It's clean and recently renovated. They have attentive staff. I would recommend them to others who are searching for a place for their loved one.

A Place for Mom has scored Arcadia Management with 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 69 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Arcadia Management has 516 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.2 out of 5.
We have had a couple of issues, the number 1 issue is that the employees are not coming into my parents room as often as the care plan says because my dad has 24/7 care coming in. My father is diabetic and they keep offering him foods that are not on his diet. He is supposed to get his levels checked 4 times a day and given insulin shots, in the last week they have failed to check 4 different times. They say everything you want to hear, but the follow through is not always there. I would recommend the assisted living side, but not memory care at this time.

The staff at this community were very helpful with determining which community would work best for my loved one. This community did not seem to offer the amount of staffing needed to care for my loved one. This was a nice community and I would recommend taking a look at it.

My mother has been there 2 weeks and it is a period of adjustment for her. The staff is friendly and attended. She is very satisfied with the food and her room. Make sure you know what your are signing. We had to put a deposit on an apartment that she did not go into 15 days into the month plus pay the whole months rent with no prorate.

I don't have any real issues. My mother is in transition program. There is an awful lot of time where the residents are just sitting on the couch. When I see people sitting in those couches they are generally falling asleep. I would like to see more interaction between the staff and the residents. The cleanliness of the facility is excellent. Everyone is very friendly and nice. Everything else seems to be going good.

The arbors at Hauppauge is very warm and cozy and the décor is well appointed. The staff are GREAT, especially, Melissa, Nancy & Dana. They really develop a relationship wit the resident and the family and do a great job engaging both the resident & the family. My biggest challenge with the Arbors is that if your loved one requires more attention that just routine assistance, this is not the place. My mother suffers from moderate dementia & need a lot of cuing, reminders and direction. Although we were told in the beginning that she might need too much assistance but they would be willing to give it a try, after about 2 weeks week, we were told that we would need to find another community for her. My mother really couldn't understand why they were making her move & now we needed to begin the search for another community that was affordable and would be willing to take a resident with moderate dementia. It was challenging to say the least & trying to explain it to my mother was more of a challenge. What really annoyed me & turned me off was that the Executive Director not once spoke with us or my mother but left it up to his staff to explain, knowing that we had a challenging situation. Even the day of the move out when my mom was saying her goodbyes to the staff, who all loved her, the Executive Director was in the lobby, saw us but never acknowledged us or spoke with us. Only when my husband called to complain, did I receive a phone call from the Executive Director. In addition, In lieu of the circumstances, I think we should have received an entire refund of the $3000 community fee, rather than 1/3 ( she ended staying 2 months before we were able to find another community). If they are not able to handle residents with dementia, they should state that in the beginning and not accept them as residents.

This place looked fine, although it was not one of the best that we looked at when we were touring. It looked nice enough and everyone seemed friendly. However, there would have been difficulties with my loved one's motorized scooter, and it was also a bit too far away from family to be convenient.

They had a lot of activities. They all seem very nice. They have a cocktail hour there. The people who we sat down with were really really nice, and bubbly, energetic and eager to get our business. They were on a busy corner and the residents are free to come and go as they please.

My mother's finances could only allow for so much. This is a good value, at this price point. The VA benefits adviser was very helpful and we're hoping for that benefit to kick in soon to help pay for her housing. The staff seems attentive and the atmosphere very nice. I like that there is a nurse or PA there at all times. The visiting house doctor is also very good. The place is clean and decently appointed. It does not have that 'funky institutional smell". The bathrooms are always clean and the rooms cleaned regularly and linens changed. The food is the major thing my mom complains about. She says they always serve chicken and macaroni...and everything is bland.

I currently reside at the Arbors of Hauppauge. I have made many friends here. I have been living here 4 months. The staff are great and I have no major complaints at this time. I am happy to have 3 meals a day,and laundry service here. It was really getting hard for me to manage those chores at home. I am very pleased.

Rating would depend on required level of care. Attention paid to a good activity roster. Nice staff, good apartments and terrific food. Excellent value. On the down side, mom quickly advanced with age to need a higher level of care. They have no nursing staff and their wellness setup tended toward haphazard. They lost the case manager soon after our arrival and were struggling to fill the spot, which had one person managing over a hundred elderly residents.

My mom has made wonderful friends there. Quality of the food is mediocre...they've lost quite a bit of her clothing, only some has been returned. She is very happy with the activities & easy access to the outdoors on the premises

There are so many residents in the memory care that it is difficult for the care staff to keep and eye on them--even in general common areas.

They are friendly. But mom has been to the hospital 3 times in less than four months. Thus, I think her care could be better. My aunt noticed that my mom's oxygen was not attached to the tank. I'm starting to think she may need a higher level of care. They seem to have a lot of activities. I don't know how the food is, but my mom is not complaining about it. I am not happy about the room she is in. There are no windows.

In general, the experience is okay if you are very involved with your family member's care and advocate for them. The facility is generally clean, but Mom is in a shared room that often smells of urine and feces when dirty diapers are thrown into wastebaskets. The staff is generally friendly. Care is better when family is involved to point out areas in need of immediate attention such as not checking if diaper is soiled or making sure dentures have had Fixodent put in. The day staff is fine, night staff is less reliable. The activities are good and varied. As for the value for cost, we're very disappointed in the huge increase of 7% after one year. It will not be sustainable long-term for us.

My loved one was previously a resident at The Arbors at Westbury and everything was great for her at first. Everything at this facility was very good. However, she had a fall and they have not accepted my loved one back to the facility. I would say this facility is a good fit and a good option for residents who are still mobile and would recommend it for those who are. Otherwise, I probably would not recommend.

Well she didn't last there very long some of that was due to her stubbornness. She literally couldn't eat the food she hated pretty much everything they had to offer even the other options she said everything was too soft and chewy for like 90-year-olds. I tired a couple things she brought back and it was pretty awful. Also most of the activities looked like a scene from awakenings before the L-dopa treatment. She was hoping for at least some of the younger seniors to be more social and mentally active. Most of the people however were very nice, the staff was very accommodating.

I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The food is not good here. The meats are low cut and quality, they use off brand vegetables that are canned, and the food overall could be improved. The staff communication is good when I have a request or need something. Some of the care available is medication management, bathing and dressing assistance.

When I toured I thought they were lovely and they were warm and friendly it seemed like a homey facility. Staff started out super nice but then it went downhill. She took 3 falls when she was here. Every time I went to visit she was in the same exact clothes since the last time I was there. I emailed them about this issue and I never got any type of response. When I called to tell them she had passed they talked about billing and were very insensitive. I was disappointed and dissatisfied with their services.

Make sure that your loved one is able to care for themselves enough to exist in the community. We researched it and thought it would be okay. But my mom needed a little more attention than they were able to provide, which was quite a problem for me. They did not handle my mom well. I don't think that they evaluated her properly. The people who lived at Arbors were a little more advanced than she was. She needed more care, which they did not have the staff or ability to provide. It wasn't a bad facility - it just wasn't right for my mom. And I felt like they cared more about getting their rent and getting her in there than their ability to take care of her.
