friendly but most of the staff is not, especially the administration. It becomes obvious very quickly that it's all about money. Loss of most of your freedom is a big factor. Lots of attitude on part of certain members of the staff when they don't get their way with you, they want you to be a Yes man/woman. There is not a whole lot to do other than play, bingo, watch movies, watch some kind of entertainment, eat, sleep and be up very early in the morning so they can make your bed. Etc.. As for friendship, unfortunately, the largest percentage of the resident population seem to be suffering from varying degrees of dementia. So it's difficult to be friends with someone who doesn't even remember who you were 15 minutes before or after you talked with them. overall, I see it as a place where you go and wait to die while spending every penny, you have to do that.

Our Experience

They were nice people. I didn't like that my mother stayed in the room way too much. A few times they didn't make sure that my mom's portable oxygen machine was recharged. The place was clean and they just did a remodel of the lobby and great room, which is beautiful. The food was good. [Name removed] was very nice.

My review of the Arbors

I would recommend to find somewhere else other than this community. I am not my happiest here and I am looking to move if it is possible and if not I hope that things get better and change here.

Not satisfied with care

We chose The Arbors at Hauppauge because of its location, it was close to my brother and I so we could see her often. Then there was a lock down so we couldn't visit which was an issue. She shared a room with someone else so it was a little tight on space. She was satisfied with the food, but it did become repetitive after a while. I wouldn't trust the management, they have not been very helpful. I would not recommend, I believe they were understaffed on the weekends.

Difficult communication

We are not getting good communication from the property. My mom is stuck in her room all day due to the quarantine, it is really hard on her. In normal times it was fine, there were things to do. I wish they would be better at communicating to us family members what is going on and letting us know if residents there have Covid-19.

Disappointing Experience

I was not impressed with our experience in this community. I feel there is much room for improvements around this community. The staff needs improvement, an many other areas. I was disappointed with our experience in this community.

Not Impressed!!

I was overall not impressed with this particular community at all. It is kept clean, however the building complex was awkward and not in the best shape. It also felt very cramped and had narrow hallways.

you really have to speak up and advocate for yourself,

It's clean and the people are friendly. They are receptive if you bring things up, and try to fix the problems. It's an older building and the roof leaks, They have tried to fix it but it still leaks. It's difficult to get what you want in the dining room, you really have to speak up and advocate for yourself, and the workers in the kitchen have a bad attitude. We chose it because it was less expensive than others and had an all inclusive charge. Make sure your loved one can speak up and advocate for themselves, before choosing this place.

Complaint about Community Fees and 30-day notices.

We are especially disappointed in the charges for Community Fee which is supposed to be used for paying for services and entertainment and the use of lounges. But if you are sick and hospitalized and not able to benefit from these due to your absence then a reduction in the charges should be made proportional to your non use period. The Arbors can also send you to the hospital unnecessarily and delay your reentry because of their strict rules. Bottom line is you are at their mercy and self serving policies. They also turn a deaf ear to requests to be reasonable if it affects them monetarily. You should have an ombudsman as your advocate because there is no control over certain matters and procedures. I could also complain about 30-day policies. They won't accept your requests to remove a resident unless you give a 30-day notice. This could be an imprisonment to the individual who needs to get out but will forfeit a deposit. Management is deaf to a lot of things. Beware!

Not pleased

My mother passed away, but as far as the arbors is concerned, quite honestly she never made it there and they did nothing about the money we were charged, i'm not happy at all. She never amde it there because her condition had worsened and they re evaluated and said she was no longer a good candidate, which I completely understood but she never had any of the services they provided, no meals, nothing, I thought there should be some compensation made. I want it all behind me now, I said something to them initially but they just didn't care. We liked the place initially, we liked the people, but we had no real experience with them until they said she wasn't a good candidate.

The Arbors At Westbury

The community was kept clean and the staff was friendly. In the beginning, the care was good but towards the end of my brother's stay, they were not good with accurately communicating his health situation to us. Because of the community lock down as the result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we were not able to visit him. My brother was happy here while he was well and we were happy with their services.

Wellness staff made several mistakes. Executive Director does not respond to telephone calls and often has other staff members to address issues. My Mother ran out of medications so many times. High turn over rate of the staff. Please pick another community for your loved one.

Poor care, don't put your relative here.

Mom moved into Arbors East at Islandia memory care about year ago. DO NOT BELIEVE the sales, the advertising, and the promises from staff. When you check out the place, they will promise great, attentive, caring environment for your relative. In reality, the place is simply a roof over your head and a few meals a day. The care there leaves ALOT to be desired. Only about half of what Mom needs and was promised gets done on a daily and weekly basis. Staff do not communicate with each other. When raising concerns, we were even told that "we have too many residents to deal with, we don' have time for your concerns". The management at Islandia East is either inept or just simply don't care. A few of the individual caregivers are great, but some are terrible - cold, do not assist in dressing, even vaping in the rooms of resident. If the owner of the Arbors [name removed] would like to contact me, please do so and I am glad to share our concerns in attempt to help you improve operations.
