American House

Mom has lived here for several months now....she is happy with everything except the meals. They are ok somedays...but not so great on others. I have picked up a few "to go" meals in the dining room on my way in to visit and I laugh sometimes....not enough food for a kid let alone an adult. Apparently the food situation was discussed at one of the last meetings for the residents.... but the meals are still pretty mediocre most days. I think if they can fix this one problem...the place will be a really nice place to live.

They are not happy there, but I'm sure they will be moving someplace else. They don't like the location. They don't like the food or the assigned seating. They also don't like the fact that they have to pay for meals.

Our experience with American House has been somewhat mixed. I think the facility itself is very nice, the building is well kept and clean and the apartments are attractive and a nice size. However, I think they are a little short staffed. The response times to the call button necklace can be very slow, we discovered that it's actually faster if my loved one calls me and I call the front desk to ask for someone to help her, which is certainly not ideal. The people they do have are friendly and hard working, they just need a few more people on hand.

The staff is really friendly and they talked me through every step of the process. They take great care of my 97 year old Dad and he really likes them too. The one bedroom apartment is just the right size. And he can have his cat which sealed the deal!

Overall, a good experience. CNAs are amazing and really helpful. Nursing staff is ok--they put the residents off a lot if the situation is not an emergency. The office staff is rude. Very hard to deal with if a problem arises. Rude, belligerent, arrogant, and belittling. The CNAs are top notch. RAs also. They are very caring and easy to deal with if a problem arises. Genuinely good women and men. They do seem to be understaff for unknown reasons. More CNAs would be great. More nurses to deal with the resident requests would be good. The office staff just needs an entirely new attitude. Except Lisa--she is a sweetheart.

Most of the activities are cards and bingo.

I toured this community when I was looking into care options for a loved one. I actually looked at two American House properties, and I was pleased with both of them! This is a nice looking, clean, well kept community, and all the staff I spoke to seemed very friendly and professional. I ended up choosing another option based on proximity to family, but this was somewhere I was considering.

I'll get the bad out of the way first. Residents are allowed to wander the facility, entering other residents rooms and removing personal items at will. Dad's roommate puts his clothes in my Dad's closet and chest. Dad has had clothes missing, a belt, socks, and hankies have all disappeared. I don't like his stuff getting stolen all the time. Now for the good. Staff is friendly with every body. They seem to know all the residents and their families.

We didn't end up choosing this place, but we were impressed on the tour. One aspect that really impressed us was the initial consultation. They really took the time to sit down with my loved one and find out what his interests were, so that they could incorporate them into the activities they offer. That was really impressive to us!

Very nice. It's right downtown Ft. Myers. It's about 80% independent living, but the top floor is all assisted living. They would have everything you need up there, but I think that the fact that it was so big kind of intimidated my in-laws.

Elmcroft of Shallowford is satisfactory in appearance, friendliness, acceptable care of my mother, activities offered. Food sometimes leaves much to be desired! The staff is very caring --from maintenance to the director.

We just thought that the expense was a little bit much for what you got. The value wasn't as good as the other places we were looking at and they offered the same services, like one meal a day.

It's hard to remember 1 facility from the next. It seemed somewhat an older facility with some updates. Clean & adequate. Our family is still touring & comparing offerings of each place. We still need to see more.

The house keepers that do light cleaning aren't the best. Bathroom floor is always sticky. The flooring in the kitchen, and sitting area is done poorly. The washer and dryers are the worst. They need new ones. Also, the kitchen staff keep using the washer and dryers when it's supposed to be for residents only. Also, the facility seems to smell like urine every day.

nothing much for the cost. extremely small rooms I expect more for the cost than this and felt extremely rushed to get through the whole 'tour'.

They were remodeling for the entire time I was there. Food service staff walked out due to their unhappiness of the management. Rent was increase from [Amount Removed] per month to [Amount Removed] with no notice. After leaving management refused to call me back as to my concerns over the return of my deposit. Overall experience was not good. The automatic opening door was most of the time not operating causing it very difficult to exit and enter building.

All is going as well as can be expected. This is a very difficult transition for my parents. The welcoming and orientation was somewhat disorganized and not too thorough. With lots of questions and "figuring it out" they are getting settled.
